6 episodes in. Not really digging it. The books and even the game (Wild Hunt being the only one I played) were imbued with an emotion and a melancholy that's missing here. It's fine but nothing special, mostly a generic fantasy-action show with the Witcher skin stretched over tight and not much soul.

Nailed it. A lot of the pieces are there but it’s tonally off.

Just finished all 8 episodes.

I loved it but I get why it’s going to really divide viewers.

It took me til episode 4 to realise how the story was being told and I’m a little familiar with the universe, no expert by any means but definitely not a completely new viewer, so I get why people not familiar with the universe would be confused.

Thought Henry Cavill was fabulous as the Witcher. Loved the actress playing Yennefer as well, Yennefer was probably my favourite character in this adaptation, also thought the actress that played Ciri nailed it and the guy that played Jaskier was freaking awesome!

This show definitely benefits from binge watching however, I also think it’s going to benefit a lot from rewatches.

I honestly wouldn't mind having a bunch of filler episodes about Geralt hunting a random monster without the Ciri/Yennefer stuff. The almost mystery-esque tone of the Foltest episode would make for a brilliant procedural (I guess production values would falter if they made a massive length part-procedural/part-overarching plot style season though).

I didn't think it was possible to be more annoying than Jaskia (who is purposefully annoying), but I think they've managed it with Fringilla.

Also my memory of the the events in episode 8 are a bit fuzzy but I feel like they took a fair bit of creative license with it as compared to the source material

Watched it all today. I thought it was crazy good.

I think I'll finally get around to playing witcher 3 now

Do it.

Word of warning, it will pretty much ruin all other games for you. :D

Do. Do it now. If you do, make sure it is the Game of the Year edition with the expansions.

Went to try and buy the books. All bookshops have only 1 or 2 of the seriee left. Same story when asking about them: "Been quite a bit of interest in last couple of days compared to previous weeks."
Lmao
I ended up buying Last Wish, which most of season one seems to be based on, for my kindle, added it to my Christmas/New Year reading list which is getting really really long. I didn’t see it in the stores on Saturday when I was shopping either.

Not in stock, but I'm thinking of buying this and reading them considering what I read was just a fan translation. First 7 books for $69. Should have jumped on it yesterday, because it was $57 :(

Amazon product ASIN 912359795X
Just had a look again and there is a set of the 8 books on Amazon for $78 too

Just finished it.

Tapered off towards the end after such a strong start but still more than solid. I don't play the games or read the books so the multiple timelines of Geralt, Yen and Ciri was a bit confusing at first, but the three actors for them were good (Yen and Ciri) to excellent (Geralt). Still, a nice entry to the Netflix stable and looking forward to S2 (apparently in 2021).

On the last episode.

Enjoying Geralt and Yennefer’s storyline.

I find Ciri’s story boring. I’ve completely tuned out on her plot. Oops..

Naive heir apparent of a kingdom forced to flee after attack, goes on journey of self discovery then meets destiny.

There, I saved you 7 episodes or so of plot.

Ciri isn't interesting yet because she has no agency (yet) and for the bulk of the first season she is also not with any other characters who do either.

Presumably she will become more interesting once she gains some control of her powers and is able to make decisions other than "I have no idea what's going on and I'm going to run because I'm scared".

My Xbox crashed when I was halfway through about three years ago. Got a ps4 and thought the game if the year edition... but never got round to restarting. This show inspired me I'm back into it and loving it
