Autopsy The Stats Don’t Lie: VicBIAS By The Numbers - An Empirical Analysis

Do you agree there is inherent umpiring bias toward Vic based teams?

  • I barrack for a Vic based team: Yes, always has been, always will be. Suck it up.

  • I barrack for a Vic based team: Yes. It’s a disgrace. I demand a fairer comp.

  • I barrack for a Vic based team: No. It’s a myth. Stats are the work of the devil.

  • I barrack for a non-Vic based team: Lol. Tell me something I don’t know.

  • I barrack for a non-Vic team: I like to cry about anything to do with the AFL because they are just

You've used the Geelong example often enough when it suits your argument.
But I guess we all know that you're dishonest and disingenuous when it comes to your all encompassing sense of entitlement.
What, the Geelong is part of Victoria and is a Victorian club argument?

Yeah well it’s a real winner innit?

Seeing as Geelong is indeed a Vic club.

*shakes head.

2 of those 3 were pre Royal Commission and the 3rd was by less than a kick by the most powerful sporting club in the country. Collingwood, for the most structurally advantaged club in the league are very bad at converting that advantage.

What Royal Commission do you keep banging on about?

It can be. 1990 the competition was far from proffessional. 2007 is around about the time when the sport became fully professional, as in no player on any list needed a second job in order to survive. If you only include the fully professioanl era then somewhere in the mid 2000's is probably the right point to start.
In 2016 there was at least one player in the league I know of who relied on having a second job. So if that is the criteria the professional era started very very recently.

Don't worry. They said the same about Hawthorn when the Hawks had a total -108 free kick differential against them across their four recent flags.
100%. Hawthorn’s probably the only other Victorian club that is in the same boat as us. Apparently receiving umpiring bias without the actual statistics backing it up.

Maybe Essendon and St Kilda too.

It turns out it doesn't actually matter much when you are streaming any of your recent flag finals.

Always makes me feel good anyhow.

We are apparently one of the #VICBIAS beneficiaries without actually reaping the umpiring benefits of #VICBIAS. It’s hilarious to read about it actually.

Some of these supporters may have an aneurysm if their team copped what we copped since 2017.
I’m certain the saints and the dockers would have an aneurism.

3 flags - jesus

2012 Prelim against the Hawks was a complete robbery. We played badly in the 2017 Grand Final, but were never given a chance to anyway - The umpiring in that first half was shocking.

Anytime we get anywhere near a flag the umpiring makes sure we have one arm tied behind our back.
Only way yor team will win another flag is that a non vic side like Freo or GWS are your opponents.

I guess you believe the myth about the 666 rule was to stop Richmond. lol

Nah most people agree with my view it was to nullify ross lyon tactics.

It's strange that the Vic supporters always seem to band together at finals time. You get shit like Essendon supporters going for Richmond, or Carlton fans cheering on the Dogs or Demons.

You won't see an Adelaide supporter barracking for Port, or a West Coast fan supporting Freo.

LOL???

tell me you're from Adelaide without telling me you're from Adelaide.

I’m talking about the free kick count. No one can convince me that Richmond got an on-field ride due to #VICBIAS over the last 6 years. Our free kick differential is too much in the negative for that.

I don’t know what part of Victoria you’ve been, but the people I’ve interacted with mostly go for non-Victorians during finals.

It all depends on how many campaigners the non-Victorian side has tbh.

For this year, I hope GWS win the whole thing. The last teams I want winning from the Victorian sides are Collingwood and Carlton. From the non-Victorian sides, I don’t want Brisbane winning.

I’m kinda neutral if any of St Kilda, Melbourne, Port Adelaide, or Sydney win.

So it’s not just jump on a Victorian side for me. It may be for some, but definitely not for me.

What about the free kick count in the 2017 AFL Grand final? LoL
That Adelaide side lost by bloody 48 points lol. No point talking about the free kick count for any margin above 36 points. Anything between 30 points and 36 points is pushing it, but there are rare cases where umpires could’ve been a factor in the loss.

Don’t accept umpire excuse after a 48-point loss.

Depends where you live in Melbourne but yes parts of it are becoming totally choked by people and traffic.
Yep...I don't venture into the eastern suburbs much these days but the west and north-west are abominable, as is the CBD itself...filthy, homeless everywhere, more and more high-rises creating a soulless, cold, windy overcrowded sh*thole - not the same Melbourne as it used to be.

Exactly. You think we want to put up with smug supporters at work or school or the pub whose team is the finals?

I'm 100% on GWS (love the way they're playing btw) with a soft spot for the Saints (for the hardcore fans that surely deserve to see one flag) but the rest can get stuffed. If Adelaide had got in over GWS, I'd be on them.

The AFL umpires games in its own interest, sometimes those result in Victorian biases, very often it does not. Exhibit A - the umpiring in Carlton v GWS last night. With GWS, the AFL's pet on the line, and Carlton already secured a home final, the AFL umpires made sure that GWS got the run of it through a series of atrociously biased umpiring decisions in favour of the Orange Tsunami. Feel bad for Bulldogs fans...

Considering that no one has ever benefitted from this more than Bulldogs fans I doubt they would be too upset.
