Well, with The General calling it quits and 7 weeks to go, I didn;t think their would be too much angst if I started a list management thread. Had a look and couldn't find another.

At this stage:

Hodge - retired
Surman - quit
Fitzy - will surely give it away due to his concussions

I think Burgers will stay on and the club may ask Gibbo and Whitey to pull the pin.

That would make three off the main list already and two off the rookie list.

Maybe they will upgrade Cousins.

Not sure what they will do with Miles or Willsmore... I'd probably offer Willsmore one mroe year and Miles a spot on the rookie list, if that is still around...

Mitchell Lewis seems to have done enough to get another year.

Where to with gibbo? Obviously a champion and deserves a farewell send off game with hodge. Burning Question let him play the rest of the year when he ready and fit or give him 1 send off game when he annouces he retirement. If we play him the rest of the year it will mean hearthley or brand will make way..
Call me crazy but our defence looks better without gibbo n frawley atm.
I would imagine next year frawley full back and one of heathlery or brand fighting for chb. Depending on off season signings.

I say don't give him a send off game. We're still going for finals here and as long as our defence continues playing the way it is then he shouldn't get a game unless an injury or 2 happens.

I know he's a legend of the club but if he truly is a legend then he will want us to do whats best for the club. No matter how great he is. No individual is greater than the club at any time or circumstance

Lewis, Hanrahan and Morrison have automatic 2 year deals

O'Brien, Sicily, O'Rourke, Hartung, Lovell, Heatherley and Willsmore are all out of contract at seasons end. The club should re-sign O'Brien, Sicily and Heatherley to long term deals.

Schoenmakers and Duryea might both leave as unrestricted free agents

Henderson has done more than enough to suggest he's worth another year or two beyond this year given the amount of senior players likely to retire

Glass: likely be elevated to the senior list at the end of the year
Nash: likely to be retained on the rookie list for another year
Cousins: likely be elevated onto the senior list at the end of the year
Fitzpatrick: will retire due to ongoing concussions

at this stage i would guess that...

out: Hodge (ret), Gibson (ret/trade), Willsmore (delisted)

with Whitecross and O'Rourke facing some serious scrutiny as to their future and Hartung possibly trade bait.

Whitecross is contracted for next year

I love this time of year, especially when we aren't likely to play finals.
i love seeing a young kid start their journey and wondering what they might be in 4 or 5 years time.
Just as General Hodge did all those years ago.
The King is dead......long live the King.

Outs
Hodge (ret)
Gibbo (ret) - it's time.........
Willsmore (delist) - not enough tricks.
WhiteX (delist) - handy depth but not part of future plans
Fitzy (ret) - concussion
Surman (ret) - will be on the Adelaide or Port Adelaide list in a couple of years time

Tradable: Poppy - form tapered off late last year and has been average at best this year.
There will be a host of others that are considered tradable if we need to get back into the draft.

I am not sold on Lovell, at least not as much as others on here. I would not be surprised to see him delisted, if not this year then next.

Rookie upgrade - Cousins
Glass can spend another year on the rookie list as far as I am aware.

Yea excatly fair point will have to see the ladder position in a months time.

Just touch on that if we can win 2 of the next 3 somehow the hardest this wk vs cats, freo in wa, swans at the g.
The last 4 are very winnable tigers blues (without cripps) north, bulldogs intresting

I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of action this year. I cannot in any way predict it

But in terms of retirees I reckon Burgers, Hodge and Gibbo will all go now.

That's a shitload of intellectual property and leadership which actually worries me but it's like being a helicopter parent - you have to trust that there is leadership and loosen the reigns (deliberate misspelling)

Glass and Cousins upgraded I'd say

Thought we'd get rid of Heatherly but he has done a good job recently

This thread needs more "where is there excess" and "where is their need".

Presently we are doing pretty well with medium defenders and small forwards....not so well in the mid (inside and outside) department

So arr

PS Langford and Doc as small forwards has been a real find. These guys are still pretty young and the fact that they can play in other positions is super handy. My view on these two has radically changed from "verging on list cloggers" to "must keep". We have to seriously think of players who CAN do the job and players who are "getting on".

This is something to remember when we jump the gun to think of de-listing younger players. It's also something to remember when we are too prone to hang on to older ones who we love

I think it's time to move Pops on and in a way similar to what we did with Sammy and Lewis. Retirement package peanuts trade to a team thinking of contending for a flag

Hanrahan was a rookie selection, so its not an automatic 2 year deal. You're thinking Morrison and Lewis.

Whitecross has a contract for 2018

Regardless would be surprised if he's at the Hawks next year.
Doesn't look even particularly close to breaking back in to the team this year, maybe needs a freshie somewhere else.
Hope we get him to wherever they might value his character and leadership.

Well, its up to Whitecross, not the Club. He has a contract.

He's a leader and a good depth player. Considering the experience we've lost recently, and about to lose, I think the Club would see him as a very handy player to be around as the rebuild continues.
2019 would be a different story.

A month ago I would have thought Doc, Kurt, Langers and Schoe would have been under considerable pressure. On recent form they are all safe as houses.
Same, but all don't have a contract for 2018 except Langers.

Club might be "fattening the pig" for a trade/FA end of year

Seriously? We are 2 games behind the Swans and 3 behind the Saints with only 7 to go.

In addition, our run home includes: Cats, Dockers at Domain and the Swans. I know we are a chance to beat North, the Dogs, the Blues and the Tigers, but I think finals are well and truley gone.

Dureya is a keeper, can play back and forward, and has filled in for Poppy brilliantly (we know Clarko loves multi-positional players)
Shoey straightens us up so much, I hope he stays, and continues to play forward
Heatherley is all heart, but is that enough to stay on the list? Maybe
Poppy, gee it's hard, love him, but has had a very poor year, help him get a retirement package?
Whitecross should go to the Lions if he wants senior footy, won't get it at Hawthorn
Willsmore is a list clogger, should've been delisted earlier
Surman retired
Hodge retired
Gibbo should retire
Burgoyne MUST play on

Perhaps. If what we have seen over the last month endures and matures. We chuck in JOM, Siz and Chip. We don't need a hell of a lot.

I don't believe we will move on any of our 'talent'. Snaffle Rocky or Dusty and we are set to go again.
