He should join the Indian league on a 2 year deal if that's what he is chasing. There's 80+ goals.

Also arrange a few friendlies between Portugal & Gibraltar / San Marino etc. that should get him over the 1000 mark.

Friendlies don't count for official goals do they?

I believe they do if they are played in official FIFA international windows.

EDIT - I can't seem to find an official ruling on it. Research suggests club friendlies are not counted in goal stats but international friendlies are (as long as they are officially sanctioned by FIFA).

Jatz SM you guys heading to this? Sounds like it's going to be sold out.

Doubtful. Have been to several Sydney derby's - they've got a fantastic atmosphere when they're sold out.

The early days of the Wanderers in particular were unreal.

I'm skeptical of the Mata signing being 36 and coming off not playing much at all in the J-League.

Yeah big name but it's hard to see him having much of a playing impact.

It depends on how much work he's put into pre season. Can have an impact if he's motivated to. Hopefully not here for an easy international marquee pay cheque although you could say he would've got a bigger payday in China/Middle Eastern leagues.

6th by end of this season, top 3 by end of next season. I don’t think he can catch Shearer but the others are within reach.

Might catch Lampard and Henry at best, but I think he's off to Saudi at the end of the season.

He’s 32 but playing like he’s 2-3 years younger, and is still one of the best 5-10 players on the planet. He’ll comfortably play into his late 30s and the Saudi money will still be there for him then.

We know he is a competitive animal, and there are still a number of team and individual honours and records there for him to fight for. With those instincts and his form/fitness I’d be amazed if he didn’t sign on with us for another season or 2. Like last time, I’m sure he and his agent will drive a hard bargain and make sure we’re paying him what he’s worth.
