Session all wrapped up. Very light and minimal. Forwards worked on goal kicking/set shots.

Defence just doing light training. Working on spoils and intercepting.

Mids did non contact match sim and also stoppage work on the wing and in the guts!

It’s looking like Tarryn Thomas will play half back as well as Ziebs. Both training with the defence.

Drury, TT, Ziebs, Dawson, LMac, Bon, Perez. Hally, Goater, Arch,Berg all training in defence!

Unfortunately I feel Ziebell will be spending the final 3/4 of his last season in the VFL, except for perhaps a farewell match in the last round.
We can’t be going too well if he’s consistently getting a game on our half back line.

Agree. TT, LMac, Perez, Archer, Goater and Hall all ahead of JZ.

Goalkicking yes, field passing no. By the age of 17 they have kicked the football 10 million times. They kick the ball 100’s of times a week during training and games. Yet, doesn’t improve a great deal. The best kicks in the league were the best kicks when they were juniors.
Disagree. Players can put 5-10 meters on their kicks after the age of 17. They can also improve their consistency immensely. You can also improve your non-preferred. Polac used his right foot a few times in his last few games with us....

A s**t kick will always be a s**t kick. If you can’t kick at 18, you can’t kick at 22
A bloke I went to school with got drafted. Good athlete, strong overhead, shit kick… think Jon Hay.
He held the ball with both hands on top right next to the laces and had a weird ball drop all the way from primary school to getting drafted. He was delisted after 1 year. He came back and trained with us and his kicking style was completely unchanged.
I think that minor flaws can definitely be ironed out but long term habits are hard to change.

Some years before this another bloke from the club got drafted. At training he was given some tips on improving his kicking but apparently he didn’t take kindly to being told how to improve his kicking technique. His attitude didn’t go down well with the club and he didn’t last long there.
The bloke trying to improve his kicking was Bernie Quinlan.

He didn't want Powell at 13 and pushed hard for Brayden Cook.

I don't think this is that wild of a view. I loved Brayden Cook in that draft and can totally see why someone might want him over Powell.

It's more the insinuation that this led to Noble putting Powell in the doghouse that doesn't sit well if true.

Who the **** are we playing on the wing then? Tucker and Mrs Clarkson?

I get the point your trying to make but Eugene Arocca is the CEO of Motor Sport Australia so I'm not sure your argument stacks up.
Eugene Arocca wasn’t the coach of an AFL side.

I reckon someone being able to change their technique varies from person to person. It’s like a spectrum, some won’t be able to do it at all, some will an improve a bit and then there’s the rarities that can completely change it. Bit like a golfers swing I spose.

Is why the Irish players are such good kicks. They have the raw material but can be retooled to kick a footy properly

While it varies from person to person, the same stuff was said about fast bowlers, and blokes like Ian Pont and Steffan Jones have blown that broscience out of the water.

It takes a lot of work but shouldn't be beyond professional athletes.

The hard thing is when it’s fully ingrained into someone from years and years, under pressure a lot of people revert back to their old technique.

It takes constant practice to get the muscle memory there to overcome it, and with the demands of being a professional athlete in a team environment, the day to day training doesn’t allow them the hours they need. They can always do it in their personal time, but a lot don’t.

Reasonably short session today but having the boys spread out around the ground after training and invite the kids to have a kick with them was just fantastic. My boys had a kick and a chat with Bailey Scott and Ben 10 and are absolutely stoked with their morning's work.

Training wise, we watched from the forward pocket. Whilst all look smooth, I reckon the pick of the forwards today was Paul Curtis.

I reckon Sleevo looks primed for a big year too. Great to see.

It was an awesome atmosphere down there today.

Is Stevo getting skinnier each year? My goodness looking at training photos he looks like a famished Ethiopian ready to run a marathon, but with white skin.

Serious weights need to be lifted, needs to work on building strength big time.

Agree.
I'd suggest Steve Smith's noticeable change in batting technique / stance in the second half of 2022 proves it is possible with enough dedication.

Thanks for the info.

It was said after the draft, that on draft night, we were trying to trade for a pick in the 20's. Cook was one of the players mentioned we were after. Matthew Allison was another.

Sometimes the trade you don't make are the best ones. Imagine trading a F2 and missing out on Goater.

Find it hard to believe that they didn't get along (if that is true) because Noble had it in for Powell due to wanting to draft someone else in circumstances where in 2021 for the first 13 weeks TP was getting as much exposure as an AFL midfielder that a first year could hope for before he succumbed to OP and in 2022 a more cautious approach was undertaken.

Much more believable that the bridge was burned (if it was burned) because of Noble's style which pissed everyone off.
