The possibility of Essendon innocence: a travesty of justice or conspiracy theory for the ages?

Essendon fans should never, ever let this go. It should come to define the club and its supporters. Never let the flame go out! This is your identity now!

The current position is a Trump-like "They should have stopped us from cheating" as far as I can tell.

and why ASADA updated the status of the illegal supplement on its website the day before EFC self reported (2).
The status wasn't changed, it was always a banned substance.

Previously the website wouldn't find an exact match and said you need to contact ASADA directly. They would then have informed you that it was banned under the generic S2 'Growth Factor' clause. There are emails from a FOI request that confirm ASADA knew back in 2011 that it was banned under this clause even thought it wasn't explicitly listed.

The day before the self reporting it looks like they changed their 'check you substance' tool to say it was banned, eliminating the need to contact ASADA directly. I'm guessing they were anticipating a huge number of searches and phone calls/emails so decided it was best to cut out the middle man and make it very clear by stating upfront on the search tool that it was banned. If you look at the FOI request it does in fact show many hundreds of searches in the days and weeks after the self reporting.

The whole thing was a crock from go to woe.
The "Blackest Day in Australian Sport" lie was a cash grab by ASADA.
Not one single criminal charge was even recommended, not on single criminal action came from the massive beat up.
Essendon were the "convicted" for, at the very best, a trivial misdemeanour and at worst "solely political reasons.

ASDAA are a cancer on the public purse.
Sack the lot of the puffed up ****wits

Hypothetically, if I was to knock up a batch of "whatever it takes" 2718 in the old bath tub in my garage. Essendon players could inject it because its not on the ASADA banned list?

Is that really the premise of this latest article?
Yes. It was their argument at the time.
And guess what.

They lost them too.

In a country which had its values in order, McDevitt would've been Australian Of The Year.
LOL.
You mean in a police state?

Each to his own. Some people like to have their lives run by moralists and right wing ****wits, obviously, as the Libs won the election thanks to the mindless morons.

I just reckon when you sign up to a competition's anti-cheating rules you shouldn't cheat. Thoughts?

Stephen Dank admitted on 730 to injecting the players with a banned drug.

Yep.This isnt even a new argument. I don't know why they are bothering. It is only opening up old wounds and reminding everyone, oh that's rights Essendon ran a systematic doping regime.

How is this a story?

Surely Essendons behaviour at the time suggested they knew that, at best, they were in a very murky grey area they had been warned to avoid, and at worst were systemically and deliberately breaching the WADA code on a club wide level. You don't source supplements 'creatively', refuse to tell anyone what was actually given, and then shred all of the evidence, if you think its all above board. They (finally) got the deserved punishment, have done their time, and have had to grow through it. The stench will linger for a while still, but it's not going away any quicker if people like Robbo keep brirnging it up.

He took on the establishment when they tried to whitewash it, and won.

You're the one claiming it was a political stunt. What was in it for the lefties who co-ordinated it?

Everyone's favourite SeaKayaker used to go on about how it was all a 'NeoLiberal conspiracy'.

I think with this latest thing they are trying to muddy the waters by making ASADA appear corrupt when they changed their 'check your substance' website tool the day before the Bombers self reported. It's quite easy to suck the average punter in with stories like this. In reality all ASADA were doing was making it easier to find out it was banned. Before you had to contact them directly to find out it was banned, with the website update it meant you could find out straight away on your screen.

I'm pretty sure this isn't new though. They made the same argument at the time. i vaguely remember people using 'the wayback machine' internet archive checker to see when ASADA changed their website.

I am so sick of the attitude in Australia that foreign drug cheats should be banned for life, circumstantial evidence is more than enough, etc. but when it comes to Australians, hey, they were just kids and made a mistake. Get real. ASADA and WADA did us all a favour, weeding out people like Dank injecting dangerous stuff into young men for what? To win a football game? Disgusting.

So why would ASADA update on it’s banned list a few years after WADA? A day before we reported and months/year after using it?

McDevitt said athletes should check banned list on ASADA site. You really think athletes say “oh it’s not on ASADA banned list but maybe let me check the SO category”?
So are we now saying that we did take TB4 - but we didn't know it was banned?

They found a team systemically doping their players in a national sport. Pretty sure it'd be near the top of the list as far as sporting scandals go. The ball-tampering stuff with cricket didn't happen until later... so what would you qualify as the "blackest day" in Australian sport then?
