Hello friends and welcome back to here. I've been kicked out of the hammock so I have to look useful, so here I am looking useful.

I'm trying to figure out the off-season player movements, and given there's no dedicated thread to it this season (RIP in pieces dav) I'm knocking one up for my own benefit. It's called the hokey pokey for obvious reasons, but if you're thick it's because in the eponymous song there's things going in and out (and shook all about, but that's for another thread). Let me know if there's anyone I missed and I'll add it in here, and if the local mods want to pin this then you have my blessing. Here goes...

Recruitment clearly isn't my forte. Have tried many times and never, not once has someone said "sure, sign me up!". Pretty much given up at this stage lol.

Sorry to hear that and I know you’d be trying heart and soul porps.

Wosh I agree with almost everything you've said above, and that's despite or more accurately, because I know everything I know
Ultimately, your comments about picking your captain carefully , but also the importance of having fun, ring very true

As a former captain of a struggling and then just middling club, and a long-time LG member/poster- yes recruiting is tough, even for people who are a lot better at it than I am. My (rare) successful recruits were many many months and often many seasons in the making. Rookie recruiting involves cold messaging , numbers and a bit of luck/charm along the way. I'm no natural either.

What isn't so hard though is communicating, being around/present and accepting /asking for the help actually available (because there's always help out there for those who seek it). It all starts with the captain.

My hit ratio went up when I stopped sending prospective posters sample KohPhi vids, even old dogs and can learn new tricks

I did find it amusing that certain posters got defensive but disregarded the original messages you were trying to convey, about having fun but the importance of the captain and picking the right one. At least you now know who your real friends are

I am not your woman for rookies either. I hardly venture outside SFA and song contest!!

It is really hard!

It is hardest when you are a middling team in terms of active posters. Other teams feel it is ok to poach, still not that easy to bring in existing players and rookies are a crapshoot.

I think that Baz and then DenieD have done an amazing job, with Falconista in recent times doing well too, but it is still a battle. We have a great core and a reasonable secondary group of posters who are great when they are bale to post, but dont put in huge numbers, but again this year we are looking hard to add some new people to get the numbers where they should be and what not.

You guys have a stable core with several strong posters which is the most important thing. (Especially if you're a recruit you want to know the guys recruiting you aren't going anywhere).

One thing I'd say the Gumbies could improve is their collective identity, that's obviously quite an ambiguous 'thing', but from my perspective it's something you could work on.
