Prefer Cox who English can split the job 50/50 with.
Give me current day Dean Cox over either

Tend to agree. If Power came out yesterday and said he’s contracted blah blah, I’d understand but talking about how valued he is and how the club sees him as a long term player only to trade him, isn’t a great look.

IF WE DO THIS

As a footy player I think Josh is a big loss, I won’t diminish him as a player because he wants out. But he have now said several times NOT HAPPENING so that’s the path

Anything else is weak management.

Josh has clearly now requested a trade because the club have said we aren’t trading you Josh.

Now send him a message saying see you at pre season and ignore Essendons calls.

MAKE A F&CKING STAND AND DO EXACTLY WHAT YOU SAID YOU WOULD and win or loss I will be proud as sh!t we didn’t act like a minnow club

NO we don’t

I honestly believe from the info I have we are going to have to fight off massive offers for Bont(Tigers) Smith(Hawks) and Naughts(Eagles) in the next year or so and making this deal makes all of them far easier to other clubs as we have set a precedence.

Or makes it harder as we keep more funds in the warchest

That may be true but you don’t let a known positive go unless you are sure you can cover him

And I believe a guy like Dunks leaning the club is simply not just for money. He doesn’t seem that kind of bloke.

As I’ve said from day one we said no deal from the first second so we have to stay that line
"Just for money"
Really? There must be something else because it's only money? He couldn't possibly want to accept $250/300/350K a year extra to what he was making by merely working for a different organisation. It must be because he was deeply unhappy!
He would have to be an idiot to not accept that offer, and there are very, very few AFL players who wouldn't do the same.
In the unlikely event that I received the same offer I would do it in a heartbeat, and I wouldn't care if it was Essendon or the Baghdad Bombers. SHOW ME THE MONEY!

I think that most on here recognise that Dunkley is surplus to our needs and that if we could turn him into a quality key back or small forward it would benefit the team. The problem is that Essendon have neither of those things and none seem to be available. If we trade Dunkley this year it will be for draft picks and we will be decreasing our standing in the league next year. We feel like we have been getting younger ever since we won the flag and it's getting old. We won a flag with a young list and performed worse in each of the subsequent for years. Losing Dunkley in a vacuum is fine but it's the entire context which makes it so unpalatable. I'd hope that Power is getting in Merrett's ear right now. I don't think Merrett is an upgrade on Dunkley but at least we wouldn't be going backwards or getting younger. Unfortunately for us, breaking even this year is the best outcome we can hope for in the absence of quality players in our areas of need.

Make club statements through Sam Edmund, make Mark Stevens think he's the insider because he's a barracker, and front Power and Baines up to trade radio. Strategy into overdrive.

OFFICIAL CLUB STATEMENT

The Western Bulldogs have been informed by the management of Josh Dunkley of his preference to pursue a trade to the Essendon Football Club.

Josh is a required player at the Bulldogs, who has two years remaining on a contract which was extended by three years in June 2019.

Josh is a premiership player at the Club, he is a member of the leadership group, and he has been a strong and active ambassador for the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation and the Club’s commercial partners.

The Club has been in frequent dialogue with Josh and his management over the past few weeks, and reiterated its intention for him to remain a Western Bulldogs player.

Accordingly, the Bulldogs remain committed to improving our playing list through the Trade Period and the National Draft, to build on back-to-back seasons of playing in the AFL Finals.

100% agree MD. I feel the club’s comments are more than just the usual brinkmanship and I want to know when the trade period ends that my club wasn’t bullshitting.

Merrett would balance our side a lot more than Dunkley. I feel like the same for the Bombers with Dunks. Merrett prob ahead at this point, but Dunks has more in him and better leadership capacity.
They should do it IMO.
Also when he leaves next year in FA they'll only get 1 pick for him anyway, so may as well chuck him in and save next years 1st.

The thing I find most funny about this is that I was the one who started the rumour about the Hawks being into Bailey Smith. It was an obvious pisstake to those who were paying attention, designed to troll some of the casuals and illicit a few bites. Is the person who is feeding you this info the same person who told you that Dunkley was the one who had Stringer kicked out of the club and would never want to play with him?

Many or most of us on this forum were unhappy with Dunkley being used as a part time ruck and forward this season so it's understandable that this is a component of his decision to leave. On the other hand, if his 2020 role has been 'manufactured' in a crazy, Covid-affected season to adjust to circumstances then perhaps Dunkley is using this as an excuse to chase the big bucks. With a bit of patience he may have been able to negotiate a role more acceptable to both him and the coaching staff next season.
I suspect that if he leaves there is going to be a lot of debate, soul-searching and even recriminations within and without the club.
We will need a deal of monumental advantage to us to calm the waters.

I feel you!!!!
But I doubt we will hold to our word, it would be good to see tho!! Because let’s be honest the Bombers will offer a piss week deal for him and then get the media to bash it all day saying how good of deal it is and expect us to fold and agree..... not this time mofo’s

I’m with MD on this - we need to make a stand and not buckle.

It’s about external perception, even if they offered something like 2 future firsts and Merrett, which is well overs, we still say no deal.

This goes to the fabric and strength of the organisation and we are now a strong, well run club.

The Bombers have obviously dangled the cash and Kyle, but the fact he is sooking about his on field role is pretty lame. None of us were happy with him in the ruck but hey, if the coach asks you to do it, you do it. He must have had a falling out with one or some of the other players.

Andrew Dunkley is supposedly not a great bloke and Im sure he is encouraging the move.
