The club contacted me recently about my email and said they wanted to have a meeting. They set the meeting for the 31st of June so not long now.

If you don't mind me asking Elixuh, how come you got a response, let alone a meeting, from just sending an email like the rest of us have done?

Obviously you must have sent in a real beauty for them to act, so was wondering if you could share it with us..:)

O.k...have to mention something here......I can't physically hold a pen for very long due to massive tendon damage a few years ago, its fine now, but just cant do certain things due to weakness in my fingers, wrists...I deal with it, go around things differently to achieve what I want, and so, no dramas in everyday living...until I get asked to write a letter:confused:

Can tap keyboard real easy, but the actual holding of the pen and writing something of any note length wise is a no no....shopping list is about my limit!!

Have sent two emails in recent weeks re this jumper issue....am happy to sign with my name and member number.

Is that alright?...or not worth it in the scheme of things?

We all know 31 June doesn't exist right?

MM, as long as you sign the letter as a "real person" add your membership number which can be validated, there is nothing that says it can't be type written.
As long as it goes snail mail it will be received in at the Lions and added to the rest, which ought to be tabled at the next board meeting as inward mail.

I don't think people are meaning you have hand write a letter. I typed one up on word (signed it by hand) and printed it and will send it in an envelope to the club. Intangible electronic emails seem to have failed hence this approach. If you have a printer that may be an option.

I saw that post and I jizzed in my pants

lets just hope they were serious...

I win.

Do we have any high profile supporters that we could contact to ask them to help get this In the media a lot more all you do hear on the media at the moment is how good did the guernsey nothing about all these petitions personal letters and emails that the club seem to ignore.

Can anyone contact Kevin Murray?

Fantastic - the time is right now.

I have signed up. If any of you havent done so and are pasionate about the jumper being changed - make sure you sign up too. Support in numbers guys.

Also dont forget your letter to the club and you can up load them on the lions roar site also. Some heart felt letters in there. Makes for a great read :thumbsu:

Bert Newton - an old Roy Boy.

Bert like so many Fitzroy supporters never made it across, there were quite a few high profile people that never made it, John & Nancy Cain, Ugly Dave Gray, John Blackman, pretty sure none of them support Brisbane. Craig Willis is your man and he's hardly high profile. Kev '07 has probably got one shot left and is a quality media performer, try him;) .

Mate - so sorry.... I didn't even think when I typed S.T.D....!!!!

The Bulldogs - I was solely talking jumper - they changed the jumper from the white-red-white middle stripes with the Bulldog face, to the traditional guernsey of just the one white and one red stripe. With member consultation.

Freo - I wasn't talking about the song. I am recalling the jumper change. Interesting that the consultation covered both though. Mind you, have you considered that they didn't ending changing the song because members viewed it as now being "traditional" to the Club?

Port - now now, saying they have no members is being facetious. They provided jumper options and went with a design put forward by a six year old. Member consultation.

You say fans don't like change. Port's jumper change was quite extensive, when compared to their original. I personally think the fans don't like "stupid" change, rather than all change. The Port jumper change was quite radical from the original. But it was viewed as looking like a traditional guernsey, and with majority support. Well ours was a radical change - and no one asked us.... hmmm, what happened? Angst!

If fans don't like change, all and sundry - well why did those 3 clubs end up with changed guernseys with little or no angst? I'd suggest "consultation" is the answer.

When we talk about logo - let's seperate the story here. I haven't heard many people complaining overly about the use of the PP as a marketing and letterhead logo - the angst is purely about the jumper. Clubs have differentiated between the two before before. My angst is purely about the jumper - I can live with the PP elsewhere, but just not as the main item on the jumper. We can modernise and change our marketing logo as much as we like in the future - I feel I'm speaking for many people here - we don't really care about the marketing logo, BUT we care about the jumper. IF the old Lion is so hard to do marketing with then go for it - change the logo as much as we like. But the jumper is a different story.

Backing down on the jumper would do ZERO damage to the Brisbane Lions. Here's a positive spin - "we've listened to our fans and members, and we want to return to some of the older values of the Club from a decade ago when we had such success, so we're asking our members and fans...."

Zero damage? Seriously? I get that you favour that viewpoint, but you have to be able to see that forfeiting this one would cost the club in future flexibility. We cannot keep our guernsey like that forever - it is dated already, imagine how it'll look in 50 years. And I know, Collingwood would never change theirs, but their guernsey is 'stripes'. Ours is 'a lion image design'. Black and white stripes don't really age. Our guernsey has. I get that the traditionalists don't think so, but it really, really has. I'd love to see a knock up of our guernsey that simplified it to that sort of level though (stripes, hoops, sash, V... any of the above?). Freo, port, WB... all simplified their guernseys. Helps that they were all three maligned guernseys (like ours now, right when the club has said that in future they'll consult members... hmm...). Also helps that there is clear distinction between marketing logo and jumper design in all of their cases - something we don't have. Our marketing logo (or a version of it) has appeared on our jumper since merger. Interesting that they tried to keep that fairly traditional. One could argue that the club was trying to minimise the change.

I'm going to guess that your next argument would be "Carlton's guernsey never changes, and it's dated terribly and still got support of it's fans". True. But they are in Victoria. Their main way of recruiting fans is generational - calling on tradition helps. Our main growth comes from outreach - a rugby league state, where the Lions are trying to grab the kids. Yep - play the 'tradition' card, kids love tradition, just like they love museums, and art galleries... Seriously. Does no one get that our club's main aim at the moment (and with good reason) is expansion, and their main marketing target at the moment is young families and kids, and they've designed the logos and guernsey around this? I'm really surprised more fans don't grasp this.

-----

I was going to beat around the bush some more, and pretend that no one knows that a football club is a business and we're the customers, like I have all thread, but stuff it. It's time for bed - I'm going to cut straight to the chase, and go to the actual problem here: The club has failed in making it's members feel like family. I don't mean in relation to the guernsey, the logo, the curtains and carpets, or any other pointless and completely aesthetic feature that bears no impact on actually running a football club.

WHAT CURRENTLY HAPPENS - The club makes decisions, and tries to sell it to the members. Yes, the members are customers. Yes, the club employs marketing on you. Don't be so surprised. The club then tries to make you feel involved, and special, and that it wasn't all just a cheesy pickup line to get you into bed (and the club has never felt this way before - it really does think your eyes glisten in the moonlight). And surprise - the club fails, because we subconsciously recognise that we're being sold to, and no one actually likes the car salesman. So we feel like we're outside the club, we don't feel as much loyalty to the club (the team, sure, but not the club), and we whine that mummy gave us the pink balloon, not the blue one!

WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN - The club makes decisions, tells the members about it's decision, and tries to sell it to the public. If the club can reach this level (and believe me, it's trying... and failing...), it's a beauty to behold.
1 - Members are retained easier. Instead of being sold to, members feel like they're inside the family, not outside it. The members understand that the guernsey, the logo, the curtains, the carpets - they're all a facade with no actual purpose except to entice the customers. This increases member loyalty to the club, not just the team, and they don't have to put anywhere near as much effort into you to keep you there. You don't mind the dings in the walls, because you live there - you're part of the family.
2 - Focused advertising. The club can now focus its advertising, logos, guernseys, and all other aesthetic aspects on non-members. Getting new people in the door is the main task, the members are already in the door.
3 - You have 20,000 more sales staff. And growing - you get new members, and they become sales staff too.

This is where we differ from Collingwood. Eddie pisses me off so much, because he is a master of this. All Collingwood fans feel like they know him personally, and it makes them feel like part of the family. He is an unbelievable salesman, and it pisses me off. Our club is trying to get there though... The problem is, they've got aspects of it in place, without actually converting us to family. Look at Lions TV for example. The players don't do that for fun. They do that because management tell them that if they be nice versions of themselves, but still be a little bit human, people feel like they know them, and feel like they're family. If the club successfully converted us to 'inside the family', Lions TV would be the only advertising necessary to keep us as 'inside the family'. The problem is, they screwed it, and we feel like we're inside the team, not inside the club. They guernsey isn't what made them fail at this - it's evidence that they never succeeded in the first place.

Time for bed. Most people on here seem intelligent enough to accept this... I hope so. But honestly, I come on here to talk about football, and I get really sick of people kicking up a huge stink about design of all things. It makes me feel like I'm at work, when I come on here to avoid doing work :)-P)... That's why is slip back into business consultancy mode on these threads. Sorry to anyone who is offended by any of this - I would just LOVE to get back to football eventually.

For those for who that was too long... the summation: the jumper IS a marketing logo. To say you don't care about the marketing logo, only the jumper, is to miss the point. Everything aesthetic is a marketing logo, and used solely for the purpose of attracting customers. Member consultation isn't an outcome, it's an sales tactic.

If I understand you right, what you're saying is that the logo is the same as say the golden arches of McDonald's? If so, I would argue that the concept is not directly transferable to the GUERNSEY logo.

I attach humanistic and personal feelings towards or with the lions guernsey logo.
I attach basic associations towards or with the McDonald's arches.

If the 'PP' design was used for marketing/promotion extraneous to the guernsey design my feelings would probably be closer to the latter of the above rather than the former.

This is how I interpreted what you said but I'm a bit of a derp.
