Hopefully this happens. It probably won't though. No pollie will want to take the fall if there were a shark attack after they approved the removal of nets.

True story: Mrs NB and I were SUPing a few hundred meters off Waikiki Beach a few years ago. We had a chat with one of the surfers who was out there waiting for a wave. He told us that the reason there was no-one much around that fine day was that people were nervous still after the recent shark attacks. We shrugged and went on with our paddle.

Not bragging, but we both know that statistically we're far more likely to die on the way to the beach or by drowning, than by a shark.

The shark situation is beyond out of control. It's not just the man eaters either, sharks are destroying recreational fishing, tourism our entire beach lifestyle in general. They are in plague proportions. In some localities the amount of fish lost to sharks makes the whole exercise of fishing an untenable fish kill. Those arguing sharks are the top of the food chain and a sign of a healthy ecology don't understand how an ecology works.

Yes, I'm with your argument. Originally from Vic and soon to be back on the coast.

We ate shark/flake for years but I believe it was responsibly sourced.

As Australia's population expands we are using more natural resources, that is also the shark's prey.

My sympathy lies with the victims and their families.
