Well someone had to acknowledge that this kid is really starting to show what the club sees in him!

I see glimpses of Hilly for sure, he is an elite runner, can kick whilst running at full pelt, clever with his vision.

Yeah sure he needs to get more of the ball and is not strong enough over the ball yet (but not bad considering), but another preseason and I think we could be looking at a first 22 player on merit.

Plus the Boss can see the talent in him (he who does not develop talent), even talking up his potential finals appearance.

You can never have to many midfielders with kicking skills and real speed - just ask West Coast:thumbsu:

Sign him up now.

There's the rub. Considering how we've talked him up, I'm surprised we haven't sewn him up. This can only mean that the boy is not convinced and despite getting game is keen to be traded back to Victoria.

Merged the Toast threads.

After watching the T-Train on the replay, I was plesantly suprised with how well he tracked back in defending and smooth his was in the contested situation (albeit against Melbourne's midfield)

Like it has been mentioned, from a distance he moved like Hilly when streaming through the midfield. I like the cut of his jib. :thumbsu:

To be fair Viney is a level above Sheridan as you would expect from a kid that would have gone pick 1 or close if he was in the draft not father son.

Yet based on Melbourne's recent development record, Viney will probably be kicking dew in the seconds by this time next year (by which time the whole league will be circling).

Well gee, maybe because Sheridan has been developed the way a young player should, playing at a lower level for a year and a half, learning the game style, coming on as a sub, not being tagged.
As opposed to thrown in the deep end from game one as a skinny 18 year old and being monstered by the best stopper the oppo has from about game 10.

Agree, poor Hilly has been tagged from day 1

The only picks above Melbourne last year were GWS and GC and GWS got Melbournes first pick anyway.
Yep, and they both had the opportunity to offer their picks to take him which would've made Melbourne use pick 3 to take him. Instead they didn't and Melbourne took Jimmy Toumpas...
Jeez they coulda used Ollie Wines this year. :D

errr...

I don't think you get it. GC traded their first for a mini-draft pick and so did Melbourne. If GWS forced them to use their first pick for Viney then GWS wouldn't have been able to get pick 3.

They were able to use their 2nd round pick because the other pick they had was a compensation pick for Scully leaving and doesn't come into father son concessions.

So I forgot GC traded their pick for Martin, and that Melb had pick 4 as compo, from memory did FS bidding happen before or after they traded for Hogan? It was all so messy. All I remember is GWS could've bidded pick 1 for Viney.

Yeah, but the point is that if GWS did bid pick 1 for Viney, they would have missed out on pick 3. It was basically draft tampering, call it a gentleman's agreement where GWS said, "Hey bro, if we don't bid for Vinedog at 1, you promise us you'll trade pick 3 to us? Kool. you arright dawg."

I doubt they are hip hop 'gangstas' chillin out while concocting draft deals.
