With all this talk around Shiel and Gaff which is pretty exciting but is anyone else concerned about how much it might cost us?
Not only it would be 1.6m + in salary cap which might squeeze out younger out of contract players over the next 2 years (who are they?) but it will also hamper the development of our young midfielders.
Langford is there for the long run and wouldnt lose his spot to either.

Way i see it, Gaff and Shiel would replace Colyer and Guelfi (or maybe Bags).

Our current locked in 22 (all fit)
Francis Hooker Gleeson
Saad Hurley McKenna
Smith Heppell Merrett
..... Daniher Zaka
Fanta Stringer Tippa
TBC Myers Langford
McGrath Parish ... ...

3 spots available there.
Shiel and Gaff slide right in.
Last one - Redman, Laverde, Begley, Ridley, Colyer, Mutch, Baguley, Brown, Stewart, etc - duke it out.

1.3-1.6m on those two (front loaded perhaps) for 3-4 years isn't too bad. By the time they are approaching 30, our better kids will be getting to the age Shiel and Gaff are now and ready to command a contract of said size.
Plan would be to reduce a few contracts by then (Hooker, Hurley, TBC and Myers likely gone or in their twilight by then too).

I dont worry about too many players. Injuries are a fact of life so the more players, the more coverage. We thought we were going to have too many forwards this year and we ended up with none.

I can just imagine

‘Hey Kern, is the Chad available?’

‘No’

‘Ok, have a nice day’

Sub editor at the HUN: ‘Run it right now, full page spread!’

The novelty of having a player called Chad would probably never run out for me.

Kieran Collins let go by the dogs.

I was super keen during his u18 days. KPD probably isnt an area of need right now but would be worth a nibble if Harts moves on for more opportunity.

I'd find it extremely unusual that Shiel would have made a decision particularly if Hawthorn has also been circling.

The danger with those bastards is that they would get their act together quickly enough to continue to entice quality through the door.

Our list should be a significant selling point and we should be aiming to go deep into finals next year but that's all just optimism, really.

Hawthorn on the otherhand is already in week two of the finals this season. They've been linked to Tom Lynch and they must have plenty of salary cap room.

Their selling point to Lynch and Shiel would be look at what we're already doing and think about what that could look like with Lynch and Shiel.

From that point how much is it really going to take for the Hawks to be powerhouse again? They are clearly not going to go down the path of a conventional rebuild.

I suspect we'll know what Shiel wants to do when we know what Lynch wants to do.

Hawthorn a wizards cause they've been able to sell the rebuild, despite having one of (if not the oldest) list profiles in the league. They certainly have a talent towards attracting excellent players to top up with.

You just can't argue with their ability to sell........ and/or their ability to perform!! have to remember that in their winning streak to round out the year they were without one of their very best players who has been sitting in the locker room since about Rd17. Makes selling the dream to Lynch/Sheilds and who ever the hell they want real easy.

Oh well.... poor old Carltank will always be able to nab the Sam Kerridge's of the world and which ever GWS bum(s) are on eBay once their season is over.

Equalisation on show and at it's finest.

Michael Barlow anyone?? I've always liked him, still handy just ran over Stewy Dews cat it seems or stole a piece of chicken from his KFC bucket.
