Petracca is the difference maker. Without him Melbourne's form line has been close to bottom 4.

Oliver you can afford to lose, in fact it may even help in the long run.
Oliver being nowhere near his best, or even close to it, is the biggest reason. Petracca played when we lost to Freo by 100. We lost 4 of the last 5 games with Petracca.

Your comment about bottom 4 is so ill informed. We lost to Port by 2 points, Brisbane by 5 points, GWS by 2 points. That's 2 top 4 teams, and Brisbane at the Gabba so essentially 3 top 4 teams. A simple bounce of the ball our way, and we're sitting in 5th.

Don't get me wrong, I think we need to rebuild so I'd be more than happy to get rid of Oliver, Petracca and Viney and I have no idea why we're keen on Houston.

Look at where Melbourne's % ranks and you'll see that they are where they deserve to be on the ladder, or could even be lower.

However, why give up that easily as far as the next 2-3 years?

A premiership and winning 2 other finals (making it to the prelim final stage twice in total) is a bit "unders" for an era.

Surely there's a bit more juice that can be squeezed out of the orange until more of the '21 premiership stars are retired.

What are you saying though, we're 13th, but should also try and win another flag in the next couple of years?

We're not in the premiership window, so rip it all down and hit the draft as far as I'm concerned.

I'm just looking from your perspective as a few months ago you considered Melbourne in the premiership window. Bad form, injuries, coaching mistakes etc can happen. There's still a lot of premiership stars and none of them are 35 or anything.

But if you've moved on from that idea fair enough. I think we will look back at that list as under achieving. They should've been capable of at least making another grand final when we resumed normal seasons.

Yeah but you would need to be bold to get Trac. Its the move the shoots them to premiership favouritism next year, however long term Melbourne probably win that trade.

Its all a risk.
I just think that Carlton's midfield would benefit more from TDK than Petracca. Not that he's a better player, but their midfield with Pittonet and Petracca, would not be as good as their midfield is with TDK and without Petracca IMO.

Flags are hard to win. We won a flag, we were unlucky to not win last year. Extremely narrow losses to Collingwood and Carlton with Brayshaw going down in the first quarter/Van Rooyen getting suspended etc.

But since 2021 we lost Luke Jackson, a humongous loss, then we had Mac Andrew stolen from us by the AFL. Any of these 2 things don't happen and I believe we win last years flag. But yeah, it's just bad luck.

He'll have to stay.

Poor blighter.

Of course we all know which club he'd rather be at.

He was sent back on the field with an incredibly serious injury. He will have no trust in the club's medicos, and he's said he and his family have been really rattled by it. I'm guessing at least some of the people close to him would have asked if the club failed in their duty of care? And if so... if he had a case... couldn't he walk for that reason alone? I'm genuinely asking and don't know how that works.

If they moved TDK they would 100% bring in another Ruck immeidately.

Ned Moyle springs to mind.

The moment he was injured and out for the year where are Melbourne now?
Were they contending prior? Had they been in recent years? Your original contention that Petraca instantly transforms St Kilda and the like into premiership fancies is well off the mark IMO.

Well for us we can get Trac for Will Phillips Swap and pick 2+ pick 23. But also did hear Viney was wandering around Arden St. Would Rather Trac by a mile.

The uninjured one yet but with a serious rib injury? I just don't want that to be a dan hannebury type farce.

Viney makes more sense, like dal santo coming over as an experienced mid but we are not nearing the 8, perhaps in 2026, 27, we will be around the mark to get a few free agents in.

Would Richmond throw everything at him, especially with what they are looking at trading out?

Doesn’t really suit either party.

He is leaving a sinking ship, doesn’t want to hop on another one that is already at the bottom of the ocean.

We need injection of top talent from the draft. His window is the next 3 seasons, not in 5 plus.

If Collingwood get a few to retire and get some cap space, I can imagine them having a crack. No idea where they get the draft capital.

Pies would seem like the best place for him, but don’t think we would be able to satisfy the Dees.
