Nothing is forgotten, it justs shows we wont be trading out contracted players, unless we get a ridiculous offer, then maybe.
Yet you had no issue picking up Ryan Griffen who was contracted? It's hard to be all pure and noble, when you are guilty of exactly what you are railing against.

He approached us.

And end that pure and noble shit. Remember where you are.
His manager approached you. He approached other clubs as well. I think you are missing my point. I don't believe players should go whilst contracted. However, with the way the CBA is at the moment a club would be crazy not to deal early because of the power of the walk when contract finishes.
My thought is that players/managers have far too much power and clubs who the players leave have far too little. It needs to be evened up to really get a proper trade and FA synchronicity in the competition.
If it stays as it is now, it will alienate fans more and more.

Its also been widely reported at the time, AFL was putting pressure on us to bring in more experienced players because the side was getting hammered too often.

Afternoon all. Was just curious as to what you think Freo will pony up for McCarthy? The thread on the D&T board is no help with this.

Such an extraordinary situation. The whole thing sat uneasily with me, although I think GWS did absolutely nothing wrong.

I think they may give their 2nd round selection in 2017

Has anyone done a full projected/potential ins/outs for your entire offseason?

Outs (in my humble opinion)
Probable outs
Caleb Marchbank (1st rounder)
Jack Steele (late 1st - early 2nd)
Will Hoskin-Elliott (future 2nd rounder)
Cam McCarthy (future 2nd rounder)
James Stewart (3rd rounder or package)
Jeremy Finlayson (future 3rd rounder or package)
Jake Barrett (4th rounder or package)
Tom Downie (5th rounder)
Joel Patfull (retire)
Tim Mohr (delist)
Dawson Simpson (delist)

Possible outs
Adam Tomlinson (package for 1st rounder)
Matt Buntine (package for 1st rounder)
Jarrod Pickett (package for 1st rounder)

There is no smoke re the 3 at the end I just put them there knowing we have to reduce our cap and guys like WHE, Tomlinson and Buntine are on very good money as they were from the first group that re-signed. Pickett is there as apparently his attitude hasn't been completely professional.

No doubt some of these guys will stay, some will go and many will be on completely different trades than I have assumed but just my take.

Buntine will stay for sure...will take Patfulls spot with Marchank gone

Definitely a like for like replacement, you're probably on the money.

Maybe Himmelberg replaces Tommo??

We will need to shed some cash particularly if we want to give us any chance of retaining Rory.

I reckon out of all the ines I've listed Finlayson could be a surprise packet and thrive if given an opportunity. He is some athlete.

Cheers, appreciate the effort.

Any guess of total outa and total ins? And how many of the ins may be from academy picks, general draft pool and from trades? Understand if it's tough to estimate at the moment.

My view is we are over the proverbial barrel. We either pay his contract or trade. Not a winng hand. We will be a trading club for a while and hopefully they wont want to piss us off. Leon alluded to it being sorted next year for Cam's sake and hope it happens. Cant see how we delist having accepted illness even if we wanted to.
Really odd thing is a group of players visited him in Perth not just the club as you'd expect.
If they offer 2nd round we take it with glee if not probably take what we can get.
My opinion not necessarily popular on the board though.

Yeah probably can't give you that but as for Academy ins I'd say:
Setterfield
Perryman
Sproule
Macreadie

I think we'll leave the rest including Mutch for other clubs.

One of your posters just came on to our board to post this:
Haynes to you guys is gathering momentum from a few ITK.
Would I be correct in saying that this is a troll? We'd been talking a bit about how Haynes would be a perfect replacement for Dempster/Fisher, even though Haynes leaving GWS and going to the Saints would be incredibly unlikely.

Just extended this year, not gonna happen certainly.

You would be correct.

I forgot this, but as Bokonon points out, he signed a contract extension two months ago, from end of 2017 to end of 2019.

Thanks for clarifying.

Any news your end on Steele? Seems to be either he stays with you or joins us.

Surely Tomlinson will stay? Sure he had to bide his time, and he probably feels like he should've played a lot more games, but I can't help but feel he will stay. Given his form at seasons end, and the Giants willingness to settle him into the team and the apparent closeness of a premiership, I think he'd be crazy to walk now.

As for Finlayson, I don't know much about him. What are his strengths and weaknesses? You'd imagine at the very least one of him or Tomlinson will stay.

Haven't heard anything maybe someone has. Must be hard playing NEAFL and watching Hopper and Kennedy move above him in the pecking order after starting the year with high expectations. Ward V2 was was the word early

Thommo has gone on record that he's had a hard time winning his place and is more than happy in the back line. He may still have utility roles from time to time as he's still a good all round footballer.
The feeling amongst most supporters is that he'll stay, especially after those two huge finals.

As i said the only reason I could see us doing it would be to reduce salary cap pressure.

Finlayson from the limited game time i saw was an athletic, agile good marking tall with some x-factor. I think he can develop into a nice player, just needs to strengthen up a little.
