I agree bring in Clinton Young :drunk:

Slow, laconic, poor decision making, poor disposal, out of form, are some of the labels given to Langdon, and yet this doesn't seem to worry the some people, astonishing, considering such a open season, this year is up for grabs, make no mistake, do people think that Bucks is thinking ahh maybe we might make the 8 and maybe win a final, ****s no, the pies are in it up to their ears, If guys like Langdon, are not up to it, rearrange the furniture now, get it right for September. Reid in, make Oxley sweeper, make room for greenwood give Sharenberg a taste, play De gooey, Broomhead, Kennedy every week, the pies will surprise some of you.

Langdon out

Reid in
Greenwood in

Get it working for September.

Yeah.... by complete morons like yourself!!

Oh but he had 25 possessions (most of them went sideways about 20m) and took 9 marks (0 contested, from sideways kicks) so he MUST stay in the team.

Don't think people using that argument even watched the game because he had zero influence and provided zero rebound. Doesn't have the speed to break the lines nor the penetration in his kicking to be damaging by foot. Hes just not gonna make it.

5 rebound 50's.... 5>0.
Seriously, how do you use a keyboard without a functioning brain? Do you blow into a straw to make the letters?

It's not just the one clanger though - he usually has several gob-smacking clangers (or makes really, REALLY bad decisions where he sells a team mate directly into trouble) pretty much every week and a lot of them lead to goals (or good shots on goal at least).

He has also fallen into a really bad habit of doing the traditional "make a circle with the ball just before you kick it" thing (not sure how else to describe it) three times before most longer kicks that opposition players have learned to read - it makes you chase that little bit harder when you know that an opponent is going to be a bit slow disposing of the ball.

I have at times yelled at players around him to talk when he gets picked off (via the telly of course which we all know is the most effective way to get into a player's head), but now it's becoming apparent that he currently doesn't have a great deal of spatial awareness when it comes to the players around him - hell sometimes an opponent will be right with him in the initial marking or loose ball contest, but when he gathers he seems to stroll away casually as if they were never there and nobody could possibly be chasing him.

I don't really pay much attention to disposal efficiency when a lot of those kicks are sideways making a pointless attempt to switch when it isn't on, a cheap short kick or handball to get himself out of trouble and put someone else in it (the very definition of an effect disposal nowadays is one that finds its way into the hands of a team mate regardless of how hard they had to work to get it), or a poorly directed longer kick that doesn't favour a teammate (admittedly he is certainly not alone in that respect).

He seems to be lacking a considerable amount of confidence compared to last year and, while he still does do some good things, the mistakes are starting to pile up and he seems to be struggling to get to the right spots defensively a lot of the time. I note with amusement that people on this board lambast players like Tooves and Marley for making similar gaffs with their decision making and/or disposal so, while I am still very much a fan of Langdon and what he brings to the table (and think he has a very bright future), I don't think he is immune to similar criticism and that perhaps a spell in the two's might help him regain a bit of that confidence and form he showed last year.

It might very well be a case of second year blues (although he's not as bad as he was when he hit the wall in the last third of the 2014 season), but he certainly hasn't been anywhere near as smooth or effective as he was when he burst onto the scene last year.

Maybe he reads the forums.

Yeah kicking the ball outside defensive 50 and providing actual effective rebound are two totally different things. I don't expect you to have any idea though. Not surprised.

. But he isn't frazzled and wants to use the ball properly.

Imo, he is the best rebounding defender we have groomed since Heath Shaw.

No where near Heater in 06 when he had that great break out year. Heater was a star and got duded for rising star, Poised, aggressive, leader and match winner all from the half back line. Langdon would be no where near the level that heater produce at that point of his career. Langdon is on the nose of some observers, It really stands out when the heat is on, the pies have chance this year to do something amazing, believe it or not, this is both a time to be smart in blending in youth at the same time satisfying the guys who have the experience and class to get the job done. Go ask pendles or cloke or Swan if the pies are rebuilding.

Piqued my interest... but statistically there's actually sweet FA in it...

I have no issue with Langdon being dropped, as with other think he has not achieved to the high standard he has set himself last year. Think he is a definite keeper and will have a long career, but feel a rest in the magoos may do him the world of good.

Of course that's assuming we have a ready made replacement. Would love to see Scharenberg get a run.

Statistically he's actually doing better, being asked more questions (forward, midfield) by the coaches and selectors as well.

he is the only one in that boat. I was going to create a post about a bad habit our defenders are getting into. Namely Frost / Williams Langdon. they don't line their body up with the ball and a scared of contact. although Toovey is a terrible Kick he always puts his body behind the ball.

Yeah, pet hate of mine but nothing to do with being scared. See it all the time when players try to spoil and end up overshooting their opponent. We were always taught to take the body in those contested situations and at a minimum you get a draw out of the contest and keep the opponent and ball in front of you.

But I think it's the brave new world of footy where players are taught to position themselves favourably for what they need to do next rather than here and now.

Why is that?

It seems all a bit of seeing negative things with Langdon that don't really exist. I think it's because he is taking a fraction longer than we would like to see when he disposes. It can be heart in mouth stuff. But it rarely results in the negative disposal we have seen discussed. Maybe he fact that he gets so damn much of it also helps lead to an impression of putting himself under pressure. Maybe if he was more like Brown who gets it and bombs it long but doesn't take a great deal of risk, people would be less worried. Even if the benefit isn't there. Langdon does get involved in a lot of scoring chains from the back line.

Really solid. Didn't put a foot wrong. 80% DE again backing up his form.
Elliott 3 Goal assists all to Cloke! So much fun.

"so much fun" I think that is spot on our players all look much happier this season than they have for sometime,I also think there may a bit of pressure for spots.
All looking quite nice really:thumbsu:.

20 disposals, 80%DE and some great spoils and rebound out of the backline

But considering the blinder he played last week still had people calling for his head, I can't imagine this thread will get much better.

Was good today. Happy to be proven wrong! Much better than previous weeks.

Wicksy, you should try going to game - it's a lot of fun.

Good to see that you are prepared to admit you were wrong.

I stand by my observation - he was ordinary prior to yesterday. Hopefully he's turned it around. Played well on a up and coming forward line, let's see how he goes against Freo.
