Yeah but he had 1 win from 3 MC starts. He got weighted out of it for his last start but 3 from 3 for Makybe Diva is very impressive.

If he races this way in the Mackinnon and kills them, then he will be halfway over the line. But of most interest I suppose will be how hard he is hitting the line Saturday rather than how far in front he is.

I reckon every second year the BMW field has about one decent horse and a bunch of plodders.

Where's this BMW talk come from anyway, I was talking about the Cox Plate.

But yes, it depends on the year in the BMW, some year's it as good as the CP, other year's it's terrible.

Next year will depend on whether SYT goes to Sydney.

Sunline??? We are talking about the best ever here mate, Sunline wouldn't blow wind up Makybe Diva's ass. It is not even the best mare there ever was, let alone the best horse.

Very debatable which was the better horse.

Makybe Diva is more revered than Sunline because of her 3 Melbourne Cups, but Sunline had a better strike rate and won more group 1's.

Were the Cox Plate more highly regarded than the Melbourne Cup, then Sunline would come out on top.

Had they raced anything under 2100m, their times suggest Sunline would likely have smoked the Diva. Another few hundred metres, who knows. Beyond that, Diva would win.

Also, it's not really measurable, but Diva never had the invincible aura that surrounded Sunline.

I'd rank it is Sydney's most important race, as far as judging the best horses of all time. It's the Autumn WFA championship in my eyes (Australian Cup is a joke now).

Likewise for the Diva? Most of the horses that ran placings behind her in the cups were trash.

He just destroyed a Melbourne Cup winner, a Caulfield Cup winner and an AJC Derby Winner FFS!

Most veteran racegoers would say this has been a vintage year for racehorses - they certainly havent been ordinary.

Whobegotyou is as good as Kav has got it in his career, More Joyous is IMO one of the best mares we've seen the past decade as is Typhoon Tracy. Predatory Pricer can beat anything on its day and Shocking is a superior stayer capable at WFA.

SYT has not only been beating them, he has been giving them a touch up by 3 lengths or more most times.

I don't know what you want him to do - win by 10 lengths instead of 5 !!!!

Sunline was a champion mare I'll give you that but you have to weigh those 28 black type victories against the fact that a hell of a lot of them were in mares races or back in NZ.

She got found out a bit a few times in open company something which the Diva or SYT have never been found wanting in.

PS : I've always said that the best two horses I've seen in the past 25 years were Rubitoon and Might and Power. Rubiton because of the sheer quality it beat consistently and brilliantly and Might and Power just for how awesome its wins were. SYT has now gone past these two now IMO as it is combining the best qualities of both these champions.

What did Makybe Diva ever beat?

The 2003 Melbourne Cup field was possibly the weakest ever, 2004 and 2005 had no other stayers at the top of their game.

Makybe Diva couldn't even beat Elvstroem most of the time.

Mate I'm 37 years old, seen Sunline, Northerly, Saintly, Better loosen Up, Super Impose, Bonecrusher etc. So You Think is head and shoulders above them all IMO. A stable employee for Bart Cummings let slip that Bart said it is the greatest horse he has ever had.

The BMW is the JOKE race.
Have a look at the honour rolle from last year - Littorio from Zavite and No Wine No Song. The word "plodders" comes to mind.

Austrlaia Cup has a great history - Vo Rogue, better Loosen Up, Lets Elope, Saintly, Lohnro.

Thats a name call that Sydney WFA racing can only dream of.

May be considered heresy, but I think Sunline's record is exaggerated because it was a horse that was able to handle Moonee valley well than most.

The valley is a very perculiar track. Some very good horses - Lohnoro for isntance - one I rate a great of the modern era - would have won Cox Plates if held at any other track.

I mean Fields of Omagh - good honest horse, but please - a champion? Benefitted from the fact it could handle the Valley.

Have a look at Sunlines record in Melbourne away from MV. Its not that flash.
