I know that many of you will find it hard to see this straight after the game but this loss wil help us in the future. Can't question the guys attitude. They simply ran out of legs. Im proud of our boys, our aim was finish in the finals - we did that. We'll take the pain of this loss in to next season and go on to bigger and better things.

Well done blue boys on a great year :thumbsu:

sometimes you can take positives out of losing, but not from a game like this.

to lose when you're up by 5 goals in the last quarter is unforgivable. terrible way to end the season.

Maybe but I'll fail to see it.
It's all well and good to say oh well at least we made the finals but seriously **** that. 30 points up had the game won and let them kick the next 6.

This has to settle for at least until the finals are over. Then regroup.

Good game tonight guys, bad luck, atleast you made finals. Quite a good effort for a team known to have about 5 good players that carry the whole side.
They've been found out to be downhill skiers though which isn't very good, hopefully during the preseason they'll try and learn to tackle and defend.
Most of your top notch players should be hitting their straps though at their current age, strange they're not..
Maybe with Cloke being able to hold a KPF position you could move Fevola to the backline as you really need a big bodied, able player back there.
Bad luck once again, better luck next year.

As robert walls said this will teach us that you havta fight all the way till the end. We obviously weren't ready and this will be a good learning experience for the future. Sure, we were 30 points up and should have won. But que sera sera. It has happened. We can't change that. Let's look forward to what promises to be an exciting and fulfilling year in '10!

I agree OP, I just wish we had flooded in the last qtr when they started their run on or something. We had many tired bodies, and I guess some soft ones (i.e Houla), so it was disappointing it was left so open.

Still we will learn from this. Next year will be good. :thumbsu:

I think that Ratts and the rest of the coaching staff will be letting the boys know that today wasnt good enough and that they had better work their asses off in the preseason so that they come back fitter and stronger than ever.

I think that a few of the boys will take todays loss badly and will come out and try harder next year

And a couple of players who didnt show up for the first half will be on notice to pick their game up next year or they are gone at the end of the season.

We did ok for a team with a skeleton backline and with the guys coming back next year, we should be a lot stronger and some of the guys being played out of position will be allowed to play their natural games.

I agree reg. Ratten will cop the heat he deserves - Nil defensive mindset.
I'm concerned he's not going to learn. We'll see if he has next year.
You must keep teams to 70-80 pts and kick 90-100 to have a game style to win finals. It's always been that way. He'll need to work that out over summer or next year will be his last. He seems happy leaving big spaces in the oppositions forwards and having shoot outs. Whilst I always hope we win, a win would have masked our deficiencies and they may have been brushed over.
We were never going to win the flag this year so you have to force yourself to think what's best long term.

Nice work in Adelaide

No need for the sarcasm mate, I was simply lending some ideas.
I wish Knights was man enough to tank for 6 or so years so we could get to 7th rather than 8th. Damn you guys for being so lucky!

Is this only because Robert Walls said the same thing?

IMO, he was only going on about this because he was still in shock, basically in the "denial" stage.

If anything, this sort of thing will shell shock you next year.

Brisbane were depleted, you had the game in the bag, and you lost it. One thing you have to work on is your consistancy. Last week you guys were smahed by Adelaide by a similar amount to us, and yet it wasn't even a final. Adelaide barely cared... and you had your ruckmen, and a potent foward, unlike us. Not to mention it was in Melbourne.

As far as I'm concerned, losing to Brisbane will sting for a while. A long while. Because this game was yours to be won, unlike last week.

Next year you may improve, but this time, don't talk about a top 4 finish until you're sure you deserve it. :thumbsu:

Relax, were both as bad as each other. May aswell have had a top 5 this season, the rest of us were filling the gaps.

no doubt this loss will be something the club looks back on in years to come, just like the geelong loss to nick davis & sydney in the prelim the year sydney won it was....lets hope the pain of tonight is part of the journey towards #17

Is it true that gibbs, kreuser, judd, fevola and murphy didn;t miss one single game between them??

Is that really true?

If so, you have to admit, that is unlikely to happen again!

I'll only know if we learn from tonight the next time we are 30 points up in the final quarter of a cut-throat final.

I'm sorry, but at the moment I am struggling to be positive about losing tonight, given the position we were in.

You sure as hell don't win premierships when you showed as little character as we did in the final term tonight.

You would hope that this experience serves to resolve the playing group and coaching staff towards doing better next year. If not, our so-called re-emergence may well prove to be a myth.

If there is any player who is not hurting to the bone over what happened out there tonight I don't want them at the club any more.

Hoops played better than I expected while others played a lot worse than I had hoped.

It is called good injury management & is the reason why St Kilda have been so powerful this season. Have a look back at previous seasons & see how many injuries to key players St Kilda have had, which ultimately rendered them uncompetitive with the top sides, & then compare it to this season.

You will find the Carlton players you have named had a similarly good run last season, so it is not just good luck.

FWIW, Fev plays with injuries that would see most players sidelined (eg Matty Lloyd, bruised heel) & Judd also carries injuries well (he played on one leg for the second half of the 2007 season).

If you hadn't heard - we have been w/o our FB & CHB (& IstRuck recruit) for a while. If you have come on to explain why you were spanked by Adelaide - we don't give a stuff

Hoops was one of our best players tonight. Unfortunately we did not have enough good players on the night, but I am not going to single out those who let us down, because that would be counter-productive.

;) You will notice I did not either

I will bring up however my hope that Mitch Robinson becomes a star for us. We have only two players with an extrovert side to them in our team and half the time they show more negativity than excitement. Juddy is a great 'by example' leader - we could also do with a couple of excitement machines
