Any Hunter movement seems dead in the water.

Although I’ll probably look dumb and there will be a trade in the coming hours.
If: there is any truth to the recent rumours about Hunters off field issues and us wanting him out.

Then: I'd expect any trade to be a last minute offer from a team looking to swoop with a bargain basement offer.

Given his generous contract status. We hold no good cards in this situation and any prospective team would know this.

You have proof?
Has been the way for years, they know how to get them ticked off by the AFL. A ten year old example here:

They also get integrated in the property and other dealings of past players, which sets them up. Look at the outcomes of these people after football.

I can see the allure for players on matters that have nothing to do with an annual salary from the club.

We will let him go essentially for free.

Rayner, Barrass and Bergman having a casual kick-to-kick on the grass between The Strand and the water in Willi.

Nothing to do with them being directly across the road from Chris Grant's place. They're all old friends, and regularly fly to Melbourne to catch up, usually for a gelato at The Ice Cream Shoppe up the road at Nelson Place.

Mmmmm, gelato. Does Sam Power like gelato?

Why are people so upset that Dunkley is acting like a mercenary? He's a professional footballer. What else should we expect?

Very few players become rusted on devotees of the club like Bob or Bont or Ellie have done. We should be eternally grateful for those few that do but that's not the norm.

In different circumstances players know the club will tell them their services are no longer required (Stringer, Hunter) or that they aren't good enough (Butler, Greene) or that we'll keep them but not for the price they want (Ward, Cordy). So why should we expect any more loyalty than the club is showing their playing footballers? It's a professional relationship.

It's the fans who have the emotional attachments.

Furthermore there's a chasm between our expectations of how Dunkley should behave and how fringe players like Cordy or Schache should behave. Nobody seems terribly concerned that Cordy has signed for a slightly better deal at St Kilda. Isn't that all Dunkley is trying to do? He just happens to be an A-grader while Cordy is a C-grader.

I'm no great fan of Dunkley the person (I admire Dunkley the footballer) but I think some of the commentary against him here is OTT.
No you are wrong. There are many players who became "rusted on devotees of the club." Hawkins, Royal,S.Wallis, Grant, Kennedy, West, Sutton, Whitten, Wood, Liberatore, Kerr, Beasley, Foster, Darcy, McKenzie. etc, etc, etc. I could sit here for an hour naming them. You have always have an emotional attachment to the first club you play for, very few players will say they don't. If there was no emotional attachment players wouldn't bother going to flag reunions, past player celebrations etc. Pretty easy for me to see why people would be upset with him leaving.

Come on mate, need to hold firm on these things. It will go down to the wire and if Brisbane want him they have to cough up, which they will at the last minute. Problem is they currently aren't even offering the abov

I live down Torquay and there has always been rumours, back from the Kostas days, stuff like they never need to pay for a car, discount land packages etc. Not sure if its true yet I personally don't believe players who have a short time to earn good money are supposedly taking so much less just to support the club.
You think the AFL integrity people would allow this? Selwood and Ablett both had deals with Cotton On back in the day but it was totally within the rules. There are far too many coppers involved in the AFL integrity division to get around these rules.
I am sure it has happened in the past where a player could get a 500k block of land at Jan Juc for 50k but not sure it would be easy to achieve now.

Regarding the block of land, Bowes I believe picked up a 50k block in Corio

Several partners and other family members were (allegedly) employed by Costa companies over a number of years. Even more opaque arrangements (allegedly) than the Judd VISY 'role' at Carlton. Also married partners were (allegedly) employed under maiden names. All above board though (allegedly).

Coppers aren't necessarily good investigators and when you look at their distribution in a range of ineffective anti-corruption bodies and who the effective staff there actually are (i.e. lawyers) you can probably conclude that a whole range of dodgy shit goes on both under and outside of their awareness.

Need a proper crackdown and none has so far happened.

It's not even controversial to say that the Cats have weaponised their sponsors and board so that they can exploit the salary cap in perpetuity. Everyone knows it, everyone knows that Carlton and Collingwood do it as well. It's why we need complete transparency.

Remember the findings of the AFL Integrity with regards to Taliagate?

Findings in summary - Was all a practical joke and they did not interview Bev

Enough said.

Judd's mum at Visy...
Seeing Bont, Bevo & Ellie get around in their Merc utes as "brand ambassadors" means we shouldn't be throwing too many stones here.
Our 2016 premiership weren't buying their own biltong either...

All the cats players and staff drive Ford Rangers. Very good information on land re-zoning? Rumours they take less as AFL players before retirement to then get very good money in local competition? payed by the Cotton-on group?

I am not sure who is sweating more

Pickering
Dunkley
Brisbane or
Sam Power

Sam is a pretty cool customer doubt it is him.
