50 games / 111 goals is very impressive.
I’d take that and run right now.

So mucking aroundNo match sim. The players are 'de-loading after a brutal week'.
I agree with you and Tas about JZ. But to pick up on your point, that perception was odd even at the time:Wasn't JZ actually top 3 in 2021? I think people's perception of him down back was tainted badly by the first 3 rounds of last year.
The last few years of taken 111 games and 50 goals50 games / 111 goals is very impressive.
I’m no fan of him playing defence on an opponent, best I could think is maybe a loose man in defence. I’d relax on CZ it sounded more like it was a impact blast in the middle. Hoping sheezel/comben/Curtis and even Stephenson provide forward spark for the short bursts CZ spends there.
Let’s not forget CZs starts in the last two seasons, it could be a good circuit breaker if things aren’t working out up fwd
LDU?No JHF or TT, we lack athletic difference-makers in the midfield again. Wardlaw is not ready either so our lack of speed will hurt.
LDU?
Or a snickersAre you serious? Reckon you need a coffee ️
I agree with you and Tas about JZ. But to pick up on your point, that perception was odd even at the time:
Round 1 against Hawthorn, the criticism of JZ came from the second half when he had to stand Mitch Lewis after McKay got injured (concussed I think). Lewis did him badly in a couple of 1 on 1 high ball marking contests...as someone 10 cms taller should! IIRC Ziebell stood on the back of Lewis' foot in one of them making JZ stumble - that happens, can't really blame him for that. And he's never ever been a key position defender, so criticising him for not being one was a bit odd.
Round 2 JZ got 29 touches and a brownlow vote against the East Perth no. 4 team. Nuff said.
Round 3 we got pumped by Brisbane and everything smelled. Especially the forward line and midfield whose structure fell apart, meaning that every rebound 50 was immediately followed by an inside 50 for them. He had a team high 8 rebound 50's, but to where? There was no one to kick to. Everything smelled.
Round 4 JZ was sent forward to try and deal with the forward line disaster - he kicks 5, is BOG and Noble decides that's where he's needed, even when it becomes awfully clear he's really needed down back again and even though he starts getting frostbite.
In hindsight, the move of JZ forward was a disaster. Looks like we'll find out whether returning him to defence will be a winner - there's still a question over whether he is cooked, or just looked cooked last year when playing in Siberia - but yeah I think people's perceptions weren't entirely on the money in those first 3 rounds.
People's expectations for this year seem to be unreasonably high simply based on the fact that we have a 4x premiership coach. I'm positive he'll take us to a GF, but it'll take time. I just don't want to see players in positions where they look lost or out of their depth and the team suffers as a result, that's really all there is to thisYeah or next someone will start comparing Clarko to Noble
Fair point. I think this is where sheils/howe hold value not so much super explosive but they know how to run at the top level. No JHF or TT, we lack athletic difference-makers in the midfield again. Wardlaw is not ready either so our lack of speed will hurt.
As long as that not calmness doesn't devolve into rage and fury at the first thrashing we receive this yearPretty happy to be not calm
There will be games that we will cop a touch up.As long as that not calmness doesn't devolve into rage and fury at the first thrashing we receive this year
Stevo kicked 40+ goals in his first year and won the RS, so he knows how to find the sticks. I don't know why we don't just stick him in the forward line when we are screaming out for goals. We have enough other (better?) options for wingers and link up players, Stevo has been unable to nail down and perform in that spot himself.Fair point. LDU has explosiveness , hopefully Phillips /cunners/Powell (who should be on ball) can grab the grunt work to unlock LDU further and to a lesser extent Jy (so he’s not having to do it all)
Stevo has the tools to really help in this and hopefully Clarko can get him running all day providing link ups and distribution.
By no way are we the finished article but we can easily be better than the past couple of seasons
Phillips will also add a defensive edge that no one (except maybe Greenwood) currently does. The second time we played the Dogs in '21 I sat behind the goals and it was very obvious that even in his first year his defensive instincts were better than Cunners, Jy and LDU.Fair point. Yep, I guess I was looking at his running abilities but yeah as a fwd he also has potential. We just need some games where we are the touchers
Thought you’d like that
LDU? Stephenson? Goater? Philips has got toe.No JHF or TT, we lack athletic difference-makers in the midfield again. Wardlaw is not ready either so our lack of speed will hurt.
