You can make an argument that he is worth a 2nd rounder. Multiple BOG performances, top handful in the Brownlow for the Dogs, coming into his prime and bolstering an area that Saints are shallow in.
You could probably more reasonably argue however that rather than coming into his prime he's regressed and is now depth after being best 22 at the start of the year. We'd be doing very well to get anywhere above a third rounder.

He could be a very handy pickup for the Saints, or he could continue to stagnate. That's why they wouldn't want to give up much for him.

i reckon like some other people have said, Koby Stevens and our 2017 3rd for a Saint Kilda 2017 2nd

Stevens for around Pick 40 would be reasonable. Given Saints trajectory would back in future 3rd Round Pick as Fronk said to be around that mark

He was injured mid year, wasn't he? Prior to that he had 6 votes in the Brownlow and was firmly in the best 22. Struggled to come back from injury but did finish the year well, with 29 touches in the VFL GF.

He also has another suitor in Essendon, suggesting he has market value. But of course, once the player nominates a single club, it's all over. **** this player power.

shenton or templeton maybe?

Yeah, but his votes were in big wins against Carlton (1), Brisbane (3) and GC (2). He had a couple of months where he was right in the 22, but other than that he's been borderline VFL-AFL at the Dogs in recent years (he played 12 games in both 2015 and 2016), and finished the year out of the side. That's not going to get you much on the trade table - for comparison, we got him for pick 44 at the end of 2014 after he'd played a handful of games at the Eagles and was drafted at pick 22. I wouldn't think his value is much higher than at the time of that trade.

We will get bugger all for him as he's out of contract. 3rd rounder at best with maybe a 4th rnd upgrade.
If Hamling wants to go I wouldn't expect more than a 3rd either for the same reason.

Comparing free agency guys and the stupid returns they are getting (and rather high contracts)is pointless. The only reason they are getting such picks is the destination clubs front end contracts high to push value up.
In coming years more and more players will be moved on with a year left on contracts to gain fair value. anyone coming out of contract drops a draft round IMO

Stevens will be the Saints second or third best mid. Think about that.

He's a good player. Strong chance many here will have to eat their words next year.

I'd personally like him to do as well as Steven.

And then I can say that they've got even Stevens.

Hes a brute no doubt...not a great kick of the footy though.

A good sign for our club that we saw the potential in jong over stevens.

Older school football brains probably would have gone the other way.

I think he has copped a bit of a raw deal from a bunch of people here but at the same time he just hasn't really progressed. Every time he plays a good game he cops an injury or has a poor one the next week. Think he's a good pickup for the Saints but don't think he'll be their second or third best mid.

Yep Saints getting a bargain IMO.

Where's the pick 50 talk coming from? I would've thought a second round pick would be about right- they're offering him 450k for 4 years. We gave up pick 26 for crameri when we paid him that much, and that was said to be unders. Free agents being paid that much have netted second round picks. Honestly, if it was pick 50 on offer, I'd make him walk to the PSD- pick 50 is barely worth anything anyway. I'm pretty sure they'd end up giving a second rounder rather than missing out on him.

They are what?!?! $1.8M over 4 years for Stevens...you sure about that??
