Because he appears to be a guy that is immediately dropped back to the VFL with Hooker going back to take his place. And Schache takes Hookers place.
Not sure you can play all 3 of Hooker, Hurley and Harts in the backline though, unless Hurls is a permanent 3rd tall. I doubt it would be immediate though regardless, Hooker would likely stay forward until Schache found form in the VFL.

It's still polar opposites. You'd be better to ask 'is Schache forward/Hooker back a better combination than Hooker forward/Hartley back?' Stats aren't much use for answering that particular question though, as the contexts are too different to compare directly.

I'd say Hooker in defence > Hartley, by a fairly large margin. It'd be one or the other unless the opposition has two not particularly agile 200cm overhead-marking full forwards (I don't think any team currently has that?). They're also different types of players and we need Hooker's marking more than Hartley's spoiling, so on needs as well as on talent, Hooker is ahead.

I thought Schache re-signed last year for a couple of years after a bit of a will he/won't he thing about homesickness. Originally he went up there to play for his dad's club, I believe his dad played for Fitzroy so there was a father/son aspect (but he wasn't eligible under the father/son rule and didn't grow up in Queensland). I don't watch Brisbane much so couldn't say what Schache would add for us, or if that is more than what Hooker currently does as a deep forward marking target. I guess he's young and could take over from Hooker when he retires though. There's also the issue of being able to pay whatever Brisbane would be asking, which I imagine would be astronomically high for a young, talented, contracted former pick 2.

I haven't heard anything other than what Cooney alludes to in that article, that Jake is either lazy/not invested & not meeting team standards, no drugs/booze/gambling issues, & if any of those were an issue, would it be likely the coach would have just told him **** off? Unlikely I would have thought.

No one heard of Yarrans real issues until this year.

Let's just hope due diligence is enacted and a fair trade is reached. If saints and North pull out then you'd think something fishy is going on behind the scenes.

If they're proven right on this I'll happily eat my words, but until then it is just an unconfirmed report given there's been no word from either of GWS or Kelly and his management.

On being lazy and being young, the one advantage Essendon does have is that we have a group of young driven competitive go getters in ZMerrett, Hepp, Parish, Daniher, Walla, Fanta, Glesson and McGrath that may have the effect of pushing Stringer to work harder, often with young guys they react more to their peers than those above them.

Would you say Schache up forward is better than Hooker up forward? Hooker is happy playing up forward. And scored > 40 goals and is on the up on the forward line. The only position that may have underachieved on the forward line is the mid role (Laverde etc). Would rather get Stringer to rotate in midfield and going forward. Perhaps with Begley.

Hurley gets killed by the opposition talls. Reckon Hooker would have struggled back as well the way the ball was being delivered. Hartley negates one of the talls (eg Reid). Ambrose struggled against the tall mobile forward and wasn't doing as much as Hartley re possessions. Lever would be handy back there. Perhaps to replace Ambrose unless he is able to improve his form.

Francis for Stringer would be an absolute steal for our club.
Stringer despite his off field problems is only 23 yrs old. He is a Premiership player and all Australian. The kid can play.
Francis on the other hand has given us zero and after 2 years still can't run out a game.
Just do it Dorodo.

So why hasn tthat worked with Francis?

You really think Bulldogs dont have hard working players..

Lever would be handy, but when you have 2388 dollars to spend and a broken fridge, you don't spend 2000 of them on a new dishwasher.

I wonder what we'd get for Francis. Hypothetically speaking of course. Is he worth pick 6?
In three or four years he'd be somewhere between two firsts, if he breaks out and becomes as impactful as he could be, or if he doesn't get his shit together maybe a third rounder. So right now, with that sort of risk/reward scenario, probably a late first. He's no more or less likely to make it than a player at that point in the draft. Plus he's contracted and we don't want to trade him, so there'd be sweeteners to get him out of the club in the first place.

Has Francis really been lazy or has he just had a poor run with injuries because whenever I see him play he attacks the ball and chases hard, before calling Francis lazy I would want to see an injury free preseason.

I don't know the Dogs list as well as ours but I can't think of anyone on par with ZMerrett for work rate and I would never call a premiership size lazy because lazy sides simply don't win them.

On Stringer I just looked at his Instagram account and the thing which strikes my attention is that he seems to be a sensitive kind of guy wheres Bevo seems to be more your blokey type.

But I can't say that for certain as I don't know either of them.

Read something earlier on Sporting News Australia (the article was from 5 days ago, no idea how reliable their info is), that suggested we're cashed up and are a strong chance of securing both Kelly and Stringer. So with that said what do people think the trades would look like if both were to eventuate? For mine:

ESS out/GWS in: Pick 11 + 2018 1st
GWS out/ESS in: Kelly + 2017 2nd (or Kennedy)

ESS out/WBD in: Pick 28 + Leuenberger
WBD out/ESS in: Stringer

If we pulled that off, that'd be one hell of an off-season.

If Geelong want Stringer then we should make a play for Devon Smith and really throw a monkey wrench in Geelongs shows haha.
