Seriously? We played for sheep stations when I was a kid , none of this every kid gets a star

No, they were invented by Boomer generation in the 90s/early 2000s. They started handing participation trophies out when I was little because boomer parents could not handle seeing their kids not winning anything. Some of the younger generation of parents are not much better.

We hated participation trophies, yet get blamed for their existence.

Have never seen any kid actually enjoy getting a reward for participation.

If your generation hated them, why didn't they give them back or at the very least not continued to give them out to the next generation?

Gen Y is the first generation without counter culture music and without a rebellion against the last generation.

Seems like any negativity got channeled elsewhere. No wonder craft beer tastes so bad.

1. Because its kinda a rude thing to do when someones giving you something, especially if you’re young. I don’t like every birthday/ Christmas present I ever got, but I accepted them and said thank you
2. Idk, not a parent or a youth coach, not my problem.

I also find it amusing people are so against participation trophies, yet are fine with kids presenting medals at the grand final. Imo that is way worse than participation trophies.

Never understood removing scoring, isn’t keeping scoring the best way to teach kids its ok to not always win?

Kids keep scores themselves anyway, they aren’t stupid.
Some are (any wearing a blooze jumper)
