Small forward isn’t going to move the needle enough for that level of investment…. BUT if you have no one else to pay, then by all means.

Saints should use that money to keep Battle, as he is in a more important position and they already have him in-house.
No idea what he's getting now but I reckon Weightman would be worth that much to us. We'd be more one-dimensional without him.

In fact I'd rather have Weightman than Stengle. No argument that Stengle is good and if I could have both at the Dogs I would. Stengle has Weightman covered in most stats but Weightman is 2 years younger, averages more goals per game already and will probably get better, whereas Stengle is probably already at his peak.

Glad we dodged that overpay!!!!

Amazing that Geelong convince yet another player to take unders for their official club contract (relative to what others are offering). Must really have an amazing culture down there.

Form 4 – Notice of Imminent Lapse of Building Permit ??

Come on NW! 😄

Conveniently it applied to interstate players, so young Zac qualified/qualifies:

Canberra Times, 1st October, 1981

VFL clubs will 'draft' top players

MELBOURNE: One of the VFL's oldest
clearance laws became obsolete from midnight
last night.

It is the Form-Four formula, which enabled clubs
to use two Form Fours each season to sign interstate stars.

From today drafting of interstate players will be
introduced in Victoria.

"It is a system which is a big deal in the United
States", VFL general manager Jack Hamilton said last night.

Next Tuesday morning representatives of the 12
VFL clubs will sit down to nominate their drafted
players for next season.

Under the scheme, the club finishing last on the
ladder has the right to choose the No 1 player in
Australia.

Once named by a VFL club, the player concerned
is tied to that club for the remainder of his career, irrespective of whether or not he decides to transfer interstate.

Melbourne, as the 1981 wooden spooner, will make the first selection on Tuesday, with Carlton taking 12th pick.

Hamilton said the player selected at the top of the list would carry the tag of No, 1 footballer in Australia for as long as he played.

"The scheme will help all clubs make selections
for key positions and will give the bottom clubs the chance to gain the best players available", he said.

Players from all States will be eligible for selection at Tuesday's meeting.

The drafting conferences, will be held annually.

Amazing place Geelong.

There's so much property development happening and farmland available, opportunities everywhere, but it's definitely the 'lifestyle' and the 'relaxed environment' though...yeah, that'll do...😉

Lobb in this game (and the relative ease that we recruited Jones) has shown that forward planning for key defence, while not useless, is not as critical as it is for other positions - key defenders can be late draft picks, mature agers, free agents, retooled other positions in a way that just doesn't happen with other positions. It makes is strange that we drafted Busslinger when we did (though we maybe saw him as a hybrid tall across bigs and smalls and with ability to kick as well) rather than a key defender, he takes out kick-ins in the VFL for a reason).

There's a logic to getting Barrass, but if we miss out on him, it's not the end of the world.

This assumes Lob continues his purple patch

Some people going way too early on the Lobb as a key defender train. He essentially played against a forward line with no key forward as Larkey was inside Jones' pocket the whole game. Wait until a game we play a decent team with multiple key forwards and midfielders who can deliver inside 50 before reserving judgement on him.

Agreed. He certainly has the tools to be a good key defender and generally competes quite well 1 on 1 when forward. His skills are quite underrated as well. He just has some days where he doesn't compete as well as he should and that's my main concern.

Half backs fall in the same category to me. Young mids like Daicos, Sheezel, Richards, then Griffen, N Brown in the old days were all pretty good off half back in their first year. Then we have old mids like Boyd or failed forwards like Dale who were/are decent half backs. I personally think it’s a waste of resources chasing a specialist half back. There’s always someone on the list who’s struggling that we can trial at half back.

Let’s pick up Max King and play him at FB.

Lobb might actually be a decent match up on the King types

Unfortunately (but fortunate on the other hand), there aren’t many King types that are pretty much useless if they haven’t marked it within 50

Yep not expecting that match up very often, but might be handy when it does. But if he's normal role is the 3rd tall looking for intercepts he's potentially a headache (for them).

Lobb was very good at defending the ball down the line on the weekend. It will be when teams get fast ball movement that he may struggle a bit.

That being said it was nice to have a tall intercepting opposition hail mary kicks other than Jones.
