Damo just said they won’t even have any trades come through until tomorrow morning.

They’re saying the quiet bit out loud now, what a stage managed shambles.

Anyway I’ll stay listening… just in case
And then you aren't allowed to announce any trades before 3pm on the final day so 95% of the trades will be signed off in 4 and a half hours

Just gave to give a shout-out to Coondog Millionaire.
There may never have been a bloke less qualified to analyze trades and seemingly less willing to learn how things work, but the way he continues to front up rain, hail or shine and deliver us crisp 16 club megatrades that make zero sense for anybody involved while getting half of the players' clubs wrong is a thing of beauty.

Conspiracy theory:

AFL wants to keep itself in the news as long as possible at this time of year so clubs are encouraged to "go slow" on getting trades done.
I don’t think that’s a conspiracy theory, it’s common knowledge

The first part of your comment isn’t a conspiracy theory. It’s just good business.
However they don’t have the level of influence over clubs that you might think. They could encourage all they want, no reason clubs would have to comply.
You can accuse the AFL of a lot of things, but the delay in meaningful deals getting done is totally on the clubs.
Other than the impact that the ridiculous rules have on this. That is on the AFL

The delay in getting deals done is inherent to the process, it is not going to change.
It will often make sense to try to induce the other side to blink first and make concessions, look for leverage, sometimes they will hold off to get a gauge for the competitive environment and 'fair value' in that period etc.
Doesn't mean they are not doing their job, it's part and parcel of the negotiation process, although the league for sure doesn't mind having a couple of 'nailbiters' to get eyes glued to screens at the death in primetime.
Bit of Parkinson's Law about it, too, I guess.

The last day of trade "period" feels like every uni assignment, everyone is drinking having fun until the last few nights of the project where they frantically pull all-nighters as a juxtaposition of sheer panic.

Lets get this embarrassing train-wreck over with.

Just made the mistake of tuning into this for the first time only to hear them take a call from some random who proceeds to rattle off where each of the 18 teams will finish next year.

It was like listening to someone reading a bigfooty post.

That’ll do it for me.

Hahaha someone had it on at work and I could over hear that. In the words of Dwayne Russell, it was crazy stuff
