You can only carry one or two, but Essendon isn't carrying any,

Definitely 2 of the style of players named per team bear in mind that i don't know a lot about their defensive games, etc.

Basically one ball at all times (part of dufferent midfield rotations).

Whether we can fit the players into our side is another matter entirely.

You'd think in a year in which knowledge of recruits will be at an all time low it would be well worth a pick between 30 and 50 for an inside specialist we know can play.

Hearing from the same source who told me about Dylan Shiel to the Bombers, Jye Caldwell and Darren Minchington are a big chance to end up at Essendon during the trade period. Would be huge for your club 😎

Love the part where Minchington doesn’t play for 3 years and now apparently has suitors after him

Gown's best trick and the one that I would guess sees him on an AFL list is his overhead marking. He's good under the high ball - his hands are strong but he reads the ball very well too. His work in congestion is also pretty good and should not be discounted - he's not quick but there is not a lot wrong with his ground level play.

His general problem is his running ability at his size.

I'm trying to think of what a finished product would look like. Best I can come up with is something like Josh Bruce quality version of J. Riewoldt.

What Yoda_ is saying is fair enough. It's not immediately obvious how Gown's game would convert to AFL.

I think another issue which may work against him is list/team balance. When Dodoro says he rated Jones as a top 10/first round pick (can't remember exactly what he said), I'd take him closer to face value than not. That should give us an insight into the hierarchy in Dodoro's mind. Remember, he loved that Brisbane player we bid on 8 places after Jones and that we were otheriwse into the WA captain, not expecting Jones to last.

You'd think our future is probably based on 2 of Draper, Bryan and Crauford playing in a side with Jones. Daniher has 6 years left. Stewart does too.

I could see how that could result in Gown being squeezed off the list if there is a press for spots. I wouldn't mind seeing Gown play in defence. Something I can see him doing is taking a lot of contested grabs at half back.

Not that we need him to develop there but considering his lack of size and athleticism I’d say Gown’s best chance of make it as a backman. I hope I’m wrong (have been plenty of times) but just don’t see how he’d be capable of beating AFL level defenders.

Alwyn jr looks a 1st round talent but still need to see more, Jayden not far behind but is coming of an ACL.
So which one will play FF ? :p

Lordo reckons Melbourne should consider trading either Brayshaw or Oliver. Midfield is too ‘samey’.

Would we throw our hat in the ring? What would we pay?

Absolutely we should, but the issue is we don't have what Melbourne need. We can't pay a first round pick unless we trade someone else to get the necessary value.

Yes to both
Theyd want 2 1sts at least for Oliver, not worth it. We need to take 1 if not 2 players in the 1st round this year. We should be looking at Xavier O'halloran, would much rather pay a price for him and he's a certainty to leave the giants for opportunities. Good St bernards boy, so from the area. Is also a great leader and personality, which is exactly what we need, whose the type of player that has the ' follow me' attitude and we dont have too many of them at the club.

Our first this year I’d look at dealing and getting one of those in would mean losing on of our own that could net us more picks, I like O’Halloran and would come cheaper but still not sure he is the answer.

I don't understand this rationale.

For a start, Collingwood doesn't have any problems stacking a midfield with inside mids. Neither do the Dogs, generally.

If the logic is being consistently applied, not just as some knee-jerk drivel to grab headlines (and Lloyd is a boof head extraordinaire), wouldn't one of Parish, Merrett, Smith or McGrath be on the table too?

Pretty sure we arent allowed to trade this years 1st and need to use it, unless we get an exemption. Im not saying he's the answer but he'd definitely help and fits the mold of what we need in a midfielder. I also think there's something in having a couple of really talented youngsters in the team and the excitement and spark they give the older players when they are performing well. Look how Butters, Rozee and Duursma have almost singlehandedly given port a new lease on life after looking like a stale, no mans land list at the end of 2018. Selwood at geelong in 07, Cyril at the hawks, Stephenson at the pies '18, there's definitely something in having young talented players in a well performing team.

If we found a way to fit in one of those two I wonder if the supporters will finally stop complaining about our lack of big bodied mids haha would need to find something else to complain about
