A bizarre rule in modern pentathlon has left an athlete in tears, after she plummeted from the gold medal position to last place.
Germany's Annika Schleu was leading the modern pentathlon - comprised of fencing, swimming, show jumping, shooting and running - heading into the jumping event.
Yet in modern pentathlon, athletes don't ride their own horses for show jumping. Instead, they get just 20 minutes to bond with an unfamiliar horse that they're assigned for the competition.

Kayaking is done on rivers and lakes. They have plenty of them. They don't do much rowing.
After USA, Oz, and East German women, they are the next most successful swimming nation at the Olympics. Water Polo they are also pretty good, the most successful nation at the Olympics as they have plenty of pools. They hosted the FINA world Aquatics championships in 2017 and will again in 2027.
They have won more gold medals than Australia have going into this Olympics, about 30 more. They punch above their weight for a nation of 10 million or so.
They were a significant part of the Austro-Hungarian empire that ruled a big chunk of Eastern Europe for 50 years or so before WWI.
