Unfair for Russian athletes who have done nothing wrong to be banned from competing, trained for years and cant enter Olympics even though they haven't failed a test.

It just looks like the whole country is in denial over their institutional doping and cheating. It’s all unfair and Russia is being picked on for a teeny tiny bit of doping. :)

Anyway I’m no expert on any of this.

The modern pentathlon is based around the idea of a soldier fighting behind enemy lines - hence the fencing, shooting and using an unfamiliar horse.
The modern Pentathlon has a historic basis. It is based upon the concept of a soldier delivering a message during a battle. The soldier has to run, swim, fight a sword battle, shoot a gun and ride a horse. For a long time it was only open to soldiers (commissioned officers, actually). A soldier in an army just gets whichever horse is available.

George Patton competed in 1912. (He claimed he got robbed during the shooting).

*EDIT*
Damn you FP!!!!!

They should be allowed to take prisoners, or have he host nation roll out some prisoners and let the competitor shoot them

Just read up on why Russia is still competing. Amazing. Massive organised doping system, the IOC still allow them to compete, and the Russians are all hurt they can’t play their national anthem :D
I thought that athletes had to prove they weren't involved in the doping to compete for ROC. So I would get then if a few athletes could compete who were based overseas (e.g. in track and field, or a Sharapova type player based in the US), but I don't get how a whole water polo team for example can prove they weren't involved.

I can't understand why they appear on the medal tally if they compete as individuals
Wrote this in the general thread the day before Olympics started - but have added a couple of sentences in italics.

Russia can't compete as Russia - are competing as ROC - Russian Olympic Committee.

Meant to post this the other day when someone asked about Russians swimming. Seb Coe and World Athletics have made them compete as ANA - Authorised Neutral Athletes.

However looks like IOC have overruled them and they are coming up as ROC on all official records and listing. Will need to see next year at the World Athletics Champions if Coe sticks to his guns calling them ANA's.

Russia was expected to compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, now postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.[2] It would have been the country's seventh consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics as an independent nation, but their athletes will be entered by and represent the “Russian Olympic Committee” and use the acronym “ROC” for a country name. All public displays of the organisation’s participant name should use the acronym “ROC”, not “Russian Olympic Committee”.

On 19 February 2021, it was announced that Russia would compete under the acronym, "ROC" after the name of the Russian Olympic Committee although the name of the committee itself in full could not be used to refer to the delegation. In Athletics, no more than 10 Authorised Neutral Athletes (ANA) will be granted by World Athletics to the Russian Olympic Committee. Russia would be represented by the flag of the Russian Olympic Committee. It would also be allowed to use team uniforms bearing the word "Russian" provided that the term "Neutral Athletes" would be added.[6]

On 15 April 2021, the uniforms for the neutral Russian athletes were unveiled.[7][8] On 22 April 2021, the replacement for Russia's anthem was approved by the IOC, after an earlier choice of the Russian folk song "Katyusha" was rejected. A fragment of Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 will be used.

When do we get the post modern pentathlon
What would that be based on? A modern spy?

1. Fly a stolen F-25.
2. Shoot with a laser rifle over 2 kms.
3. Crack a cipher code using a computer hidden in your watch.
4. Win a million Euros at Blackjack.
5. Shag a glamorous Russian.

Or is it PostModern?
1. Publish a withering critique the host country's societal norms.
2. Ironically miss all shots at the target.
3. Argue that by missing all shots you have really won, because 'truth' is a variable.
4. Cretae a new musical genre that will become popular in 10-15 years.
5. Paint your bedroom black.

Men's and women's K-4 500m races on soon and looks like on 7mate.

In the women's Aussie girls will do well to get 5th and New Zealand champ Lisa Carrington going for her 4th gold medal at this games in the 4 kayak classes for women. There are 2 canoe classes for women.

Men's k-4 team are a big chance for a medal. Spain looked really good in their SF.

Eastern Europeans dominate that race and New Zealand got 4th. Think the Aussie girls got 6th.

Oh well 3 out 4 ain't bad for Carrington.

Looked tough in the wind and rain at Sea Forest Waterway

Why are Hungary so good at kayaking?
same sort of reason Australia are good at swimming or hockey - history, tradition, long time doing the sport, good infrastructure and good development programs.
