He'll be 30 this time next year and will be worth way more to you guys than what you will get in trade. You needed to move him after 2015.

I'd be backing him to regain form and punch out 2-3 years of high level play rather than taking pick 40 or whatever you would get for him. Might be enough to catch the start of your upswing.

No chance he's traded.

Should have traded him at the end of 2016. Not worth a lot now.
Yep. Unfortunate decline. He seems to be a player that gets infringed upon quite often but when low on confidence/form he looks pathetic and gets killed.

Same thing happened to free kick chasers Lindsay and Swallow.

Were okish then became laughably bad relying on frees and bad coaching.

He only needs to look at Sam Jacobs..a few years back Goldy was ahead of Jacobs and there is not much age difference between them. Maybe he can reinvigorate and get back towards the level he was once at. We (crows) thought Jacobs was cooked at the end of 2016 after the final series, yet he came back last year and along with Kreuzer was the best ruck in the league (considering he towelled up Ryder both times the teams played) so it is a blueprint he could follow

Goldy seems to be relying on technical efficiency over any actual footballing ability or grunt, which sees him get bent over regularly.

It's well known Brad Scott likes to juice the rules and umpires... unfortunately for our soulless little coach and members, he gets found out more often then not and can completely ruin his players. The sports science and exploitation is basically everything to little Brad.

Thomas left in shame and Swallow embarrassed.

Watching the game last week, there's concerns Goldstein and Brown will be coached into short term fame before quickly embarrassing themselves out the door. North players under Brad have hot 'months' more than years or careers and some of it seems to stem from trying to use the umpires and playing for contracts.

You think you would have only got pick 40 in the 2016 off season? He was an all Australian ruckman the year prior.

An AA ruckman in the 1st year of a new 4 year contract is never going to be traded on the back of one down season.

Not sure beating an opponant makes you better than them.

Gibson >>> Solane if that is the case.

Also you have put a bit of mayo on Jacobs toweling up Ryder both times:

Round 3
Ryder:11 disposals 48 hit outs 4 marks
Jacobs: 9 disposals 42 hit outs 4 marks

BEST
Port Adelaide: Wines, Ryder, Ebert, Byrne-Jones, Hartlett, Boak
Adelaide: Sloane, Douglas, Walker, Otten, Laird, Lynch, Knight

You would have gotten a top 10 pick for him. Missed opportunity.

You were at the very start of a long rebuild and he was about the only player in your list worth anything of note. He was never going to play in a flag at the club. Could have been a great kick start to the rebuild.

If we were thinking that way we wouldn't have given him a 4 year contract as the highest paid player at the club.

Everyone's a genius in hindsight.

Hindsight has nothing to do with it actually as I said the exact same thing at the time. It was obvious which way you were heading but instead of trading the one guy that had currency you retired a heap of old guys that you got nothing for in return.

He wouldn’t had been the first contracted player to be traded that’s for sure.

So you should have got rid of Nick Reiwoldt at the end of 2012? You would have got something decent at the start of your rebuild. He was never going to play in a flag after 2012.

We did get rid of Goddard and Dal Santo remember (both all Australians) as well as McEvoy.

No doubt you need to keep some leadership which is why we kept him and Joey. You still have plenty of old blokes on your list, and forced some into retirement. Goldstein is a questionable character.

I don't think having Pruess (not ready) & Daw (not up to it) as our only rucks would have been wise.

Questionable a character? Thoughts on the Saints keeping Milne and Montagna?

No one was giving us a top ten draft pick for either of those two at the start of our rebuild.

Pruess showed he’s up to it last year.
He can’t ruck 90% of game time like Goldy. He doesn’t have the tank of Goldy and you run the risk with Brown in the ruck.

Also we drafted Pruess in 2015. What year you think we are getting a top 10 pick for Goldy?

The post 2015 scenarios that were to eventuate after the 2016 injury toll took place could not have been foretold.

Fantastic rebuttle there, Bill. Very much enjoyed that.
