Shepp is going to get slammed tomorrow. Everything that hit Seymour + most of what's hitting Benalla + Castle & Seven Creeks

I think Echuca will get the worst of it. Everything coming from Wang via the Ovens plus Lake Hume/Dartmouth will be there in 3/4 days plus all the above. Then further downstream the Murrumbidgee flows will continue for weeks.

Is that the sole metric you're using? Very narrow minded.
I mean if you're telling someone who has lost their home, better than a drought I think you're being a dick.
But then the original comment wasn't you, you've just picked up the flag and run with it.
Flooding is shit, drought is shit

It's not like they weren't warned. 1974 vs now.

Flooding is s**t, drought is s**t
I wouldn't tell someone who lost their house to a flood that. I know people who had to leave their houses due to drought too. Both are bad, but if you're saying this flood is worse than a drought, which is what I thought you were saying, then I have to say that's fairly outrageous.

It's kind of strange that we are going through bad flooding while on the other side of the world UK is going through drought at this moment. It's like it takes in turns between droughts and floods from one side of the world to the other.

I know our wet years (east coast) coincide with dry years on the other side of the Pacific and vice versa, but not sure the weather patterns of the Atlantic. As sure as the sun comes up, they will be drenched again one day, and we will be dry. Floods, as bad as they are, do serve a purpose in that the aquifer's and water tables fill up again to help us survive the next inevitable drought.

Crazy stuff to alter a natural waterway to protect a racecourse which of course *s everyone else over……

I would have thought that properties are subject to a LSIO (Land Subject to Inundation Overlay) need to be prepared for inundation.

As for "crazy stuff to alter a natural waterway to protect a [insert property here]" would you say the same about the urban drainage system in general? What about the artificial banks along the Yarra in Southbank and Docklands?

It's a one in 50 year flood that's caused this heartache and humans wanting to yell at other humans for it is a peculiar ego-driven condition that is best summed up by this image:

they stopped a flood plain from flooding so that the grass could be dry for a horse race

the fallout of this is flooding a lot of homes and businesses that otherwise would have been fine

think its fair that people complain given that

Nah mate, we will need desal plants everywhere just to survive.

They put in a flood wall to prevent the incursion of water into billions of dollars of assets, just like the way the Yarra's been banked up to prevent incursions.

Ya'd think this is the first time anyone's done anything to the river systems of Melbourne, yet the damn things practically don't look anything like they did when Batman cough "bought" Melbourne! Our harbour wasn't even underwater FFS!!

You like making unprovable claims!

Like how the non-implementation of blanket indoor mask mandates would cause the spread of Covid, despite the fact that it has demonstrably exponentially gone down in every facet with no spikes, in direct correlation with those areas that had blanket indoor mask mandates.

Similarly, this wall might have made a difference in the following range: slim to **** all!

Anyway, this was brought in by Labor's Mary Delahunty, who said:

“Melbourne Water’s modelling confirms that, provided the compensatory works are in place, there is no increase in risks to people and property in the river valley.”

I'd be enquiring what the "compensatory works" are above. Do they have a pump system in place? Avenues of redirection? What if these works actually reduced the height of the flooding?

I obeyed the overkill of our ultra-conservative experts led by Sutton for 2 years during Covid. I think the least you could do is do Melbourne Water a favour and give them the benefit of their expertise.

Oh yeah I forgot you were one of those

Just highlighting how disproportionate your responses are to a number of issues, pal.

Always wanting to blame others for ‘acts of God’. Says a lot about you to be honest!
Act of god?
Are you also into the blood of Christ to protect you from covid?
Last I checked it was people that approved and built the wall.
