3AW have recently had Shane Warne, Ponting, Nathan Buckley & Hewitt as guests on their sports show. Generally I think that segment is better than what anything SEN has to offer.

has rodney bogan hogg kept his job at sen

KKK-Hogg reminds me sadly how much I miss Hooksey. David Hooks was so funny and although prone to foot in mouth moments, never as offensive or irritating as Hogg.

Hogg's ratbag right-wing political views have been well known, u should never discuss politics on a sports show, which Hooksey never did, but that moron Hogg often does, its not just that vile tweet that makes Hogg such a distasteful human being, its his whole attitude. Hooksey was fun to listen to and had a great sense of humour, Hogg is just a pompous bore.

I heard Rodney on saturday. I also heard he made a racist slur but actually couldn't have cared less to bother looking up what he tweeted. Off of this, I've looked up the tweet and all I can say is LOL! How could he have not known that wouldn't have been "misinterpreted"? Something as blatant as that! Wasn't even mildly subtle. Aussie humour? BS! Calling them "curry munchers", yeah, ok. "Allah is s***"? Come off it you goose! Don't you run things through SEN or Crocmedia? Don't they look after you?:eek::eek:

Mind you, the typical response from those representing the offended is also boring and somewhat ineffective. They should've said "Rodney Hogg is a classic example of an 'expert' who, if they make enough crazy comments, eventually will get something right" or "I/we would be offended, but remember, this d******* was part of SBS's coverage of the Ashes in '09 (SBS, hey?). Every time they crossed to him for analysis/predictions of the upcoming days play, he managed to analyse/predict everything incorrectly!" That's what I remember of the coverage, every single day/thing!

Speaking of people talking s***, did any of you hear KB's first hour with Pat Smith this morning? Man, that was painful! As a result, I was even looking forward to switching over and listening to Gerard Whateley and John Faine! What were they on about? Mens Grand slams played over three sets? If men and womens finals are played over three sets, should they be paid the same? Mens finals over three sets to be paid a certain amount, more for four and even more for 5?

Huh, what? I wonder, sometimes, when KB and Pat c*** on like this, whether or not they bore themselves s***less as much as the listeners? I reckon, if all of the SEN thread regulars were cobbled together (heaven forbid!), at the last possible moment, to c*** on about sport for the hour, we would've been infinitely more entertaining and insightful!

Yes KB had lost the plot this morning, on his theory six ball overs will be cut back to three.
I don't really care what Hogg said, most aussies would say the same. Too many do gooders these days

i love hoggy on SEN, good value.

the only time i thought he was a goose was when he said journalist andrew wu should go write about ping pong and not cricket.

would he have said it if it were an englishman?

leave the racist bullshit to MTR

Yeah, they do say that Australia is probably the most racist western country in the world.

Hmm, same building and Sam Newman leaving. There's a spot there at 9am mon-fri?

Yeah, they do say that Australia is probably the most racist western country in the world.
Surely not. Who says that? Is it those Gooks? Wogs maybe? Negros? Gypsies? Those ****y Europeans?...lol!

What exactly did Hoggy say ?

Also Patrick Smith this morning , what an absolute twat not only did he backtrack on his Black Caviar doesn't bring people to the races quote he also came up with this ridiculous analogy when a caller questioned the woman being paid equally in grand slam tennis.

The man is such a shit sports commentator and I think a shit human being !

Like Hoggy as a rule.
He is prone to silly blokey 70's humor .
More importantly what's Wayne's SMS count?

Yep good interview but Maher came very close to spoiling it by peppering the interview with constant Maherisms.

I might be a bit invested but how after watching Once Brothers they could confuse Serbia and Croatia is incredible - Boza is a Cro boys!

Dr Turf this morning was sensational, he didn't leave anyone out.
Matt Thompson tried to put Heath Scotland down, Harf put him in his place and so did every caller after that, how do they put up with this goose.

Agree with you there Bedford.
Sport 927, TVN executives, John Alexander, Horse racing coverage.
Turfie didn't miss anyone.
Loved his comment on Bartlett going to bed during the Australian open to save electricity.:p

Turfology 2012
Once again, while Putz Smith continues to display his straight-laced comedy routine camouflaged as serious content, and the decent Steve Salisbury’s still around the airwaves, Dr. Turf displayed why he is the best thing on SEN radio.

While KB’s Tuesday hour with the Doc is predicated on Turfy being quirky and antagonistic towards all and sundry, as usual it’s KB that continually prods, pricks, and presses Turfy endlessly. After the first break KB begins the rib digging:

KB: [rapid speech] Ah, I tell you what I’m looking forward to; I’m looking forward to, on Friday night, now that you’re back because I always love tuning in to TVN to see yaself and Jason Richardson and Terry Bailey and I love the banter between the three of you in between the races at Mooney Valley. It’s an absolute winner, and I tuned in last week and of course you weren’t there. But now that you’re back from Japan I’m looking forward to it. That’s one of my highlights and I’m glad you’re back ‘cause now I can tune in and really enjoy that banter.
Doc: You’re the same as me. I watched it on Friday night as well, Kevin.

KB: [feigning surprise] What, from Japan!?
Doc: No, from my lounge room.
[Silent pause]

KB: What, why, why when you were back in Australia, what, what ya had jet lag and couldn’t turn up?
Doc: I’m not doing TVN anymore, O.K.? Friday Night.

KB: What, you’re kidding?
Doc: Nah, I’ve pulled the pin.

KB: Again!?
Doc: Whatya mean, again!? It’s the first time I’ve pulled the pin.

KB: Every organisation you’ve worked for you’ve pulled the pin
Doc: No, no, I’m just not doing it anymore, Kevin.

KB: [feigning surprise again] Ohhhh.
Doc: I’ve had enough really. Had enough. Let me say I love working with Terry Bailey and Jason Richardson; good blokes and great to work with. No issue-

KB: So it was money? It was money. Came down to money? Need the money? Need more money?
[With buttons pushed by KB – Turfy goes off]

Doc: Money? No. You can only work for so long, for, probably the most incompetent management I’ve worked with in the media, Kevin. Um, I mean that. They are – it is a sheltered workshop. You can point your finger at the management, but really, they answer to a board. And if the board signs off on those peanuts; 927 is the same, I mean this, part of the issue with racing in this state and this country, Kevin. You’ve got these media outlets that don’t know what they’re doing. You’ve got boards that should hand their director’s fees back for allowing; you know, 927 has haemorrhaged millions of dollars over the past few years. And the board sat there and signed off on it every year. They’re incompetent too. It’s run by Harold Mitchell, the superstar, Harold Mitchell. It is a sheltered workshop, Kevin. Let’s move on.

KB: [feigning shock] Doc! You’re teeing off on everyone.
Doc: I’m told they’re gunning for Harold Mitchell … so there you go.

KB: Gee, a lot of information coming out from you this morning, Doc. A lot of information.
Doc: Let’s move on!

[With the banter spiced up nicely, KB’s not moving on anywhere]
KB: I just mentioned I wanted to see you on Friday night and you’ve put the ball on the tee and gone whack!
Doc: ‘Cause you asked me. Anyway, good luck to ‘em. Good luck to Bails and Richo, they need a lot of help there.

KB: Oh gee. You’ve just abandoned those two.
Doc: Well you try, Kevin. You try and entertain and do your job and so forth and you get absolutely no help at all from management, either on a technical level or other levels. So what’s the point? Why try?

KB: Ah well, just ya mates, that’s all. You’ve left them in the trenches, that’s all.
Doc: I was in the trenches with them for four years, Kevin. You know what we got assistance form management? A couple of old buttons and a straw hat. Move on!

KB: Gee, ya getting, you’re starting to abuse me now too, Johnny. … Gee, there’s a lot of bad blood there.
Doc: There’s no bad blood there, Kevin.

KB: I’ll have to talk to Richo about this. … Whoa, I’m having my ears pinned back.

Ranting 101:
I want to mention the other sports that have been on the telly over the summer months, Kevin. I just thought the coverage of the cricket by Channel Nine was simply outstanding. I just thought the coverage, the camera work, the commentary team, particularly with James Brayshaw joining the team in the last couple of years has really added something to it. Really entertaining and just a really polished and quality presentation I thought by Channel Nine over their summer of cricket. As was Channel Seven’s with the tennis, Kevin. … But obviously the addition of Lleyton Hewitt was a masterstroke and just reminded us all of those ten or twelve years we had to put up with that pain John Alexander who just sucked every bit of excitement and entertainment out of any tennis game he commentated on. How we put up with him for so long; thank God he’s gone into politics, he can bore the nation now, not just tennis fans. But I thought Channel Seven’s coverage was outstanding as well. …

I loved the Big Bash. And again, helped by a terrific commentary team. I thought Fox Sport did a really good job with the Big Bash, Kevin. Interesting that I think other stations and maybe this one as well approached Cricket Australia to maybe cover some of the Big Bash but the ABC, as they normally do, you know, cracked it and refused to let anyone else get involved. And all sorts of threats. The ABC coverage, the two or three times I listened to it on the radio was horrible. Just completely missed the point of what the Big Bash was all about. I thought it was a really dreary coverage by them. So Cricket Australia – stand up to them because it doesn’t do any good to anybody. … All in all I thought it was a tremendous first season.

I tell you what’s disappointed me a bit was Sachin Tendulkar’s demeanour this tour, Kevin. We got nothin’ from him have we? Not a word, not even a wave of the bat. … Poor. He’s been idolised, crowds have been so warm towards him and he’s given the crowds nothin’. Absolutely nothing. Almost the poorest performance of the summer, not only the Indian cricket team but just him alone has given us nothing.
(And thus, Dr. Turf is now clearly a racist)

I’ve tried the new whip out on my kids and it doesn’t have any effect on them whatsoever, Kevin.
-On Putz Smith’s claim that kids will be put off racing if Black Caviar is struck with a whip

They could do what they do here in Australia; have a competition amongst the ski slopes in Australia where they try and see who can extract the most amount of money from each patron. Mt Buller’s probably got that nailed.
-On some X Games being events more than actual sports

The effigy salesmen are going to be rubbing their hands. They’re going to have a monstrous February.
-On how the failed Indian cricket team will be received upon returning home

Kevin, they’d be lucky to get a shopping voucher if you ask me.
-On women’s tennis players getting equal prize money

You turned it off to save electricity, no doubt. You wanted to watch it but you thought, “hang on, this is another two bob on electricity here with the lights and TV going on.”
-On KB not watching the men’s final through to the end.
