its not unfair, its just less fair than a replay. but it cant be helped this week. 2 grand finals is a stretch, 3 is just not feasible.

its a compromise, just like overtime during the finals.... a semi final replay gives the non-replay competitor a week off and a huge advantage, and overtime is fairest for the competition overall

with no such inequality on GF day, a replay is doable, and the fairest option

This. The beautiful thing about the Grand Final replay is that it's only practical/fair because it is the Grand Final.

This shit is Haley's Comet and dudes are complaining coz it's spooking their Pomeranians.

(but only once, apparently)

Nothing to do with fairness, just PR.

I think Nick Maxwell will come to regret those words. I think a rematch is fairer than 10 more minutes, and that's how it has always been done.

Sure, Nick, you're disappointed about drawing a game that your team led for 98% of the match, but HTFU. You sounded like a whinger.

Was it Richmond who came out and smashed Collingwood physically, causing Maxwell to have a massive sook on GameDay?

He's a knob.

Maxwell is an absolute joke. He's trying so hard to stamp his place in the media world after his career. He runs his mouth too much. I understand what he meant by "we come for a win or a loss" but thats not the AFL's fault. a draw is very rare and he wasn't arguing about the rules before the game. I don't know why he was so pissed off anyway, the Sainters were absolutely charging at them at the end. 10 more minutes IMO would've been a certain Saints victory.

Maxwell summed up the thoughts of probably every supporter and player.

This rule has to be changed AFL. It is RIDICULOUS we replay a game when extra time is used in ALL other finals.

Saints by 5 goals next week. Collingwood are just too good at choking.

you must use overtime in finals because you can't afford to knock back each game by a week. This gives teams that have already won a week off. Think practically Magik.

Personally I think it won't be changed. Try telling Demetriou (and his franchise's recent $15,000,000 intake) that it isn't fair.

Collingwood steadied in the last 5 minutes, and got the last goal of the game. So St Kilda's momentum was stopped, in a small way. You can't say St Kilda would have definitely won the game. Anything could have happened.

Are you saying there is something "unfair" about a replay? If so, exactly which team is it unfair to?

I hope that question n't directed at me, because my entire post described how I believe it's the rules and it's not unfair to anyone...
Maybe I didn't make that clear enough for you.

I would suggest that if a non-Victorian team was playing, it would be very unfair to them. Rule needs to be changed before this happens.

Imagine if the shoe was on the other foot and Collingwood had to travel to Perth twice for two Grand Finals, do you think Eddie would say it is fair then?

The fact that the Grand Final is staged at the MCG in the first place would mean it's unfair to the non-victorian team in the first place (not the replay, the actual grand final). Why is playing a second Grand Final at the MCG all of a sudden unfair?

To be fair they should either play all Grand Finals at a completely neutral venue or play one half of the game at Team A home ground and the other half at Team B home ground. But that will never happen.

The home of the Grand Final is at the MCG.

It is not suddenly unfair, it is compounding the issue.

wow - what a scintillating replay - so glad we played this one again instead of 2 ten minute halves /end sarcasm

you would get the same result for any interstate team who had to come back to the g two weeks in a row.

Whatever dude. I think it's great watching the replay - you might never get to catch another one.

Honestly I think we could have gone without seeing this shit today. dont you think. The hype was surely the game was so good last week to produce a draw we can milk the game, create all this hype and hopefully have another down to the wire contest.

Instead what reality tell's you was one of the sides was always going to get flogged as they would be unable to come up from last weeks game. All the experts predicted it.

They say its fair for both teams because teams could be unfit and limping to the line at the end of a grand final and may scrape through for a draw. that was the headline reason the afl said a replay had to go ahead. What I dont understand how the shit we are seeing today is better then a potential extra time come from behind win. honestly tell me because this games as boring as shit. seems to me this game is more about the fans then the teams involved and it was obvious as the pain of a replay set in and you could read the players faces that they were pissed off that extra time is not in.

Amazing that if it went to extra time the Saints would of won the premiership. Just seems tainted now. Like a half win for the Pies.

yeah - sensational game of footy - im on the edge of my seat

the only footy fans who are enjoying this crap are collingwood fans - anyone else ......

No doubt that as a neutral supporter (read: going for Saints) I would have rather watched an extra 10 minutes of good hard competitive footy last weekend even if the Saints ended up losing than the 80 minutes of uncompetitive crap that was served up today.

yep. The non event today wasn't because collingwood are a far better team but because the saints were tired from last week:rolleyes:

Complete Bulldust! The pies & saints played exactly the same amount of footy over the last 4 weeks, why would the saints be more tired than the pies? The answer is, they wern't.

The saints missed chances early on, and the pies over ran them in the end. Could easily have less that a goal in at at half time and the second half would have been very different.

Today was the perfect example why we should not have replays...(not because Cwood won)
One game one chance !!! This 'two bites of the cherry' is crap.
And the icing on the cake someone who had a ordinary game last week winning the norm smith

Maybe - maybe not. There is no way of knowing. Suggesting as such is purely speculation. Perhaps Collingwood could have built on the final goal they scored...

No it doesn't. I don't agree with the replay but them are the rules.

Silly talk. Collingwood clearly showed themselves to be the better team, which is the name of the game.

Note the  emoticon. Collingwood deserved it.
