How does the US voting system differ from ours?
The system for congress is first past the post, rather than compulsory preferential voting we have for the house of reps.
Think it's first past the post for the senate over there as well, while we have optional preferential voting in our senate.

The presidency is based off the electoral college and not the popular vote. Each state and DC is attached a number of delegates based on population. The winner gets to take forward all of the delegates in each jurisdiction. 538 in total, so 270 for the win

There's also no national electoral commission, with each state running it's own election.

Who in the **** responds to ANYTHING in that way? They're so weird. Why tie up your identity in weird sexual frustrations and cult-like politics? Are they compensating for a lack of actual personality? Secretly hiding 'immoral' urges? Bafflingly strange behaviour

Absolutely PTSD riddled ex Navy SEALs

Predictions.

What form will the next insurrection take?

Trump is facing sentencing in New York as is. If he's not President elect he's almost certainly getting jail given the offences, the judges sentencing record and his continual contempts of court.

If Harris wins big and clearly any attempts at Jan 6 redux will be swiftly crushed. They won't be caught be surprise again.

If it's drawn out and contested like 2000 or 2020, yeah, it could get ugly on the streets.

The electoral college splits the vote in Nebraska and Maine between congressional districts I think (though I am slightly more familiar with Nebraska). So its not winner take all in all 50 states. Republicans recently tried to change the rules in Nebraska but were thwarted. They were trying to get the extra vote Donald might need at the electoral college.

Nah I don’t think so. Trump didn’t go after anyone after he was elected, if the Democrats do it it’ll become banana republic type stuff.

He's already facing sentencing in a New York court. Nothing political about it.

That said, his going to CIA headquarters and attacking them literally in front of their memorial wall for agents killed in the line of duty absolutely enraged them.

Ahh yes, you're right. Forgot about Maine and Nebraska splitting their vote based on congressional districts.

I don't think we'll ever see Trump in "jail", as much as I'd like to see it and as much as I think he genuinely deserves it for the corruption and crimes he has committed. But unfortunately I don't have much faith in the American justice system when it comes to the ultra-wealthy.

Lot of folks understand an opportunity was missed post Jan 6, and won't make the same mistake.

Also putting him away hugely popular in NYC.

What I think we will see, potentially, is a situation where Trump is confined to Mar-a-Lago.

Either through a sentenced 'house-arrest' situation, or through a defacto 'siege' type of situation where Trump refuses to leave Mar-a-Lago to be sentenced or incarcerated, and to avoid an awkward situation where Secret Service agents are put between their protectee and law enforcement officers sent to take Trump into custody, an uneasy détente will be fomented.

Nah, if he loses he's an embarrassment plenty like DeSantis will be keen to kick to the curb.

Secret Service is part of Homeland Security, they'll do what they're told.

(All of this is of course moot if he wins again, because he'll simply pardon himself, his family, and his cronies on day one for any past or future crimes. Which is something all innocent people totally do).

Very true.
