At a minimum Everton should be allowed to sell Branthwaite in this window in a way that will maximise the price they get for him.

Having to sell by the end of June will only lessen the price they get for him and benefit the clubs that already get the biggest benefit from FFP/PSR.

It's anti competitive.
Only solution is moving the FFP period to march in my opinion.

Depends what you want FFP to be about.

If you want it to protect clubs from owners, let them spend what they like as long as the owner covers the cost. Don't allow clubs to run up debt, don't allow leveraged purchases. Spending money is the best way to make money in football. You get more TV money, you get bigger and better sponsorships, you qualify for lucrative tournaments. It's also risky, which is why clubs need protection.

I genuinely don't believe FFP has anything to do with protecting clubs from themselves though. How does Everton selling Branthwaite a month earlier for less money help Everton?

If FFP is about competitiveness, then make it about competitiveness. Don't let Man United, or Liverpool or Arsenal or Man City spend more than their rivals. Give everyone a spending limit and see who does best.

Split champions league revenue so the clubs already at the top don't get a huge financial boost which under current rules allows them to push ahead of the chasing pack even further.

Go back to revenue sharing model that Arsenal, Spurs, Man United and Liverpool broke up all those years ago. We'll earn £50m a year than some of our rivals, which we can spend getting better and they're forced to look on.

What we have now is exactly what the richest clubs have wanted for decades.

If these mega rich clubs just pay what the selling club asks for in first place then problem solved.

No club is going to pay more for a player than they think they can buy him for.

Current rules though give mega rich clubs a helping hand.

I just mean so that it's not partway through a transfer window.

Becoming a sensible club in the transfer market means that instead of getting openly mocked for making a £70 million opening bid, we are now getting openly mocked for making a £35 million opening bid because it isn’t a £70 million opening bid. :D

If it's true that you bid £35m you deserve to be mocked.

Throwing out insulting bids isn't becoming a sensible club in the market.

But it may well just be newspaper gossip and not true at all.

If it is, there will definitely be a higher bid. £35 million bid says not to expect a £60+ million bid next. They will increase the bid/s and hopefully Everton accepts something below what the papers have been saying.

£35mil is enough for his right boot, but why wouldn’t United want to the whole player?

Are they stupid?

We will do the big club campaigner thing and offer £40 million with our next bid just for that.
