"The Richmond Way"...

What the hell is this anyway? - We have heard a bit of it from Dimma and the Captain and the leaders this year....

**** we are horrible to watch - simply disgusting!

Even if we had somehow scratched out a win yesterday the 'Richmond Way' of playing is vomit.
We keep hearing that there was just a ten minute period here and a 5 minute period there that costs us games. Denial!
We here that key stats look ok and so it's just a matter of tidying up a few things and that we are not that far off playing good footy... Disillusion!

Well - if we are that close and it's a matter of a few minutes and a tidy up here or there then let's celebrate Tigers because the style of footy we have dished up for the first 6 weeks this year is clearly pretty close to The Richmond Way that we are striving for....

Sadly the reality is we are seeing The Richmond Way every week.
Hard to see any significant improvement without wholesale change...

Massive Sad Face... :(

It's no coincidence that Richmond performed better when Campbell, Leppitsch and Daly were assistant coaches. Replacing them with inexperienced assistants in Bailey, McQualter and Rutten has really effected us. Mark Williams (not Chocco variety) has consistently underperformed, the forward line is an absolute mess. Lade hasn't successfully developed any ruckmen during his tenure, his time spent coaching midfield is pointless because he never played that role whilst better options are out there (Voss, Ratten, Knights). So does all this make Dimma accountable? In my honest opinion the responsibility falls heavily on Gale, Hardwick and Peggy. Gale and Hardwick for being the promotional backbone of our Fighting Tiger Fund, that hasn't been adequently spent on developmental coaches - and Peggy, the president of the club. We are in a real bad way, the off season to 2014 was the most counter productive off season the club has undertaken in this era. We are in a real spot of bother. The Richmond way?? To invest cheaply in the football department and those responsible, are never accountable.

'Wilbur' is hilarious... No idea what he is doing - from the results, very little.
Lade does not inspire either, comes across a gentle giant - don't know if I can see him driving and pushing our midfielders too hard.
Club desperately needs 'winners' - crazy Vossy failed as a head coach but IMO offers a lot as an assistant.

Damien Hardwick: There's three ways to do things: the right way, the wrong way, and the Richmond way!

Jack Riewoldt: Isn't that the wrong way?

Damien Hardwick: Yeah, but faster!

I can't stand it either when Dimma rolls out this 'The Richmond Way' bullshit. For starters I wish someone from the club could articulate exactly what this is as to the casual observer it would seem something like:

- Play an unimaginative, boring & safe brand of football and only release the handbrake when the game is all but lost.

- Start the game with a +1 in defence since conceding the same in our forward line isn't an issue given our awesome forward line set-up and our forwards actually prefer having to lead to the pockets and scoring goals from there.

- Refer to the video tape and stats. Regurgitate these to the long-suffering members who will appreciate the insight ...

- Overload players with information and theory in an attempt to weed out any natural instinct or ability.

- Guard space and corral opposition players. Try not to be accountable for a man or win a tackle count if possible.

- Follow the correct order in moving the ball:

1. Hand pass to a player within 8cm of you; preferably backwards or sideways
2. Kick the ball backwards or sideways over as little distance as possible
3. Run around the back of the player used at either #1 or #2 to receive ball back
4. Repeat #1 or #2. Repeat again
5. Only look inside the corridor or forward as a last resort

- Wait until half-time to make any positional changes. There's too much going on when the game is in motion.

- Make no excuses in press conferences and when everyone falls under the spell, start making excuses like injuries (refer to start of the 2014 season for instructions).

- Eradicate debt and call on the unbelievable generosity of the Tiger Army again so we can:

- Provide a training ground for assistant coaches that want to get into AFL football. No experience necessary.

- Appoint a Football Manager also with no prior experience to oversee our $50m operation.

- Get a Part-Time VFL coach to head up our next generation of stars.

- Find a fitness coach who has a balanced philosophy on high performance management (ie one that ensures the players have not one stand out trait such as speed, endurance or strength).

- Refer to the video tape and stats. Regurgitate these to the long-suffering members who will appreciate the insight ...

- In step with the football dept traineeship & development program, appoint a female lawyer that has migrated from the USA to become our President to appease the split in the board who too have NFI about football.

- Under no circumstances make changes to the football dept like other clubs such as Port Adelaide, Bulldogs, Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle did. We must be seen as stable irrespective of results.

- Refer to the video tape and stats. Regurgitate these to the long-suffering members who will appreciate the insight ...

- Continuously refer to 'The Richmond Way'. Our record of past success will make this easily identifiable.

Best post I've read for years.

Great post. I think a significant portion of the blame should be placed on Hardwick's assistants as much as on himself, and those that have appointed them.

However, I don't think our woes end there like most. Replacing the current coaching regime is only part of the solution. I don't think our list is up to scratch at all and a mini-rebuild is required. This is all pending on how the rest of the season pans out, of course.

Max Power!

He's just mocking us all with words like that. Clearly an agent mastermind that has come in and given us false hope to bring us all down. It's emotional warfare and he's laughing at everyone with his opposition coach friends at brunch time every week, scheming away together.

We can't trust anyone now except knights.

Thats all that can save us now knights in shining armor.

The Richmond way?

Its the one were the most loyal fans in the league get repeatedly ganged r*ped.

Its the one were our rebuild peaks at about the same ladder position as Geelong's bottoming out.

Repeat and start again, but allow 7-10 years per cycle.

Its Predictable, you can almost set your watch to it.

Pretty much sums my response(Tiger Picture).......Difficult to have an informed opinion when there is just so much info that I don't have so I can respond to the thread in a way that I might like.....

Interesting view , hard though to imagine why leppa would be so superior to rutten . I think you might be letting dimma off the hook there ,,,, Ross smith and Mark choco Williams provide plenty of experience and of the balance , all clubs would have guys like them,,,,who are Ross Lyons assistants ? Ken hinkleys ? Not sure the answers will support your contention

What I want to know is that if we such a basket case in 2010, as some would have you believe, why is this season - five years later - shaping as a near carbon-copy of 2012? Shouldn't we be better than we were three years ago?

Supports Rocket's idea that improvement is not Linear ? Which I support....

The thing is that a lot of people ran around telling you we were a rabble when Hardwick took over, yet not long into his time here, we were competitive in a lot of our games in 2012, including knocking over both the eventual Grand Finalists, but ultimately losing more than we won. The same looks like being true this season. This says to me that people exaggerated how bad we were so they could argue Hardwick had improved us. If Hardwick had improved us, in his first two years, we should be improved out of sight a further three years later. But it's just not true. Sadly, I doubt that we have recruited/developed a single match winner in his time.

Not sure what you mean by match winner ? I'm also not sure that Hardwick has made a secret of his wish to develop a strong team first/approach & an across the board contribution by the squad...

Match winner? Um, well, the sort player, like Nathan Brown, like Matthew Richardson, who is so hard to play on that they can turn the course of a game. Many thought Dustin Martin would be that sort of player. Increasingly, though, he's looking like Richard Tambling II.

Disagree with the Dusty/Tambling comparison ...He's got a long way to reach that status...As for your Richos & Brownies well they are a bit like hen's teeth. To me they should be the cream. The full team contribution is the way to go . Not relying on getting one or 2 stars to carry the team & doesn't allow the primaDonna's to hold the club to ransom either. For the record I'd love another Cho, but not many about with that link to our club who would also genuinely love it as well....
