1 week till I head off. Booked with BA so have been stressed the last few days because of the potential strike but have been transferred to a QANTAS flight so all is good now. No wonder I ****ing hate Poms. Can always count on QANTAS though, quality airline - one of the best in the world.

Any more tips/stories to share?

I would love to do a road trip around Australia, haven't had the time. Have drive to Queensland a few times, twice along the coast which is gorgeous.

Have packed plenty of thermals....I am well prepared for the weather that awaits me.

England (London)
Spain (Madrid, Barcelona)
Italy (Rome, Venice, Bologna, Florence, Turin)
France (Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nice)
Germany (Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich)
Czech Republic (Prague)
Austria (Vienna)
Hungary (Budapest)
Romania (Bucharest and Transylvania)
Portugal (Lisbon and possibly Porto)

Pretty much city-hopping from place to place to get a feel for a bit of everywhere. Then on future trips I can refine my travels according to where I liked/didn't like.

Plenty of countries, cities, sights to see and sporting events. Leaving on Thursday so getting pretty excited :thumbsu:

Any tips that you (or anyone else) have to share on those places would be greatly appreciated.

The holiday period is fast approaching for most, and for many it is already upon us. Is anyone planning a big trip? Let's get this thread back up and running - some outstanding insight into various places around the world. :thumbsu:

Plenty of people that post on this board are well traveled and it is fascinating to hear their insights. I'm also happy to answer any questions on any of the places I have been to :thumbsu:

Just had a browse through this thread and it seems like youve travelled to a few places Jeremias. How was your last trip?

I havnt been to Europe before but plan to some day, just got other places I want to see first.

From October last year to the end of Feb this year this year I back packed through South East Asian with my misses.

Started with 5 weeks in India- Really cant put into words how much of an amazing place India is... the people are so helpful and friendly and the county has just so many things to see... huge country and you could easily stay 6 months there and not see everything. Incredible, ive got no other word to describe it.

My missus family runs an childrens home in Sri Lanka so we went over there for 3 weeks after India and spent xmas with the kids and about a week back packing around. Sri Lanka is probably the most beautiful country I have been to.

Then did just over two months back packing through Thailand (been to Thailand a few times with my mates before), Cambodia and Vietnam.

How did you find Vietnam Jeremias?

Im heading back to Sri Lanka with the missez to help out at her familys childrens home again for a couple of weeks over new years.

Any more travels planned for yourself?

Wasn't a huge fan of Italy personally, which was disappointing considering how much i was looking forward to it.

Paris on the other hand i wasn't particularly looking forward to and its pretty amazing really. Most epic city i've ever been to. Everywhere you look is something of interest and you could easily spend a month exploring. Museums are amazing of course too.

Freiburg i've not been to but i've visited Aachen, Stuttgart, Dresden, Munich and my favourite BY FAR, Berlin. So so much history, so diverse, so relaxed, amazing museum island and one of the best places to party in europe if you're so inclined. One city very Melbourne like in a few ways, and one i could easily see myself living in someday. Must visit city IMO.

Haven't been to Lucerne for longer than an hour, but Switzerland is pretty great, if not a ripoff. Lots of things there are a rip off, but in saying that, some things are also quite cheap. Mainly food and whatnot are the killers.

I've been to Paris about 10 years ago... it was a good weekend. I honestly prefer Germany and Switzerland as I found a fair few of the people in Paris to be rather rude and obnoxious (really bad experience with a hotel manager there) but on the whole it was a great look around.

The Eiffel tower is damned pricey to get right up to the top.

Like Sub, I have spent time in Stuttgart, Munich, Regensburg and Nuremburg. From Munich you can do day trips to the Eagles Nest tea house (Hitler's tea house in the German Alps at Berechtesgaden) and Salzburg in Austria.

I havent stayed in Lucerne but I have visited there. It's a nice little city... not a real lot to do there, but there are some great sights... one of which is the old bridge (the Kapellbrucke... rebuilt after a massive fire a few years back) and the old city walls (open in certain areas to walk across)... but I would check to ensure that you are actually going to Lucerne rather than Lausanne (unlike myself and my mum a few years back... jumped on the train to Lausanne and had to get off along the way and take a different train... whoops).

If you are going to Freiburg, then you also have to visit Mulhouse and Basel... I've called briefly into Basel on my way to Zurich.

If you are spending much time in Switzerland/Germany, you really have to visit the Rheinfall... possibly one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Europe.

PM me with your dates and I will see if I can organise a meet up somewhere over there :D

Yeh soak up Paris .. gorgeous city, museums, galleries, turn a corner something new.

Also loved Italy haven;t been to Cinque Terre, but would love, I did the amalfi coast, stunning...I loved the trains through Italy, well Europe for that matter, a feel of what is really going on.

Have to agree on Berlin, so much to see and explore, great arty free wheeling vibe, I was there in the late 90's .... have a bit of fascination with Eastern side of Europe,

Love experiencing new .. draw the line on base jumping :)

Happy travels y'all

ps: For those not travelled to Europe, watch for pick pockets, consider stand alone debit cards, ie: Travelex, or set up a separate account at your bank, scan your passport and email it to yourself prior departure it can be handy, don;t over pack
