Hawkins and Selwood were the ones that kept Geelong in it, both have been big time players for a long time and will continue to be. Hawkins however is the more likeable guy.

absolute plonker.English please.
Spot on. He's kicked a bag or two against lesser teams like GWS and the media believe he's a 50+ goal forward. He's an AA CHB, and that's where he is going to play.Taylor's ability as a forward is a myth. He is a brilliant key back, and that's where he'll stay

Matthew Pavlich finals stats: averages 15 disposals, 3 goals and 2 contested marks per game. Kicked 3 or more goals in 6 of his 12 appearances. Probably one of the best going around. Do you remember the 2012 elimination final?
Hawkins was unstoppable, but I thought Brad Scott should have had an extra man down there to stand in front of Hawkins. Said the same thing to my mrs while watching last night. Hawkins was always going to be the one that could hurt them. In the last quarter in particular, when protecting a lead they needed to make sure he didn't get one on one's. Neither Grima or Thompson were strong enough to outbody him. They needed help but got none.
Huge performance from Hawkins all the same.
[/QUOTE]Yep, he backed it up the following week with 6 kicks, 4 handballs and a goal in a 10 point loss with 93% game time.
I remember the '13 GF. His lack of composure, including not getting the journey from about 30m in the second quarter, imo, went a long way to costing his team a flag. He wasn't on his own, but as captain, he was poor.
He had a big hand in getting them back into it in the 2nd half, which you'll no doubt bring up but the damage was done in the first half and he failed to stand up and lead his team.

What is your definition of a 'great last quarter effort'? Perhaps if he 'shape shifts' next time?Hawkins was the dominant player in the last quarter but it was hardly "one of the great last quarter efforts".

Best from our mob was Petrie kicking 5 in 20 min against Richmond in the last in 2012 to win it for us.It was a good effort, no doubt. But is it one of the best ever? I don't think so.

Hawkins was better, because he absolutely monstered a top 6 team in the space of 10 minutes. Was just making a point to Enigmal.Half of Junktime Jack Riewoldts goals come when either the match is over (easy Tigers win or big Tigers loss), or v shit teams that he can beat up on (i.e. 11 v GWS with no Davis, Mohr, Haynes, Frost..)
While that was a big game to decide the finals match-up, Hawkins was is in a final. And was in the poorer team for the night - whereas North were a better team than Richmond in that backhalf of 2012.

Lucjliky they will get to remember the last quarter of the 2011 GF against your team!Nobody remembers great performances in losing games will be forgotten about in a couple of years
