They will 100% be able to match the bid. They'd be able to match a bid from pick from their current first round picks, which they will likely sell for more points.

Why wouldnt Bombers be interested in Papley to replace Fantasia and deal with sydney in the Daniher trade

Bombers get : Papley +#5 +SPP
Sydney get : Daniher
Port get : Fantasia

Harsh on Myers, dont think he was the worst user

But yeh Cutlers a big bodied wingman, line breaker, territory gainer with a booming kick (Something we lack). Not an amazing user

He played some really solid footy last year but was playing in the twos in the preseason intraclubs so was on the back burner from the get go

He has his deficiency's in defending (hopefully a 2nd club helps this) but he was behind Mcluggage, Robinson and Berry as a winger who all had quality years.

Hes worth grabbing for a pick in the 60s as he meets some assets that we dont have. His 2nd half of last year was super impressive numbers wise which i mentioned earlier in the thread

Gaining territory is so important in finals

He probably allows McGrath to spend the time onball for his development and best role and also allows Ham/Mutch to develop

I wouldn't be against it but I'd imagine it would be also Port passing #29 to Sydney or Essendon (depending on how much Sydney pay for Daniher)

Bris supporters have a love/hate thing for him, which sounds frustrating.

Not sure how he compares to some of the other names about though I like the premise of what Montagna had to say.

Incidentally, I was in Big W not 10 minutes ago, they're playing Shrek on all the tvs. End credits are rolling and I kid you not, there's a Cutler followed by a Myers. Weird.

The main issue is that Papley apparently wants to go to Carlton I think. Usually once a player has declared their interest for a particular club, the interest of other clubs drops off. Some may still monitor the situation, but often they find new targets and then don't have the picks or the salary available to capitalise should the first club not complete the trade.

Papley also doesn't really suit a need the same way a Wines or KPF would; sure we'd like a quality small forward, but using the currency from Fantasia / Daniher to bring in a quality inside midfielder or KPF is more important imo.

I think that small forwards are easier to find and develop then Big bodied midfielders, or is this just an Essendon thing?

But think about it, all the great small forwards apart from Cyril maybe wingard early days have come later drafts (davey boys, Betts, Charlie Cameron to Crows, Fantasia was pick 50 odd) etc etc

We have Irving mosquito developing that might be able to take fantasia role and at worst i think they could probably get Dan Butler on the cheap. Personally id like us to see what the Blues offer Jack Martin then slip under their feet for something a little better but miles cheaper than if we had Jack Martin nominate Essendon again.

I also think Essendon would rather have something in the bank to land a big fish next year.
