FIGJAM takes the points here I think. Anyway, another 50 to 100mm coming for some flooded areas this week, could be getting a lot worse for some areas. Get up to Dartmouth for a look if you have a weekend spare. Absolutely spectacular!

'Act of God' is a legal term for insurers for extraordinary events.Act of god?
Are you also into the blood of Christ to protect you from covid?
It's more than one horse race though, it's hundreds of horse races, concerts, events, etc every year. Protecting infrastructure that has such high use makes sense.they stopped a flood plain from flooding so that the grass could be dry for a horse race
the fallout of this is flooding a lot of homes and businesses that otherwise would have been fine
think its fair that people complain given that
we've got ministers with racing as a portfolio, there is a lot of money involved in keeping the gambling industry happyIt's more than one horse race though, it's hundreds of horse races, concerts, events, etc every year. Protecting infrastructure that has such high use makes sense.
Your second point - is this a proven fact yet or speculation?
The infrastructure was approved at the time - you could argue that there may have been pressure or even undue influence on "waving it through" at the time, but I haven't heard enough reporting on this. as yet.

amazing how many people are cool with peoples houses being flooded to protect some turf though
you can guarantee that the water that would have ended up on the track ended up somewhere else instead, given the only other place it can go is to surrounding land, some of the water damage from the flooding has to be from that wall, its really just a question of how much
plenty of people seem to be more worried about flemington thoughDon't think anyone is cool with houses being flooded.
its a ****ing grass track that makes money off gambling, if the government had to pay for the clean up this decision caused I don' think they'd come out ahead on tax revenueBut protecting a large income earning asset makes sense. Indeed the additional tax collected can go toward better housing infrastructure. Or hospitals or any number of other good things. Not to mention the employment gains.
its a flood plain, the built the track on a flood plain and then decided it shouldn't be a flood plain anymore making all the other properties around it at higher risk, and none of those people got a say in it, they just got lumped to protect the racing and gambling industries profitsThat all needs to be weighed up against the probability and extent of any other damage that could be caused. It is a real discussion worth having. I assume it was had when this was approved but likewise am interested to know how fair and transparent that process was.
Ahh ok why didn't you just say so.its peak capitalism bullshit
