I mean. You can do both at once.

you dont want Sier for being unprofessional and this guy is up for a rape charge, yet you seem all in?

Degoey is a great player on the field don't get me wrong (100 times better than Sier) but he still faces serious charges and often turns up to pre-seasons over weight and out of shape.

We can apply to trade our 1st.
Our list profile is not so bad that you'd think the AFL wouldn't consider it

McGrath, Parish, Draper, Ridley, Redman, Merrett, Langford, Francis, Gleeson - a young core getting plenty of games and firmly in our 22.
Shiel, Stringer, Saad, Smith, Daniher, Stewart, Tippa - aren't so old/speculative that you'd wonder how many seasons they have left after this year

We don’t have enough credits in the bank to get away with it. It’s a rule that’s in place to stop stupid clubs from torpedoing themselves

You can see my previous reply to this.

The problem IMO with going the "rebuild" direction is if Dodo is still in charge as list manager, why won't we just end up back in the exact same spot? Still trying to turn flankers into midfielders, still recruiting 177cm players, keeping duds on our list for too long etc.

I don’t think they’d allow it after our year this year. If we hadve played finals/ won a final, it’d be a different conversation.

We have our De Goey in an unfit Stringer. Is he as good? Or could he be as good. Dunno. But fit he’s a jet and should kick 35+ a season. De Goey would cost 2 arms and 3 legs.

Correct. Dodoro has failed consistently as a list manager and there is very little chance that he will suddenly become good at it.

If Dodoro understood what our list needs were then he would have taken steps towards solving those problems. He just doesn't understand what it takes to create a strong list in the modern game. It would be negligent of Essendon to begin a rebuild with Dodoro at the helm.

tend to disagree

in terms of credits -
in 2014 we had 2x 1st rounders. One is a regular, the other was getting some continuity this year.
in 2015, same deal. Plus our 2nd rounder is getting games as well.
in 2016 we had 2x top 20 picks. Both look 200+ game guns.

Comparison - the Cats have taken Cockatoo, Clark, De Koning & Stephens in the same time.
Whilst the hawks have taken Burton, Lovell & Day

The picks don't necessarily mean success. Its how you manage the list with the trades.
If we were getting a proven top 5 pick entering his prime and fills a need, you'd have to consider it.

This is probably the most important step if we do decide to throw a grenade on the list management of the club. The head of the snake needs to be cut off and then it can form it's own identity.

And a box of Mars Bars.

I mean credit in the sense of being able to consistently bring good players in and remain in contention. They’re far more likely to trust Geelong not to do something that will completely stuff themselves than they are with us

I heard Geelong are interested in JD. I don't think they'll be able to offer an adequate deal though IF true.

GAJ , probably retiring , helps with capspace.

Anyone else hear/read about this?

Yeah it's in the Daniher thread.

Could be an interesting deal. Pick 11 of course would be on the table and perhaps someone like Constable.

Already facing questions over their handling of first-year captain Stephen Coniglio, the GWS Giants have delivered a stern message to wavering players.

‘If you don’t want to be here, then ship off.’

The statement arrived after 26-year-old defender Aidan Corr confirmed his decision to leave the club at the end of the season.

Corr, a restricted free agent, appears likely to return home to Victoria with his partner and sign a long-term contract with North Melbourne.

In a statement on Monday night, GWS football boss Jason McCartney said the club understood Corr’s reasons for leaving and “wish him well for the future”.

But behind the scenes a much more frank line was delivered in a meeting between McCartney and the players.

“Giants players have been delivered a direct message in the context of Corr leaving,” 7NEWS Melbourne’s Tom Browne reports.

“To paraphrase: if you don’t want to be here, then ship off.

“(It was) delivered very frankly yesterday in meeting with the playing group.”

Meanwhile 17 other clubs were last seen twirling moustaches of rubbing hands together in maniacal fashion

I wonder if McCartney will keep up the tough talk if Cameron and Kelly decide to “ship off” 🧐

1 Hopper & Taranto please

Rhys Mathieson is an interesting one, iirc he is contracted for 2021 and essentially depth right now in a decent midfield group. Played 40 odd games and certainly has some aggro about him like Sicily and can 'win' a free. Best mates with Parish... Perhaps they can reunite in the red and black?

Pretty sure the club deliberately avoided him at draft time so Parish would no longer be around him. Doubt that would have changed
