Wait why are we giving up Riley? That could be a huge mistake...

Hey I rate the kid highly and think he probably should have been playing in the finals ahead of Petrenko, but I just don't see him breaking into our side anytime soon. With the likes of Crouch, Lyons and Kerridge around competing with him, Smith likely to move into the midfield soon and already a wealth of inside mids. I think it would be best for him to be looking elsewhere, especially considering he's a NSW boy and if the club can get something of value from him we should be looking at it.

Just a bit more info:
Kurts manager has told AFC that they were happy with the financial package offered.
The reason why Kurt wants to go to Sydney or Queensland is that he was sick of all the media attention and wants to play somewhere where he gets little media/public attention. The final straw was the way he was treated by the media/public over his concussion issues.
He also believes NSW/Queensland lifestyle is more to his liking.

*Wonder how kurt will fit into the Sydney culture of team over individuals.
Should be interesting.

A) That was NATIONAL media attention at the time of a pressing issue in sport. Adam Goodes would've copped the same scrutiny if he had been unlucky enough to cop three concussions in five weeks.

B) He could be Sydney's first million dollar man, which will put a massive public/media focus on him.

Doesn't wash $kurt....

I thought the media and the public treated him very fairly with regards to his concussion issues. Didn't see any issue there.

Kurt, just nominate a club you big sooky sooky la-la.
He is using the "it's not you, it's them" routine

If Sydney get Tippet, their 15% extra salary cap is going to be the target of all clubs in the AFL until its gone. Be assured of it.

I think its about time it was gone anyway. All clubs have their challenges but Sydney's challenge is the only one that is getting a concession from the AFL. We have problems retaining players from interstate but get nothing. West Coast and Freemantle have that issue too, and also travel much further than anyone but get nothing. Its time for Sydney to compete on an equal salary cap to everyone else.
Yep. I would go further even. If they really can afford $1m then other clubs, with us leading the way, need to kick up an almighty fuss. If the AFL doesn't change it (likely outcome), we need to lobby for a retention allowance of 10% or so. FFS, who loses most players from their club? Sydney or the Adelaide teams?.
Tme to start getting a little more edgy / ruthless on things as many are saying

Thats all i got, not sure.
Makes a little sense given he was close to signing with us pre-concussions..

Interesting info Faith. If media is that big of a deal, I suspect the Suns might not be as appealling as I had him pencilled as a marquee player for the hometown lad, being on the billboards with Gaz etc...

What a load of crap re concussions. Understading And caring public combined with a professional, conservative club putti this long term interests first...god this guy sucks.
If he returns to the coast, I am going to hunt him down for a chat

First off he wont be on a mill per year it maybe a million dollar contract but not per year

Secondly johnston is more important then tippett Johnson won us a flag FFS he was outstanding in granny and with our aging backline is well needed there's no point strengthening the forward line if it's going it drastically weaken our back 6 particularly when johnsons the sort of player our so called flingshot counter attack is based around.

Honestly, you should be red carded for a post that is as full of garbage as this one.

Johnson is a good honest battler.

You need to realize that Sydney is a team with good honest players playing in a great system within an excellent culture.

But you can't trade us system and culture. Only good honest players. Ad Johnson would struggle to get a game in our back six. We're trading you a top five player for a top twenty five player.

This is why the entire football community don't understand how Sysney can get Tippett. They can lure him with extra cash from their salary cap bonus, but what can they offer us?

And this from a man who can't lie straight in bed. The fact is that they have overplayed their hand, just as they did with Scully.

Kurt wanted the lot

1) Highest paid player in his last three years at Adelaide
2) Extra income from media and advertising despite being a very private person (Check out Matthew Scarlett for what a true private person does).
3) Move back home but not while Gold Coast is struggling.
4) A five year contract with maximum dollars.
5) Have a long list of "Friends for Life" whilst happily treating them like crap.

sydney 900k p.a
adelaide 750k p.a
GC 650k p.a

Kurt wouldnt go to sydney over adelaide for an extra 150k p.a pre-tax.
It has to be more than just money i think.......

I think GC offer is 700k? The article a day or so ago said 3.5 mil offer to Tippett. If I remember right, Channel 9 said up here on Wed night he would then become the highest paid player, more than Gaz. Ablett had a heavily front loaded contract (7-10 million over 5 years) while all our youngsters were on rookie entry wages

Has anyone got the photo of the massage woman with Rhonda on the beach (AAMI add) referring to Kurt Tippett?

My views on this one are probably rare and will be rubbished but anyway....... I believe the extra cap space in Syd needs to remain. The competition needs a strong Sydney side. If the AFL can break their Sydney Hoodoo and take market share off the NRL this will create an extremely healthy and unstoppable competition. Other clubs will benefit from higher tv deals, handouts etc.
Sydney have come out this year and said they have never used the extra space they have been given. They have only used the exact space allocated to other clubs as well. On top of this if they do need to reach into the extra cap to pay for Kurt it will be for only a very limited time. They will probably have Bolton retire now, Goodes by the end of next year and O'Keefe close after that. That frees up a lot of space there and leaves a huge talent hole as well. Grabbing Tippett keeps them at least competitive when these guys go while young talent is developed.
You also have the issue of local talent. I'd like to know how many NSW players played in that GF side....... I doubt it was many. Until they can develop enough local talent to make it easier to keep players in Syd the cap should remain. It all stems back to success and kids wanting to play AFL over NRL and soccer.

Why would we trade Rohan?
Not sure if you're aware, but there's a chance you'll need to trade for Kurt Tippett to come to your club... Usually works like that.

Also to me Syd is the lesser of two evils. Would rather Kurt go to Syd who's only concession is 650k more than the rest of the comp than the GC who were given first shot at the best 17yo, numerous extra draft picks, $1mill+ in extra cap etc.
