Don't know if this has posted anywhere, but interesting Steve called it a boys club, you would think he had a fair idea what he was talking about.

Yet, Dunkley’s probably had his best year at the club. He’s found a nice balance in the role the coaches have asked him to play. We’ve got too many good mids, so unless you’d prefer some of them to play 2’s, some have had to adapt to playing other roles. In Dunkley’s case, it’s been a success.

I think the club was already pretty keen on giving English ruck minutes, so even though it’s his preferred role, it’s not comparable to any potential issue Dunkley may have.

West was really poor closing out the season, he was rightfully dropped. Obviously needs to work on some things and we should hope he’s mature enough to stay at the club, work on his game and force the coaches hand in selecting him each week.
Potentially putting a trade request in because you can just get handed a game elsewhere is the soft pea heart option and imo says more about the players soft/selfish mentality than what it does about the clubs selection choices.

Williams hasn’t been that bad on the wing since moving there but I just don’t see it. His worst is really bad, and we haven’t seen his best since early last year, before he hurt himself. Not damaging with the ball and not an accumulator. He became a disaster in the backline and his move to the wing might have been to get him out of there just as much as it was to fill that hole (as well as the fact that Richards became much better).

His strength on the wing is probably that he has some experience in the backline so has decent defensive instincts for the position.

But he’s just one of those guys that never gets dropped and made to find form at vfl level. He’s shown promise in the past but has been pretty average at best for a while. Fortunately for him, assuming Hunter goes and Butler is delisted, our wing stocks are extremely thin.

Not saying this in reaction to the loss, his trajectory around the time he saved us against WC looked sky high, but has cratered since.

Have massivley under achieved this year.
Dunkley considering leaving for only an offer of around 650k. Surely we could match that deal or at least be within 50k a year and offer the same term. Not many players would even consider moving interstate for that difference.
Think we must have issues behind the scenes.

Media and fans catastrophising our year but are we any different to other teams following a GF loss? (With the exception of Geelong , we’re yet to see if this is their year.)

We lost in 2021, went from 5th to 8th, hardly catastrophic imo
2020 Geelong (the outlier) went from 4th to 3rd, 1st
2019 GWS went from 6th to 10th, 7th, 16th
2018 Collingwood went from 3rd to 4th, 8th, 17th, 4th
2017 Adelaide went from 1st to 12th, 11th, 18th, 15th, 14th
2016 Sydney went from 1st to 6th, 6th, 15th, 16th, 6th, 3rd

Etc.

Two of these changed coach (Collingwood for other factors).

I like West I think he has a bright future but he had a dreadful game as was rightfully dropped.

Scott had 23 and kicked 4 goals in the VFL 2 weeks ago and if their was going to be a player in over Vanders it was him

Dunkley is a terrific player but mid field bulls are very replacable. We need to prepare to protect Naughton, Darcy and hopefully JUH if he continues to progress as the money will come harder at those blokes in the next few years. If he goes, keep the coin and throw some of it at Callahan next year.

We all agree we need more and far better strategic coaches surrounding Bevo or we aren’t going anywhere!

I wish we had Kretiuk, Croft, Dent and Southern down back now.

Would make Opposition forwards collapse in fear today and would make us damn near unstoppable. Defenders that took no nonsense, weren't pushovers and defended as though their lives depended on it. Far cry from Gardner and seeing Cordy trail five metres behind his opponent, time and time and time again. About as intimidating as a wet lettuce leaf.

Why? if VDM wasn't named then Scott would've been and West still wouldn't have played and you'd still complain that he wasn't getting a game.

He played 14 games this year, McComb played 15 (some were sub), VDM played 10 and Scott played 14. He had the same opportunities they had. He wasn't the 1st dropped as he played the most consecutive games of the lot

If you want to look to stats there are some others where West has a clear advantage, particularly on the "defensively minded" point. For example, West averaged 1.3 I50 tackles per game, behind only Dunkley and Naughton. Garcia averaged 0.2, tied with Jordon Sweet. Generally, Garcia had 8 tackles in 5 games. West had 53 in 13 games. They bring different things to table.

He tackles more sure but he only averages 2 more pressure acts a game which isn't a whole lot. Again i'm not saying West is bad at all he had lost form and was deservedly dropped and was then behind Scott and Garcia to come back in

Well those for an eye for talent did and dropped him. Again West has the potential to be the best of the lot and was the pick of the bunch over the year but he faded out and was dropped and deserved to be. Again this has nothing to do with his overall ability or potential

Does he though? Great competitor (in a very different era), and has coached himself, but does he have an actual connection to the club today?

(I don't disagree with his downhill skiers emojis btw, but what is the "boys club" - is it amongst players, or between Bevo and some players, or like the rest of us, is Krusher an external observer with no genuine inside info?)
