Not at actually defending. May is 100% better and his brother is a better defender. Is McDonald a better 3rd up defender than Lever? Maybe in the intercepting game but it's marginal at best whereas Lever is a far better user so it's not even a contest.
I remember there was one year where up to half way theougj the year McDonald was the consensus AA CHB, however he tailled off through the year and that was ages ago (2015?)

They basically could only play him as a 3rd tall and when they got Lever, who is better, they shuffled him forward

The more I think about it the more I wouldn't commit Hooker forward or back until we see which KPP's are available for trade. If our best option is somone like Oscar McDonald (who is pretty solid defensively but can't kick for shit) we can settle him forward, or if it's Peter Wright we can settle him in defence.

Outside of our first pick we have 618 points available to match Brand and Eyre for, and I suspect we'll need most of them to match. So ideally we'd be able to find a player swap in that regard

All comes down to who says they want to go or not go.

That’s a new one

Could have had him if we gave up Hurley in 2016. Thats what the

Oscar McDonald is good defensively and you can't see anything in Plowman?

Plowman has lost more defensive one-on-ones than any other player in the AFL this year. He averages 1.4 one-on-one losses a game. Oscar McDonald loses 0.6 a game. He is literally the worst one-on-one defender in the AFL, and in terms of their careers, he's one of two players in the AFL in the top 30 for losses that has contested under 300 defensive one-on-ones, the other being Jasper Pittard, a player everyone acknowledges is ****ing useless.

Of the 20 players who've lost more defensive one-on-ones, only one has fewer games and that's Rory Thompson, who has competed in over 100 more. Go watch him get physically dominated by Bayey Fritsch in round 2, someone 5 cm shorter and 8 kg lighter than him, and tell me he's a good defender. I dare you

No way we would ever trade one of our star players to the Blosers. That's even more unbelievable than us letting Saad go to Richmond.
Mate Saad's OOC. If he wants to go to Richmond he'll get there.

Why is the Carlton board discussing getting Merrett? They've been talking about him for 40 pages now their ITK know something?
Apparently their chief ITK has said the club enquires about Merrett. That’s all.

Is he worth a first and Graham?
Id do that maybe try for CCJ given he is in the naughty books

But Graham and 18 would be nice

5 6 18 is a good hand especially if we turn 18 into points

The Merrett talk is not from a solid gold ITK poster but they are not an utter BS artist. Anything from Barrass70 is genuine good oil though.

Are Dons going to rebuild? Not trolling but do you think you have the core to be a top 4 side (yes carlton are shit etc etc)

But imagine trading Merrett to Carlton for 2 firsts, Saad to someone for a late first, Daniher for a top 5 pick. Over 2 years you would have 6 first round draft picks and turbo charge a rebuild with the core coming through together.

Otherwise IMHO you will be stuck in no mans land.

Nobody trusts Dodo to do a rebuild though. We'll just end up right back in the same position many years later.

Personally, I don't see how the Bomber faithful wouldn't storm The Hanger if either Merrett or Saad go. Even the happy-clapping FB nuffies would want blood.

I know a list manager that may be available

Yes, but Merrett's only 24, could still be very much a part of success in the future.

We've been sold turbo charging, list learnings and not far offs for the last 16 years.

You'll have to offer much more than that!!

True, but he would also keep you competitive and finishing around 10-12th.

If you cast off your valuable assets your maximizing your return in draft picks, while maximizing how shit you will be for the next 3-4 years gaining further top 3 picks, you could pull off a a mega rebuild.

Carlton had f all assets in 2015 when we bottomed out, yet SOS turned Tom Bell and pick 22 in Charlie Curnow, Lachie Henderson into Harry McKay, Yarran into Cuningham. Imagine the rebuild he could do with a club that has some tradeable assets.

Would have to be a decent return if we were to trade Merrett though.

When has Essendon done a full rebuild?

It is not all bad, you get really excited about draft night, glean some joy from watching the kids play.

Melbourne lost patience with theirs and although they have excellent top end talent they are very shallow, then gave up 3 firsts for May and Lever....

Jury still out on Carlton's if we do not make the 8 in 2021 and the 4 in 2022 then it has not been successful imo.

I am a believer that if done properly a full rebuild can work. There is a bit of luck too, pick 3 in 2017 P Dow but if we had pick 3 in 2016 we would likely have McLuggage.

I would be making the tough decision to do that it Essendon, what is the alternative? Being stuck in the middle?
