Yes, BUT --- and this might be his biggest failure and reason for him to go --- why has Pyke not stamped his authority on his own job and at the very least insisted the Club dump Hart and Campo?
I see that as a real failure of Coaching leadership; even worse if he thinks they've done well.

He's part of the problem no doubt. I doubt many of the players would be sorry to see him go, with the exception of the golf group.

I just don't want to see him removed and the same incompetent decision makers tasked with choosing his replacement.

The best part about being wrong or making a mistake is that you learn something if you are corrected.

I learn a lot here.

Yes and as we know that requires a willingness to learn and a willingness to admit that you will make mistakes

One saying I recall often: the sooner I make the first 10 000 mistakes the better

Don't think Fagan has the Kahuna's.
You're thinking "Big Kahuna Burger" from PULP FICTION :) , or maybe a big wave in surfing slang.
"Kahuna" is the Hawaiian word for 'wise man' or 'shaman' and has been adapted in English to mean boss/leader/chief.
The word you're looking for is the Spanish "cojones" (coh-hoan-ez), which is slang for 'balls' (courage).

Gotta say, they do sound alike. ;)
In one sense, the Club has not appointed enough Kahunas with the cojones to make the Crows a stronger side.

I’m a communication consultant. Amongst other things I work with organisations to help them build trusted relationships with their customers and stakeholders

Fagan did his best in that interview but he missed the point of the questions.

As Penberthy tried to point out, he thinks “providing content” is the same as being transparent.

He kept saying “we’re no different to other clubs”, meaning we’re no worse. He should have said “we’re determined to be better than other clubs”

He kept using the term “fan engagement activities”. It’s become a cliche and hides what should really be happening - listening to and talking with fans about what the fans believe are the issues

When they invited him to be a regular on the show like Koch is, he was more worried about how that was an attempt to boost their ratings than he was in the point of doing that, which is to front up to the fans come rain or shine. Completely clueless on that point

I recently gave some feedback to a CEO that they weren’t talking properly with their stakeholders. Talking on the wrong level, not listening, batting away concerns rather than taking them on board. He said to me “Hmm yes..so we need to improve our messaging...”

STOP THINKING ABOUT IT AS FECKING MESSAGING

That’s the Crows PR problem. They are living in a corporate bubble without realizing it

I’ll be emailing Fagan later today outlining this and offering my services for free. Let’s see how he responds

top post.

let us know the response.
(I'd bet they'll see an offer like yours as a threat to be resisted)

Fagan answers “Footy’s based on emotion and passion, when we’re not successful fans get frustrated and disappointed, we share that”
ANDREW YOU CAN’T USE WORDS LIKE EMOTION AND PASSION THEN DESCRIBE WHAT FANS FEEL AS DISAPPOINTMENT
Fans are angry, not disappointed. Disappointment is a corporate “calm” word. We get why you use it, but it doesn’t connect with fans
The answers (and as a result, the solutions) one gets depend on the questions asked.
As you pointed out, Fagan et al are asking the wrong questions, as well as using the wrong language eg I was not 'disappointed' when we lost the 2017 GF, or lost after giving up good leads weeks ago, I felt crushed and angry.

If you get through to him it will be to no avail. What you're saying is making far too much sense.

Malcolm missed the point a bit I felt. In a normal club there would be no need to get external guys in, but we aren't normal.
But his huge knock is the timing of going external..right at the time all the players are on holidays and the reviewers can't be there at training to see things 1st hand

yes, the corporate language is nauseating and bs but it's more than that, it's the attitude. Fagan thinking the packaged videos posted on the website is communicating with the fans is laughable.

When Fagan first arrived he held a couple of forums with supporters. He seemed to be genuinely listening.

The very least the club could do right now is have the two members reps on the Board hold open listening sessions with members. Really, these two should initiate it themselves. Aren't they supposed to be our reps?

I don't think the timing is all that great, but a lot of things can be covered still. They've got video of every training session and every match day, plus vision of the box from every game.

Plus a 5 minute phone call to a player can be done easily enough. Strictly speaking they don't leave for holidays yet.

I agree it is.

Without knowing individual players capabilities and maturity I can't devise a more precise program.

But we did need to expose our first round draftees to more AFL footy.

Seeing Douglas preferred over Gooch this year was a joke. At this stage if his career Gooch should not qualify for SANFL Finals.

You would hope the club has seen enough of the individuals capabilities as they see him train and play every week

Maybe they have formed their opinion of gooch and that he is an average player he may develop more over time but will never be a stand up first 22

We obviously dont have a choice than to back their judgement

But we also dont know their thoughts of him either, I could be off track or 100% correct

This from the guy many of us thought would have been ideal to have been involved in the review

Whilst his sentiment is correct it is not 1999 anymore and players can be in contact with the club anywhere in the world.

Ryan Burton was on holidays overseas when Hawthron told him out of the blue he was to be traded to Port as part of the Wingard trade.

Blighty going hard about external review. Not sure why. He mentioned players are on holidays but are they? Season was still alive a week ago ;) and with SANFL finals I think we have plenty of time to interview players before they head off
they wouldnt be on holiday yet.
saw an article about greenwoodsaying he wants to stay and help in the review and make the AFC better

He has a fair point.

The review will not be able to see any of the day to day workings of the football department they are supposed to review.

Yep, that's absolutely the best way to go about that sort of thing.

good on you mate.
All i can say is i am a keyboard warrior and can offer assistance in bagging the club on social media...My services are free.

Shuttleworth needs to be sent to the glue factory. Our communication is embarrassing and has led to us being the punching bags of the media for the last two years.
Shuttleworth is NOT the policy maker... just the doer. Don’t shoot the messenger.... shoot the ones that sent the message.

In terms of kids playing SANFL/AFL I believe first round draftees should play 50/50 SANFL/AFL in their first year as a minimum.

Then majority AFL games in the second and full time AFL by third.

Of course slightly longer for some KPP and certainly Ruckman. But Fog should play every AFL game next year, his third year.

Later round picks depends on the individual player and their skillset/maturity.

No thanks.
That is embracing mediocrity.
Rozee, Duursma, Lukosius, Sam Walsh all played the majority of the season. In their first year. They did damn well too and they'll only be better for it.
They're already ahead of Fogarty, ROB, Jones and only just behind Jordan Gallucci in games played.

The only approach for first round draftees and any other high-end talent is to get them to 50 AFL games as soon as possible (unless of course they are obviously not up to it).

To be honest with you - THIS is part of the reason they shut up shop. They used to come in and read big footy to get a gauge of things, but somewhere along the track we became a predominantly bitch and whinge session - with the occasional gem such as you are responding to, but it became too hard to sort the wheat from the chaff. I think this is why I get so frustrated in here at times. There are some very good point of views in here but they get buried in the vitriol and vindictiveness of social media keyboard warriors.

15 out of the 78 players drafted played more games than Jones this year
