I can handle Graham being added to our list if White isn't. Graham comes on basically "for free", presumably on a bargain basement salary, and stick around as depth incase Jacobs falls over or needs a rest, all fine. Can't see a long-term future for him at our club, but fine.

If we get White as well, I really don't understand it. We've minimised the number of new additions to our list, only to add two mediocre ruckmen unwanted by their respective clubs? Ouch.

I dont think it really matters what we gave up for Graham.
It appears that we may only use 2 national draft picks this year - picks 19 & 22 (or whatever they become after the free agency compo is dished out).
Given the above scenario, then pick 40 and whatever we get for Knights (maybe pick in the range 43-60) would not have been used by us and essentially are "worthless"
unless we could trade them to increase one of our picks 19/22 or pick up somebody worthwhile that addresses another need.
Graham is probably the best type of back-up for Jacobs (if he suffers long-term injury), since Graham is a taller 201 cm ruck and who is "happy" to play SANFL unless required.
White/Smack/Jenkins are probably more suited as 2nd ruck/KPF unlike Graham who wil be the pure 1st ruck back-up in case of emergency.
My comments are meant to relate solely to picks, not to whether Graham/White are any good :) (hopefully South will get one of them in the SANFL).
More interesting now is that if both White & Graham come in, we now only have 1 live ND pick vacancy which means that somebody else will need to be delisted (maybe Joyce? and then rerookied and we can still pay him more than a prescribed rookie wage).
Of course, if there are any other trades (in/out) done, it all changes - all the talk has been pick 22+White, yet, unlikely as it seems, who knows what is happening behind the scenes (Parker?, GHS?, Smack?).....

I am crossing my fingers that something is happening (Parker?) to get us pick 11 plus pick 22 plus White for Tippett and then trading 22 for GHS.

Depends.. It's a risk vs reward situation. In the unlikely event that he grows a pair, we could be made to look like fools. In the highly probable event that his career continues going nowhere, we could be making out like bandits before everyone else realises how good he ain't.

Do we have a choice other than to back McKernan in to "grow a pair" (as you put it) given Tippett's departure? None of the other options are remotely good enough as a second ruck...

Graham is not "the best type of back up for us". He's not even good enough to be Richmond's back up. I bet there are 10-20 ruckmen in the state leagues who would be better options than Graham. Currie for one. What happened to us looking at him?

I can understand us getting White, if it helps Sydney's cap space to get Tippett and Sydney also arrange a trade whereby we get pick 11 plus 22 (plus White).

AFL needs to fix this cost of living allowance. It should not be 10% of the salary cap. It should be a fixed amount rent adjustment if anything.

3 years in a row a distortion in the system created by the AFL in respect to Gold Coast, GWS and now the Sydney cost of living allowance are causing significant grief.

It's the beginning and end of it really. Hope the club gets on the front foot in this respect.

Not even close to fair value; we'd be getting completely reamed on both of them.

Tippett for Yarran & 11 would be reasonable, but McKernan for a second round pick would be crazy.

Tippett for Parker & 22 is still crap from our end.

Trading McKernan at this stage would be flat out mental.
Curious to hear your justification on these comments. McKernan was drafted with pick #28 (late 2nd round) back in 2008. He's had 4 years on our list and has done nothing of note. I can't see any possible justification for another club offering us more than his original value (pick #28) - and plenty of reasons why they would offer less than that.

McKernan may bloom in 2013. I wouldn't bet on it, because what he lacks can't be taught. He has talent, he lacks balls & heart. If he does break out next year then we could, possibly, lose out on the trade. If he doesn't, we'll probably be delisting him and we'll be the ones who look like idiots for failing to trade him while he still had some trade value. Given the risk vs reward, I'd be more than happy to take a decent 2nd round pick for him this year.

It'd be a pretty simple problem to fix.

Cost of living is too high? Easy. Work it so the players are allowed to claim any extra cost of living expensives (work it out compared to, say, Melbourne average) back from the club, and those claims lie outside of the salary cap.

If the club can't afford to pay it, the AFL covers it.

Hell, they could probably even work out some kind of tax exemption out of the deal.

Currie, Hannath, Willits, Moran re PCL, basically almost any ruckman >>> Graham.

The fact he is contracted means who ever wants him will have to pay overs to get him...... its the way it goes. If he was coming out of contract then I couldn't see us getting anything more.

The living allowance is fair.. Our rent prices are higher, fuel, food, beer.. It is the only thing people have to whinge about. The Swans manage their list well and thats it..

Angus Graham. Jessie White....

Yeah.... Losing Rendell will not hurt the Crows at all:rolleyes:
I still think we should look at Seaby aswell, maybe Josh Fraser....

Anyone on here still sticking up for our joke of a club...?
I never thought I would be as angry at the AFC as I was after they shafted the best recruitment manager in the AFL...
We are nothing but a feeder club.

Yeah, I am Freddy. Sorry. I don't believe rumours until they are proven to be true (and then sometimes I still don't believe them).

At this point, all we have is hearsay. We are taking Rucci's comments from Rumour Ralph and some random guys on Twitter as facts, and threatening to take our pitchforks to West Lakes. The AFL.com.au website even used the Hun and the Age as their sources, and how often are they right?

If this goes down as people on here think it will, I will be as disappointed as anyone else, but until we have facts (and nothing will happen today, until FA compensations are announced) I'm not going to get worked up, or make idle threats about the AFC.

McKernan is still on an AFL list, and has shown plenty of good signs; that's a lot more than quite a few players of his type, drafted when he was.

Schoey, Hawkins, Cloke etc; most of the bigger kids take a few years to get going - the fact that he's still listed while guys like Lisle are long gone, suggests he's got a future. Even Walker, who is a freakish anomaly, took a few years to really get going.

Reid touted as a top 5 pick; shown good signs, but nothing to suggest he's worth that. McKernan has been kept out by Tippett and Tex; one should win the Coleman next year, one is walking out for $1M a year.

If he'd had more opportunities, he would've shown more.

And trading him now, when we've lost the guy keeping him out of the side, is beyond stupid.

Not so sure about that. We are in desperate need of a ruckman that can sit on our list and play SANFL whilst be ready for a call up if Jacobs goes down. He would come very cheap and unless Jacobs gets injured we wont see him. Matthew Clark is also a very good ruck coach so I wouldn't mind banking on him improving slightly.

Although I do like the idea of scouring the lower leagues in each state for a ready made mature ruckman we could sit on our list. Oren Stephenson is a perfect example of this.

Vader any idea of who else is out there?
I'd prefer Stephenson to Graham. Actually, I prefer White to Graham - and I'm sure you've read my thoughts on White!

As for who's available.. I'm not sure. It's too late to head down to watch the Ainslie U13s. The kid who rucks there is too young for drafting, but would be a better option than Graham.

Did I mention that I really don't want Adelaide to waste a senior list position on an oxygen thief like Graham?

Yeah, I'm sorry - I don't get that someone on $200,000 a year cares what a frigging beer costs - let alone someone on $800,000!

**** me, he's useless!
We need something to deflect criticism of the Jesse White trade.

Trading for Graham is genius.

Will fracture the critics into four categories - those angry about White, those angry about Graham, those angry about White & Graham, and those who wish we'd kept Neil.

Prevents any strong, coordinated, targeted criticism from the fan base.
