The Philadelphia Experiment - ...And Live With The Consequences

Russell cancelling his workout gave me a bit of pause for a bit, till I read this morning that he did it cause he's sick. Meanwhile Hinkie's out watching Prozingis, and the buzz from that workout is super high. Though him being so adverse to contact makes workouts pretty easy to look good in.

He's a project, but his upside could be tremendous. DX usually have some information when they place picks, so I think there's a bit to Hinkie really liking him at 3. But I think Russell is still probably the front-runner.

The following is a statement from President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Sam Hinkie, regarding center Joel Embiid:

"As part of the conservative approach focused on the long-term health, recovery and care of Joel, we have been closely monitoring his progress, regularly evaluating his status and adjusting our plans accordingly.

"Recently, Joel and Sixers personnel traveled to Los Angeles for a series of routine exams with a number of physicians who have been actively involved throughout this process. During his visit with Dr. Richard Ferkel, a standard CT scan on Joel’s right foot revealed less healing than anticipated at this point.

"Our priority remains providing Joel with every opportunity to ensure he has a long and successful NBA career, and as such, these findings cause us to pause and reassess his current activities. Together with Joel and his representatives, we will continue to consult with the experienced team of doctors who have been an integral part of his evaluations, while also engaging in dialogue with a broader set of experts and specialists.

"Discussions regarding the appropriate next steps are currently ongoing and we will share an update once it becomes available."

Alrighty, so Porzingis and Okafor are in play.

Damn it.

So does 'less healing than anticipated' actually mean that, or does it mean 'he's injured'? Surely they wouldn't have started any workouts without 100% health.

His workout is primarily non-contact, nothing too extensive that would could cause re-injury, just part of the process of getting back to full fitness. He's not in any discomfort. But given that they they thought it would have healed completely by now, they need to pull him out. I hope it doesn't mean surgery, but it might.

I don't think it's as bad as you could make it out to be, but it's certainly not ideal.

As for the draft, drafting Okafor would be a sign that they don't think Embiid has longevity. Prozingis would be fine, because he's a great pairing with Joel but leaves confusion for Nerlens.

Worrying.

At least he has other options if it doesn't work out.

I didn't see this game but I can only imagine how good the play was.

Like I'm loving the theories of Hinkie orchestrating all of this. From the Woj article, to the press release, to the present narrative.

The funny thing is that it's entirely conceivable.

The whole Embiid is a 'legitimate chance' to miss next season entirely, comes from a Keith Pompey article where has attributes it to an unnamed NBA source. Like aside from the Sixers being the most closed off team to the press and anyone outside the organisation, him not naming anyone makes it sound as if it's like a marketing intern from the Kings. And then he goes on to say an Eastern conf. executive says the entire plan is doomed if Embiid doesn't pan out, which is a terrible assumption of what the Sixers are trying to do.

We'll have a real idea when the draft comes and goes (less than 2 weeks!) or when Hinkie speaks, but right now I think Embiid will miss Summer League, but be right by November.

Hope we tank next season and get the number one pick.

No no no no no.

I want Embiid to play, Noel to grow, Russell/Mudiay to have a strong rookie campaign and us to get between 25 and 35 wins. Then we use all the stored up assets we have (LAL, Heat, OKC) along with our own pick to get as high a selection as we can.

New uniform unveiling tomorrow morning!

Never been a huge fan of the red, but adore the heck out of blue and white. Was worried that the stars would make it look too busy, but they've kept it pretty tight. Would have loved to have seen PHILA in red on blue.

3 MORE DAYS.

Not being able to watch the first hour of the draft is going to kill me, but alas.

Who has everyone landed on? Russell seems likely and have come around to him being the one I wants us to draft. Still an unabashed Mudiay fan, but Russell gives us what we need.

Don't see us trading down, but I'm really into the idea of making a play on Hezonja, Winslow or Porzingis if they fall outside top 6.

Saric news sucks, but not anything surprising.

Back and forth on Mudiay and Russell.

Keep coming back to the fact that had it not been for China, we'd be talking about Mudiay as a sure-fire top 3 prospect. Often ranked as the best or at least one after Okafor as the best High School prospect. Didn't get to properly show his wares, but he adapted well against grown men in the limited time he had. Had really nice outings in the playoffs.

Russell will appease the masses and certainly the Hinkie critics. He makes the most sense, but a big part of me really loves Mudiay.

Good to see our first round pick on the court nice and early for a change.

Summer league is summer league but sounds like he did well. Apparently TJ McConnell was good, too.
