Many years ago, I was at a Maccas, and in stormed Blackman and carried on a like a pork chop at the young girls because he was kept waiting in the drivethru...and yes, we all know they can keep us waiting, but the way he carried on made him look like a real a.hole....the customers in the store all were muttering and shaking their heads..

Put me off him forever..

HA. Memories. It's hard to believe that John Blackman and Bruce Mansfield were worth listening to at all, compared to Ross and John, not that i'm a devotee of the latter. I reckon 'Blackers' and Bruce are where they should've been all along: entertaining pensioners after 8pm on 3aw. :p

For the youngins out there, here's another one of my grandpa stories: :p

John Blackman and Bruce Mansfield were a big ratings-winner on 3aw breakfast for several years (the highest rating show

in Aus between '81 and '86, according to Wikipedia), until Blackman took massive cash to go to 3ak in 1986. He bullshitted to his audience, infamously saying that he was leaving 3AW coz it "lost it's soul" after one of the bosses left, but he just wanted the dosh. The 3ak/2ue combo, broadcast in both Melb and Sydney, was a MASSIVE flop, especially in Melbourne, lasting only 6 months!!! Blackman was out of a job, and was soon working for peanuts on 3UZ.

"3AK and Sydney radio station 2UE embarked on a networked talk-back format called CBC where talk programs were broadcast across both stations. The experiment was short lived and a ratings disaster. The John Blackman breakfast program came from the 3AK studios but everything else was transmitted from Sydney."

Yeah, good story, grandpa :D

Remember Derryn Hinch ( he of the human headline ) referred to AW not losing its soul but losing its arseh*le.
After Blackman left.

Peaky isn't as much of a music guru as he thinks he is.Last night, he back announced a track, saying it was a track from Jimi Hendrix's Greatest Hits, that he bought in 1966.Jimi Hendrix released his debut single in Dec 66.
