Strategy Trade and List Management thread 4 (Be sure to huddle around your transitor radio at 11 am Edition)

Is the Stringer situation beyond repair?

  • The club clearly want him out the door.

  • This was just a shot across Jakes bow as a means of motivating him.

  • The club is clearly a rabble. Sack Macca!

  • This is just the first play in massive trade that we are not yet privy to.

  • This is a game of blink and Jake and Conners just blinked.

  • Its time to move on a negotiate the best deal we can.

  • I felt sad for Jake on that stage today.

  • We've warned you about creating polls Norm!

  • The Jack 'Armageddon option' Watts option

Hey Saints fan here, Lonie is a midget but a forward he is not.

He has next to no goal sense and struggles to kick the ball 30 metres from a set shot (he had a set shot from about 20 metres out where he didn't make the distance).

He's a good little in and under midfielder who will get crushed in the the AFL so we play him as a forward.

I suspect if he stays as a midfielder than VFL is his level but as a forward a lot of work to do.

I like him cause he's a campaigner but eh, he worth less than what we paid for Koby last year

Just what we don't need, another undersized midfielder when everyone else is getting bigger. It was always a big no from me to Lonie (like I have any say).

Stinger to Norf for Goldstein
Dahl to Geelong for Stanley
Libba to Hawks for Vickery

Solves all our ruck problem in one swoop!

While we are at it Bont to the saints for Hickey

Bang!!!! Best ruck division ever.

Trade Campbell to the cats for Motlop

Then move Motlop Honey and Jong into the midfield and we dominate for years to come.

Doesn't matter coz Bev won and flag last year and he has a golden ticket forever so who cares how we go

Calm down MD haha

We signed a majority of our young stars, so the club is doing something very right. It's just this small minority it seems. Beveridge is a smart dude and had a very successful career thus far that is why I am trusting him with this. Peter Gordon is an egotistical and stubborn maniac who bleeds our clubs colours so any decision he helps make would be with the full intention of the betterment of our club. I nervously throw my support behind them. This is the last post I'm making on this topic, I'm tired of it.

Why can't we ever experience sustained success without this crap happening?

Calm down. Nothing's happened yet.

Nobody said the path from being irrelevant nobodies (2012-14) to becoming a dynastic overdog was an easy one.
We won a flag last year. That puts us ahead of about half the clubs in the comp. Winning 3-4 of them over a decade is a big ask of any club, but especially one that has had no success for over 60 years.

This is why embedding the right culture at every level in the club is important no matter how much people poo-poo it. We're better placed to do that than we have been at any time in my life.

Stay positive.

our club culture...
and which is the reason we went 62 years without a premiership
Is it our culture do you think that we are not accepting mediocre training and attitude standards which is exactly what's happened this year with a small group of players? We have reached the pinnacle last year and just like most of our supporters, it will take us some time to come down from that high. Unfortunately for the players, the club and coach won't accept that the players are part of that supported group (us).

I think our club culture from the past would have just accepted that from the playing group and tried to sweep it under the carpet. I don't think this group of people (mostly the coach) running the club now will allow this to happen.

I am disappointed also to hear the amount of players who havnt taken well to some home truths and also of the talk of players like Stringer leaving, but I was bloody more disappointed during the year to see so many of the senior playing group have sub par years compared to the previous 2.

At this stage, with the amount of information we have been given on the topic, I support Beveridge and the people running the team / club.

What is McCartney's contract situation?

It seems completely unprofessional to have a list manager who could have one foot out the door overseeing such significant player movements for our team.

Especially when he could just as quickly be shifting to a role at another AFL club.

The minute Bob steps out the door...
Depends what you're alluding to.

Whatever happened (or didn't happen) during 2017, it was under his watch.

I reckon it's a great time for a handover to a new skipper. Different challenges require a different type of captain.

Unfortunately I agree, and it set a bad example for the young players. Perhaps they accepted a premiership hangover was “okay”

But who knows what happened behind closed doors, but from what others are saying they wernt demanding enough on themselves as well as the younger group. lack of leadership principles

If we want this club to have sustained success, we must establish a new culture and be hard but fair.
We cannot afford this piss this premiership success away, or we can fall to dark times very soon

Dont go there... for the love of god man, dont go there
Interesting development... comes as a real suprise to me... logged back in when I heard SEN comment on Dahl..

To stay on thread topic.. would be really interesting topic from a List Mgmt persepctive would be to see what the likes of Stringer, Dahl & Liberatore are worth.

They are all Top 5 players in our team when on.. the mind boggles how suitable value can be sought to keep us progressing forward.

Dare I say I really hope Josh Kelly is well in our sights.. we would be down on some serious talent if even one of these 3 are on the outer..

I'm bracing for the worst here. This is gonna get worse before it gets better. Rumours of star players wanting out is a bitter pill to swallow no matter how disappointed they make you feel.

Where there is smoke there is fire I feel on this one.

Schache looks to have actually packed up his entire house and left, so looks like he is available. IF Stringer goes, do we make a move?

Say, Stringer to St Kilda for Pick 7?

Then Pick 9 to Brisbane for Schache and Pick 18?

Then, IF the rumours of Goldstein are actually true, Pick 26 and Campbell for Goldstein and a swap of our 2018 2nd and 3rd round picks. They obviously pay some salary too.

All in all:
IN: Pick 7, Pick 18, Pick 39, Schache, Goldstein, Trengove
OUT: Stringer, Campbell, Murphy, Moyd, Hamilton, Honeychurch

FB: Morris, Trengove, Wood
HB: Biggs, Cordy, JJ
C: Hunter, Wallis, Macrae
HF: Dale, Toyd, Daniel
FF: Dickson, Schache, Dahl
R: Goldstein, Bont, Maclean
Int: Suckling, Libba, Williams, Picken

I'd also look at moving Cloke on and replacing his spot on the list with a speedy forward.
