Saw a tiny little article in the paper that Shoey signed for another year - that happened very quiet and didn't even see anything on the club site

Does anyone have the patience or diligence to show our list ins and outs for the last five years?

From memory we always lose/move on at least 1 or 2 best 22 players. And often lose an additional player to the opposition (Hill, Suckling, Anderson, Savage and probably a few others).

We've signed up most of the young crew so they won't be used as trade chips.

Really hard to know what we'll do given we have Rioli, Frawley, Stratton Birchall and Ceglar available for next year.

Thinking about how our club usually acts I think we will:
1. Trade in a player. If we're in the race for Lever then I'm sure we'll go hard, otherwise I think we'll try and crowbar someone off the GWS list.

2. Bring in a free agent. There aren't many left and I don't think we'll get someone just for the sake of it. If we don't then go back to step one and double it.

3. Bring in a senior player from somewhere for the purpose of depth and experience. (Have done this many times in Clarko's reign with mixed results: Dew, Bruce, Guerra, Henderson, Skipper, Fitzy, Spangher and probably a bunch of others I can't remember).

4. Surprise trade! There's always a surprise. Wrighty will somehow swap a bunch of late picks for another bunch of late picks and a player. This is where the moneyball trades happen.
patience? yes

time today? doesn't look like it

Wright has shown he can do anything with low draft picks. He needs a year to throw as many darts at the board as possible and he could unearth another 5+ good players for us. If you don't have good darts (top 5 picks), you just needs lots of 'em.

I vote for another significant list turnover.

Gone: Hodge, Gibbo, Fitzmagic, Surman.

We usually bring 2+ in through trade/FA. I reckon we move another 8 players off the list, which would give Wrighty 10 darts to work with.

We have some kids who look like genuine talents that you would want to pencil in for our next dynasty.

Cousins, Hardwick, Morrison, Glass, Howe, Brand. Burton and Sic are givens, hopefully TOB too. JOM and Titch obviously!

There's a tier we need to see more of, and you hope 2-3 of these might also make it:
JOR, Lovell, Pitts, Stewart, Heatherly, Lewis, Hanrahan, Nash, Miles (doubtful, but contracted), Willsmore (seen enough? delist?)

We need to move some mid tier players on - I would literally take anything for them. The following have had long enough in the system and some have been overtaken by 19 year olds:

Whitecross, Durea, Shoey, Langford, Hartung, Vickery (contracted, but I'd still delist)...

We then have our premiership heroes. Hopefully some can be part of a flag tilt in their twilight years, but as a demographic they don't fit with the rest of our list. Ideally, we move on another 2-3 from this group (and get some decent trade value).

My dream is that we bring in Lever and trade Frawley and Stratton. Don't shoot me. At most, you really only want to carry one stopper in the backline who doesn't provide drive.

Poppy to GWS as a piece that helps us land Hopper.

So much movement would make top 4 and a tilt next year hard (although with the evenness of the comp, who knows!). Could set us up for a long time though...

I think Langford is a keeper, shown enough for me!Except his set shots on goal!

I still have hopes for Miles. If we had not had so many injuries in defence, Hardwick may have spent the year at Box Hill and his name would be getting thrown up as well.

Willsmore I wouldn't mind keeping as a rookie. We are lacking players who can kick goals from outside 50 from a set shot and that makes a lot of our forward thrusts very predictable.
I still have hope for Kurt Heatherly aswell?

Definitely not condoning this... But do you think there is any truth to the rumour of Silk already organised a Sammy Mitchell style post-football coaching role back in Adelaide and the possibility of playing out his final year back at Power?

Having seen what happened last year, nothing surprises me!!!
Where is the dislike button when you need it?

We're not trading out Frawley or Gunston, we went through a lot to get both to the club and neither is in the superannuation phase of their career.
Langford wouldn't play anywhere else, he stays until retirement.
Not sure on Poppy, this weekends' game has shown he still has got what it takes, but he's 30 next year.
Stratton is the interesting one, will be 29 at the start of the season and probably has a few good years left in him, might struggle to push Sicily or Hardwick out of the back line and can't kick a goal to save himself.

Our second loss to Geelong demonstrates how Stratton remains irreplaceable

Everyone keeps saying that but I do remember Stratton having his head sat on by Dangerfield twice in 2016.
Dangerfield also kicked a pearler from the boundary in the 2015 semi that we proceeded to win by 70+, my point being that champion players make remarkable plays. I still don't think he kicks 5 on Stratton as a permanent forward no matter how often he winces and capers about his sore leg

I have a very strong feeling that silk may finish his playing days at Power and then slide into a coaching gig... (Sammy Mitchell style) p.s don't shoot the messenger
Feeling, or knowledge/vaguely reputable source?

Only a gut feel about him playing out his career at Power.. I can't remember where I heard it but I heard that Silk had some arrangement to move back to SA to persue coaching once his playing days are over..

After what we saw happen with Sammy last year, won't surprise me if we see something similar with Silk. Yes Silk was fantastic for us again this year, but let's not forget Sammy had just won the b&f..

You heard it on SEN.

It's crap.

Burgoyne is still all class and has the X factor.

I was one of the people that was not unhappy about Mitch and Lewis being moved on however I will be annoyed if we let Burgoyne go.

Anyway let's see how it plays out I guess but for me still has a role to play next season and if he spent the season mid/forward I am sure he could net us 25 goals and set up a heap as well.

Port offered Shaun a 1 year playing, 2 year assistant coaching role last year, which he knocked back, and re-signed with us
Port have told him their offer stands
I know, you've posted this before.

It's crap unless he does an about face and decides to take the offer at Port.

From what I know, it ain't going to happen at this stage.
That's what I mean
He has been approached by Port for 2 years now, this is fact
It would be very surprising if he took them up on their offer
He loves Hawthorn and everything they have done for him and his family

He has an offer from the AFL, which is probably more appealing.
