I am delighted so many Wonders got votes.

We all have different opinions and ways of looking at it for sure.
I think it’s time to bring in a POTY that people can nominate and vote in a poll or something like most boards have, seperate the 2. Get the beez away from an emphasis on favourite posters and more to recognising and celebrating contributions and positive achievements around the League. I’ve always voted like that and I thought that’s what it supposed to be for.

Rightly or wrongly - it is not just about your views.

I think the beez combines contribution to the enjoyment of others via match threads, media and actual work. Personally I would have been happy with a quinella of Hate and Baz in either order. The best thing is I believe Baz and Hate are not remotely fussed.

I dont run around sticking my nose and shoving my opinions in every thread, in this case however I feel quite strongly and I’m stating my views and ideas. No one has to agree with them.

I took my votes seriously and provided explanations with my votes
But if others didn’t , that’s their choice
In any case I don’t think anyone can take away from the contributions that the top few have all made to this board. Which to me suggests that the award is measuring what it was set out to (See Below)
And if it’s doing that despite some people not submitting votes, and others actively not taking it seriously that’s still a win
This board is about banter afterall

My approach rewarded the contributors anyway but I can see why people would just vote for people they like. Besides as I mused in my Pm after agonising over my votes- if the contribution has a negative consequence on me or others, is it worth rewarding ?

Of course Hate should have featured more highly. He produced outstanding media and afaik continued to help out heaps of folk looking for numbers and help.

Still I suspect some who voted like the Jabberer would not have a clue about this.

I highly rate him too. We missed out on getting him last offseason .

That said , as great as his media and non match posting contributions were , he posted just 14 times in our match thread the one time we played them and they weren’t 14 outstanding posts either. He was overshadowed by his teammates and that’s more a reflection of his team (I rate the Hawks highly) than him. The ones who were higher on my list contributed widely across the site too, but not at the total expense of match threads

Not sure if it was just a down week or a down season but if it was similar against other teams this season that might explain the finish, because as you say, it’s not just a media award , or a posting award. It’s about contributions. Which is inherently intangible . I‘ve openly downvoted or excluded others like KP in recent seasons for similar reasons and make no apology for that so it’s not about Hate or KP- but about their match thread presence.

FWIW if we are rewarding valuable I think we got it right as a league. Baz truly was the most valuable this season. Between the stats, match thread posting , graphics, other media, committee stuff and now modding - is there anyone who does more across the board other than ND?

Yes yes. That is something I do every two seasons, depending on the will I have to contribute to this godforsaken place.

To be fair they wouldn’t be the only one. I’m a former team mate of Hate and they weren’t someone who instantly come to mind when I was putting my list together, nor are they the only person who contributes behind the scenes to help the league run that deserves to be recognised more than their result.

FootyGuy13 for example. Despite my personal views on them has been on the sim team & been a leader for the Rising Star media all season and yet only got 30 votes.

Is there a better way to highlight the behind the scenes efforts of some of these workhorses across the season? TBH I couldn’t even name all 12 members of the committee until about a month ago.

Edit noted. I also take positive influence into it and effort to improve the place across the board to make it better, be helpful, encourage people to come and stay, improve clubs make them stronger therefore making the League stronger. Etc etc…plenty to take into consideration besides posting and media…I don’t see it as a media award either.

Anyway it’s a good discussion and hopefully some of the wrongs can be righted next season with some more thought put into it. You cant tell people who to vote for but you can set a criteria and ask people to stick to it. If its just a posting award ok then say so If its a Most Valuable award, say so.

The waters get muddied pretty easily though as even two vets in Wosh and myself have two different ideas about what it is and then you throw in 58 other opinions, including those who don't understand and those who don't care.

I guess I take it as face value, Most Valuable Player and I see value in many areas besides posting. Thats not to say I dont take posting into account too, of course I do but its gotta come with other attributes and have some sort of genuine influence.
Probably why I find it hard to get past a top 10.
