Top 7 Defenders of 2009

Just wondering people's opinions on Birchall and if he is close to top 7 defenders when fully fit? Especially with the injuries Hawthorn have.

Dont think he will be top 7. Should average 80-85, his main selling point was his durability.

My backline is pretty much done:

Goddard, Cornes, Fisher, Waite, Bock, Hodge, Houlihan (Hurley, Cheney)

In a bit of trouble thanks to Bock, Hodgey and Hoops. Confident in all those players though, hopefully wont have to change anything till seasons end.

Whats the deal with Hurley? I havent heard him mentioned much. He isn't on the injury list anymore i don't think and with essendons backs at the moment you would have to suggest he would be getting a game. Anyone?

Goddard, Fisher, Mundy, Adcock, Houlihan, Geary, Hill

Ideally, I would like to upgrade Houlihan, Geary and Hill, but trades may not allow me to do this. At least 2 should go though.

Played a half for Bendigo. Will be a good downgrade target in a few weeks.

Bowden would be number 1 if he played 22 games this year no doubt.

I guarentee you he will get dropped at some stage. Whether it is this week against Port Adelaide, or when a new coach arrives.

I want him to keep his spot obviously because I have him and he is a kick & Mark machine, but i think he deserves his spot I genuinely think he gives his all for Richmond and despite having 35 disposals last week he had a stinker and he won't play a game that badly again.

Attacks are now commonly set-up from half-back and if you want to beat defensive zones, you need to run or kick accurately over or through the zone (predominantly into the corridor). Bowden consistently takes the easy option of kicking wide to no-man's land. This is why his position is in doubt and why a player like Raines is sorely missed by the Tigers.

I actually think with the way the game is being played, Bowden would be a good player on the ball and in the forward line. He is a big body and knows how to find the pill so they could do worse than play Bowden in the centre.

My shitehouse backs:

Goddard, Fisher, Hodge, Mackie, Newman Raines, Hill. (Petrenko, Broughton)

If Hill can keep his good form up i might go Hill-->Grimes.

interesting to see hardly any mention of scotland. has had a pretty quite start to the year but has still averaged 88 and looked great last week with 35 touches and 109 points. has averaged over 100 twice 104(in 06) and 100 (in 07) as well as 90 last year so is definetly in the premium category. i think by average he will be in the top 4 or 5 and i reckon he will average 90-95. is only 372k this week so is definetly at a nice price for an upgrade. has a be of 92 this week so you would probably wana jump aboard this week or next. what are peoples thoughts on scotland?

Definately on my radar. I will be looking to upgrade Hill to him once Hill peaks

you take the high road, and I'll take the low road. And I'll get to Scotland before ye. Out Rancid, in Scotland.

(Tell me why) I dont like Mundy. But I'll trade him in anyway. Breakout season.

I dont agree that Bowden will definitely get dropped or Gilbert will tail off. Gilberts a definite keeper for mine. If this is Bowden's last year he deserves to play out the season. He's a DT legend. Anything could happen at Richmond - including them catching fire when its almost too late and finishing 9th.

david mundy top 7 defenders anyone??

averging 92, and averaging 108 in last 3 rounds.

my top 7 i think would be (on overall points come season end)

Chad Cornes
Lockyer
Sam Fisher
Bowden
Goddard
Mundy
Mackie/Enright

history shows us goddard will miss a game or 2 this year. (not saying it will, just working on averages).

and the chances of bowden being dropped are likely.

Considering this thread was about end of year averages, your post is a little off.

But point taken on Mundy. He has paid off handsomely for those that chose him (6k?).

Dont rate Waite? Flying so far this year.
Waite's a great DT'er, but you can only name so many players in a top 7 (7, in fact :p). Top four are fairly obvious choices, doubt many would leave out Goddard, Lockyer, Bowden or Cornes. Mundy and Ellis have the distinct advantage of being midfielders named in the backline, and should score accordingly. That leaves one spot that could be filled by 10 players.

I've had Mundy in my team from the start, and am pretty bloody happy with his output. Also have Schammer, which was a bit risky I suppose, but he's lifted his output by 20ppg to average 90+ this year. Can't complain, faarking.

this is my first yr of DT for a couple years...but are these 7 players the players these coaches plan on having in their final squad?? cause i find that unrealistic..although i maybe wrong..

lockyer, cornes, birchall, fisher, Ryder, Mcphee, Hill, (hodge, raines)

this will be my backline after this week...and doubt i will be changing it from this (injuries aside)

Just the highest scoring players, not necessarily the ones you'll end up with (tough obviously having a backline with 7 premiums would be nice).
